Both nations have faced mounting pressure from the U.S. Russia faced sanctions, while India received repeated warnings against buying Russian oil. Of course, it had no impact on either nation.

Yes, this is the key element (i.e. finding solutions to End the ongoing violent invasion War of Ukraine) sadly missed and not discussed in this specific interview. I personally feel that India is missing a big opportunity to playing a much more significant independent role in global diplomatic leadership in pushing to act as mediator to in fact help End this invasion war madness of Ukraine which is creating the chaos at the core and greater insecurity. Perhaps such a calculated plausible strategic independent game-changing diplomatic leadership role by Modi administration, et al, is one main factor why Kre'mlin gov has urgently injected it's invested asymmetrical influence of Indian foreign policy making agenda... That said, the USG has honestly never had such hypothetical so-called 'Hegemonic' influence over Indian gov policy making as this guest analyst Gilbert speaking suspiciously seems to declare. One thing I've learnt from this war is, Russia is very adaptive. Some people say Russia doesn't stand a chance in a hot water with NATO, but Russia is unpredictable. Its difficult to say how they will adopt in such a situation.

Consider Germany, Japan, and South Korea-they've established such extensive relations with the US that the US has built numerous bases in their countries.
