    I'm a reformed Russell stan. I used to defend everything he did. I followed him from OKC to Houston, was super happy when they beat the Thunder to move on to the second round for the first time in like 5 years. Then the Wizards happened, now hes on the Lakers and I really see the problem was always him. He has great qualities. Possibly the greatest offensive rebounder in history for his size. However, his decision making, those costly turnovers...he actually is a net negative and players have to drastically change their games around him.

  • 2 жыл бұрын

    He uses his immense talent and athleticism to buff his own stats to the detriment of the team. Oddly enough, I've come to believe that he doesn't do it because he is a selfish player. I used to, but I don't anymore; I actually think he believes that what he's doing is what's best for the team. Westbrook has the potential to be one of the all time greats. I think he still has enough good years in him to turn this ship around. Cheers

Not only tht but KD covered up a lot of his BS for a long time until he couldn’t anymore and left. The notion tht he never had help when KD left is honestly baffling. The problem with Russ, is that his strengths rarely beats his weakness now. He used have a very decent mid range jumper and was consistent at the FT line. But he has lost that since his MVP season. Russ wasn't very skilled to begin with, and he won't be able get away with it anymore as his athleticism declines. He doesn't really have a go to move and a defined style of play, which is why he has high turnover rate and low efficiency.

He usually had playmaking to offset his turnovers, but honestly he really hasn't seemed to have that since his insane Rockets streak where he was really good for a few weeks. I think the Antione Walker is the perfect comp because the man (Walker) is literally quoted in saying that he shoots so many 3s "Because there aren't and 4s", while not having the effciency whatsoever to back it up, and that is Westbrook to a T.

    When you put together a roster really really well…players multiply each other’s strengths and cover up each others’ weaknesses. If you look at Golden State…Draymond’s inability to shoot consistently well is covered up because they have incredible shooting around him, and he’s allowed to focus on his strengths of playmaking and defense. The Lakers have too many players who do the same thing well but not enough of something different. Lebron makes everyone around him better…except Russ because he is a similar player as far as skill set but way less effective than Lebron. You’d be better off with a role player who can shoot and makes good decisions than Russ. I don’t know what the logic was to bring Russ, AND Rondo who again…3 players who do the same thing

  • @SLICENSLASH

    @SLICENSLASH

    Yup, CJ McCollum would fit perfectly on this Lakers roster eventhough he's an inferior player to Russ in terms of carrying a team. I look at the reasoning for getting Russ was that he works like an "innings-eater". He doesn't miss games, always plays aggressively, piles up assists & rebounds, and raises the tempo of your team. He's actually done all those things pretty well, the problem is they didn't account for his presence on the floor lowering the IQ of the team, or all the constant turnovers. The challenge is can Russ elevate his brand of Basketball to be a part of championship calibre team, rather than lower the team down to his level of middle of the road Basketball he's played since leading a team on his own?

    I love Russ but I think when you compare him to a guy like CP3 it is the perfect example in the talent vs impact argument. Russ is like 6'4, stupidly athletic and despite being injured by Patrick Beverley that 1 time has essentially never missed any significant time. He may also have some of the most ridiculous career numbers at face value for any guard ever, but he simply achieves those numbers in a way that does not cause winning basketball. CP3 is smaller, nowhere near as athletic and gets injured way more but if you look at his career resume he gets steady numbers that don't jump out at you but he always makes his team better. Sometimes if you are putting up alot of numbers you are just taking numbers away from your guys that they would have put up anyway so you are not actually adding any "impact" to the game you are just hoovering up the numbers. Whereas a guy like CP3 won't try to force anything he will just play solid D, get everyone involved and make the right chess move to get wins. Mind over matter.

    In economics, there is a thing called Opportunity Cost, which is defined as: the loss of potential gain from other alternatives when one alternative is chosen. So, Westbrook scores 20 points a night, but if he played actual point guard he might have 10 points a night, but facilitate 25 points for his teammates. In other words his 10 extra points are actually costing the Lakers many more points, and therefore costing them the game.

    @@phillipmccleveland8926 I agree he’s a superstar. And he’s had an awesome career of averaging triple doubles and being ringless LMAO. We’re gonna look back and be like “Wow remember that guy who averaged a triple double but couldn’t do shit in the playoffs”💀💀💀💀

    I idolized Russ til I saw him play in my rec league and damn near lose to a team that didn’t even beat us that bad. He was out there stealing rebounds, smoking layups, and getting his cookies took and there was a Chinese kid in a goku shirt playing in that same game

    Saw you through the whole video, subscribed, and turn on notifications to ALL. Honestly it's a good take, because he does bring positives. Only, that his what were you thinking with that one passes, and his strong drives in the lane ending in just a throw it up there and see what happens; going 1 for 7 in the process plays, and the volume of clanking 3's taken make it very difficult to overcome for the team.
