What? They call it a capability?? I hope not. This is a black eye on the scientific and political exchange of data before carrying out such a thoughtless act. When it comes to thinking things through Putin seems to be influenced by Trump. The world doesn’t need this cavalier approach to human life. I wish Putin would be replaced soon. Maybe we could both of them in an orbiting retirement home and teach them what it is to be the bowling pin. Hhhh. I must see how RT spins this.

The USA has been sleeping while Putin has been softening the target with his advance contingent of fascist dictatorship wannabe’s from the biggest fool (Trump) to the biggest false ego (Flynn) and all the rest of the false crusaders for Christ. I don’t believe for a second that all the frauds in the evangelical churches really believe they will be let off when it comes to God’s (Eastern Orthodox) rain of destruction on the decadent western criminals and loan sharks. You better believe it when you say the world is coming after the USA. Part of that world still trying to prepare the country for destruction is the group callling itself patriots for the moment. Only if it doesn't have a stable orbit. That's not really how it works. If a satellite is in orbit, it is in orbit permanently until it gets propelled to the point where it loses the minimum apoapsis or periapsis of the orbit, or in this case the debris from it being detonated. Only the debris that managed to get under minimum apoapsis or periapsis after the detonation will eventually lose orbit and burn up, not all.

Not for several years, at least. In the meantime, it will continue to pose a threat to human spaceflight activities in low earth orbit. It's not like the US has never done tests like this before, but none that so directly put at risk the lives of all International Astronauts, Russian Cosmonauts, and Chinese Taikonauts in space. Personally, I think there should be some form of treaty forbidding the use of anti-satellite weapons; every explosion in orbit takes us one step closer to Kissler Syndrome, which is an outcome that would be disastrous for all modern nations, and the human species as a whole.

@@lostpockets2227 I think it's in tandem with China's Shock Hypersonic Missile technology and the superiority they would gain on the US if they had the capability before we did. Think about it: Russia could knock out our satellites and stop a conventional response, the only nuclear response would be to pre-determined coordinates. Any adjustments would require the GPS satellites we wouldn't have. Nor would we have the ability to see what's happening in country to verify launches or other activity. Remember; the only reason the SR-71 program could be discontinued was because satellites replaced them as the 'eye in the sky'. We would be completely blind. No way to verify a missile attack, especially a hypersonic attack, until it was potentially too late to respond effectively and retaliate. Think about that: The "Assured Mutual Destruction" aspect to the use of nuclear weapons would be removed if Russia and China commanded control in joint of just those 2 technologies.
