Since when was that acceptable. If he ain’t cutting it move on. Only thing that matters is winning. As a Steelers fan this move breathed life back in our organization instead of forcing & praying a QB becomes a star.

    50-year citizen of Steeler Nation here. Pickett ain't it and I never thought he was going to be it. Mason did a great job coming back from his "time out" after the helmet bashing incident, but is he a long-term solution? Don't know. This deal...financially, it was hard to pass up. Russell Wilson isn't a scrub. It's hard for me to see him as a long-term solution, but if we can leverage his desire to prove himself, I'm all for it. This is only the second time in my life the Steelers have gone to free agency to get a starting QB (Mike Tomczak). I have higher hopes for immediate success with Russell compared to Mike. Basically, the Steelers needed to make this move and I'm glad they made it, especially given how little it cost them.

    Says a lot about Wilson also. He could have teams bidding over him and maybe made an extra 5 to 10 million which still would’ve still been a deal for a team. But he’s willing to take the minimum to help the team. 👍

  • @Nate-zm6bd

    @Nate-zm6bd

    I can see why you would think that but thats not correct. Only way russ made an extra 5 to 10 million is if someone paid him 5 to 10 million over the 40 million hes already guaranteed. He took a team friendly 1.2 million dollar deal w/ the steelers and stuck the bronocs w/ the other 38.8 million. Steelers pay him 30 million, than broncos only play 10 million and Russ still sees 40 million. There was no bidding war to be had. Russ said from the beginning he was interested in going to the steelers.

    @@Nate-zm6bd I don't disagree that for the vet minimum, he is a good pick up for the Steelers. He should probably win the starting job over Pickett. He should be better than a backup. But it is not like he had teams offering win 20 or 25 mil and he took less to be a good guy. He is only worth the minimum. But hey. I am a Chargers fan. So stick it to the Broncos.

  • @matthewdigiacomo2580
    @matthewdigiacomo25805 ай бұрын

    I am not sure how this turns out, but the big question for me is 2025 and beyond. If Russ comes in humble and works hard trying to get paid one last time, it could be a match made in heaven. But then what? If Russ plays well, that probably means the Steelers are picking near the bottom of the 2025 draft so a top QB seems unlikely there. I also don't think the Steelers are going to give Russ the huge contract he would probably want. So who is the QB1 in 2025? Pickett has mediocre backup potential at best because his arm is crap (and don't let the deep ball fool you like it has fooled my brothers. There is a reason the Steelers don't let him throw the ball in the red zone and that is because he can't put enough zip on the ball to beat defenders when passing lanes are so tight. As a Dolphins fan, I have seen the same tight-window problem, although to a slightly lesser degree, with Tua). Rudolph has much better measurables, but I don't think he is a QB1 either ... more likely a top QB2, in my opinion. So, are the Steelers done here? Could they still make a move for Fields to let him sit behind Russ for a season and really learn something from a HOF QB (as well as a coaching staff willing to develop him) with the hope he can be the QB1 they are looking for? The Bears might take a package of Pickett and a second rounder just to get rid of the contract before drafting a new QB wit hthe No. 1 pic. Then the Steelers could go into 2025 with Fields and Rudolph as the QBs. Not sure that works out either, but I wouldn't hate the idea if I was a Steelers fan mainly because it might be the best scenario for them grabbing a QB1 before the 2025 season.

    Happy for Russ - great fit. Tomlin has experience handling divas if Russ is in fact one, Smith is tough and wants to redeem himself so will pull the best of Russ out, and this is a franchise that treats players like a family, which is the kind of public persona Russ has, and Kenny gets the mentor he needs to have a chance at a long career.

    He's not moving the needle much, but not hurting anything, either. When a QB signs a one-year deal, it's essentially a training camp tryout, and maybe he starts, maybe he doesn't. It puts Pickett on notice, and yeah...the Steelers will still be utterly medicore. Which is still a round one exit.
