You'll never in your life see it in a Western source, but since May, 2023, Russia has tactically been very, very operationally efficient. They bypass strongooints and flank them, probe for weak points, use terrain features expertly, and quickly exploit break throughs. Of course they take losses, their attacks sometimes repelled, make mistakes....but overall when you look at the number of battles and the scope of a 600 mile front, they have taught a master class in Modern Warfare on land.

This past May, Putin replaced his longest serving cabinet minister, Defense Minister Shoigu, with Andrei Belousov, a 65-year-old economics expert who has never dealt with the military or other law enforcement agencies whose job is to eliminate corruption so the troops get what was ordered for them and the war stays affordable. Shoigu was made the equivalent of the US National Security Advisor to the President because he is fiercely loyal to Putin. It's been two months and I expect some significant improvement in Russian performance of their SMO in the Ukraine.

The Russian Federation has gained about 180 000 km2 of new land including infrastructure, real estate and mineral resources, plus about 4 000 000 new population, i.e. consumers, taxpayers, business activities and human potential in general. Only this new income probably already outweighs the costs of maintaining several hundred thousand soldiers plus weapons/equipment in special military operation activities. The Russian Federation will take as much of ukruine as it wants, when it wants, and it can do so for decades at very low cost. and if it needs more military personel, perhaps the chairman kim jong un can help, he has 4 million troops at his immediate disposal and many more on call.

Russians are advancing as fast as they are told from the very top. Which is very slow and with limited resources , that is why they still use old soviet equipment. You gotta save your weapons and military in general, if a serious war starts with NATO boots on the ground in Ukraine
