Many suggest Joseph Smith could not have written the BoM. Is that true? Could a 24 year old man author the Book of Mormon? - Christopher Paolini wrote the +500 page book “Eragon” by himself at age 15. - Mary Shelley published the complex classic novel “Frankenstein” at age 20, - Godon Korman had published 11 books by age 23 - Twins Jyoti and Suresh were 11 years old when they finished, “Conspiracy of Calaspia.” - F Scott Fitzgerald published "This side of Paradise" at age 23 - Mozart wrote his first symphony at age 8, - Zuckerberg launched fb at age 20, - Steve Jobs launched Apple II at 22, - Brian Wilson created Pet Sounds at age 23 (considered #2 album of all time), - Carl Gauss produced some of the greatest mathematical works on earth by aged 20, - Pascal developed a calculator nearly 200 years before Joseph at age 19, - Mark who authored the Biblical Book of Mark was as young as age 10, - Percy Shelly authored multiple advanced novels by the age of 24, - Jane Austen authored "Sense and Sensibility at age 19 - etc, etc, etc. (this could be a very long list) Keep in mind, unlike others, Joseph also had assistance from an educated teacher & scribe and much of the book is rehashed or connected to the Bible and other books of his time. Additionally, his mother said he was talking about similar stories for many years before it was created. And, even faithful LDS scholars are now claiming it’s a product of the 19th century. Undoubtedly, the BoM is a great achievement, but could it have been authored by a 24 year-old who had the aid of a scribe? It's fascinating how apologists keep portraying Joseph Smith as a stupid, ignorant idiot when in reality he was nothing of the sort. Smith was known to have a keen intellect, wild imagination, and strong ambition. He accessed many books, frequently read, and often talked to the educated of the community long before the BoM. kzread.info/dash/bejne/oGt7o8ypoJCbedI.htmlsi=RdLhJEWwqlaQZGFV

Because there’s still people in there that don’t know it’s on fire.” All "critics" of the church believe Joseph Smith was a clever, intelligent guy although he did some incredibly dumb things (for example, when he claimed to have translated Abraham's scrolls, was caught changing revelations and lying, etc). Guys like David Koresch, Marshall Applewhite, Jim Jones, etc, etc all had great minds and were very charismatic. All their followers also believed they were chosen of God. All these deceptive leaders knew how to manipulate emotions, give the appearance of divinity, and fool the most educated. But, please, no hard feelings. I fully understand where you're coming from. I was once like you too and felt the same way.

I’m not arguing anything. You and this old man use the word “keys” in precisely the opposite way the scriptures and Joseph Smith used the term. There are over 200 denominations that claim Joseph as their founder. The salt lake based lds church is not special in any way. They are simply the richest and most popular. They are simply another faction, founded Brigham young. They don’t own the Book of Mormon. They don’t even use Joseph’s punctuation or his corrections to the Book of Mormon after its initial publication. They are a dead and hollow shell, unable to even really define the “keys” they claim to hold. All they know is they have them. The leaders of the lds church will damn anyone who chooses to follow them. As the scriptures put it, they hedge up the way. And boy do they hedge

The Book of Mormon clearly states that these ancient people (nephites, lamanites, ect) had access to horses (and other domesticated animals), iron/steel and wheat. The native Americans at the time of Colombus, and all American cultures found through archaeology, have every indicator that they never had access to these things. Once a culture is exposed to things like animal domestication or steel or wheat, they are extremely unlikely to lose any sign of it ever existing. This is why people sometimes say the evidence for the Book of Mormon is lacking. Of course, if you assume scripture is evidence for the truth of scripture, you can do that.

The quote you’re referencing: “I told the brethren that the Book of Mormon was the most correct of any book on earth, and the keystone of our religion, and a man would get nearer to God by abiding by its precepts, than by any other book.” This quote is true because of what the Book of Mormon teaches, not for lack of grammatical errors. The original manuscripts of the BoM hardly used any punctuation. Overwhelmingly, the Book of Mormon proves again and again through its teaching that Jesus Christ is not only the God of Israel, but the God of the whole Earth. It proclaims that Jesus gave His life for each one of us, and that He has risen again. It teaches that we are saved “only in and through the Atonement of the Lord Jesus Christ.” I think you’ve judged the things of God before you’ve given them an honest look.

@@Jacob0506 Knowing and trusting God's Word qualifies me to be a fruit inspector. Joseph Smith should have read Galatians 1:6-9. Before trusting Any spirit. The very first Lie Satan used in the garden was doubting God's Word " DID God really say?" LDS Church members are still falling for it. God's Word teaches us that we are justified through faith Not by works, least any man should boast. The LDS church teaches that they are the only true church. So if they excommunicate someone from the body of Christ that soul is left wandering the Earth Without any chance of salvation...? This is completely unBiblical among so many other teachings. Jesus is the way the truth and the life. God does not dwell in places made by hands. These teachings are very elementary, Jesus Also told the religious leaders of the day they didn't know their scriptures because they thought they would be married in heaven. Jesus kept it very simple. Jesus is the Word John 1:1.

@@tinman6972 Fruit inspector? Maybe you should participate in the Church and inspect the fruits. “Come, and see.” We don’t believe Joseph received an angel proclaiming a different gospel. We believe Jesus is restoring His original, true and everlasting Gospel, which process He started by sending the angel mentioned in Revelation 14:6. Satan DID deceive Adam and Eve, but it was by telling a half-truth. Death WAS brought upon mankind, but we also see that Adam and Eve DID “become as one of Us, knowing good and evil,” according to God’s own observation. We ARE saved by Grace. The Bible also teaches that “faith without works is dead,” and the Book of Mormon confirms that “it is only in and through Christ that we are saved.” Excommunication from the Church is not the end for anyone. It is always their choice, even in the next life (though it is much easier in this life). Mainstream Christianity seems to teach that the majority of humanity is doomed to endless torment, having never heard of Jesus while they were alive. We believe Jesus saves *all* the works of His hands (if that’s what they want.) The Lord Jesus is “a minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.” He is Lord of His Temples, and dwells in no others. A true Temple is not just “a place built with hands.” It is an embassy of His Kingdom. And Jesus spoke truly when He said that none would marry or be given in marriage after they were resurrected. The Jews to whom He spoke did not believe in the literal resurrection of the dead. They did not understand that marriage sanctioned by God is to be performed during mortality and then continue into the eternities. :)

It seems inconsistent to me to sweep all the difficult anachronistic elements of the BoM away by stating that they are "couching in the environment of the day" so that those elements should not be scrutinized and then to describe the translation process in specific detail such that the "translation" process took only 85 days. This would appear as proof that the translation process was not humanly possible. There is actually much in the historical documents that this process actually took much longer than three months. I also wish President Nelson would have expanded on why the change in wording occurred in the title page to "remnant" as it has huge implications regarding Indigenous Peoples or Lamanites attachment to their true heritage/ Clarification as to who and how many true Lamanites actually exist would be a topic he might could address some time in the future.

Wow! The perspective is amazing. There's no way Joseph Smith could've "written" the Book of Mormon. Everyone must say how the Book came to be. If not the way Joseph said, then how? One can deny it all day long, but one must still explain how it's here with us. I put my name to those who proclaim it came to be just as Joseph said did. Paraphrasing him, I know, and I know that God knows, and I can not deny it. The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior.

Lots of great authors out there writing books like Harry Potter, etc. No doubt Smith was very imaginative. Meanwhile, Mormons desecrate the body of Jesus every Sunday when the left over 'blessed and sanctified' bread and water is poured down the sewer or thrown into the trash, as the mormon prophet and leaders smile and speak of the goodness of the LDS church. The BOM is a testimony of 'another jesus' as Apostle Paul warns about in (2 Corinthians 11:4, 14-15); “For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, disguising themselves as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light.

It did NOT have (and never will have) one iota of anything to do with the Book of Mormon. It's absurd to think we can just pick and choose what we read in the book. Especially today when Alma 42 on, the "war chapters", inform us how we prepare and how we stand for truth and righteousness. If all men were like General Moroni, Satan's would not have power over us, is not "couch filler". I desire to be like a man like that, one who truly understood how to apply the balance of mercy and justice. Thees chapters are full of the "how", "what & "when" of what is needed today to safe our freedoms of religion, etc.. The sane ideological war exists today as in the pre mortal existence, during the times of the Nephites, Jaradites, and more, why then not learn from their mistakes, so that we keep the freedoms in order to worship our Lord!

To me The Book of Mormon is an enigma. So many good verses that appear to be true and yet it doesn’t seem to fit into the geography and historical settings of the Americas. In fact, the Native American peoples are so far removed culturally from those who lived during The Book of Mormon period it makes one wonder if there ever was a connection in the first place? The LDS Church had tried to re-indoctrinate, re-educate and reintegrate many Native American peoples to their supposed roots for over a century with little or no success. The program was finally shut down in 2005. It is hard for me and for many to visualize that Native American peoples were ever descendants of Lehi and his extended family including those who came over with Mulek when the Southern kingdom of Israel fell to the Babylonians. As inspired as this Book may appear to be there are still many questions, many things that don’t fit. Will there ever be a day that they will be answered and make sense? I hope so.

Copied and pasted from another comment thread under this video: The translation process wasn’t only “a rock in a hat,” and the plates were definitely used in the process. Joseph had to “grow into the principle of revelation,” and be taught how to translate, through the Holy Spirit. The Lord used means that were comfortable and familiar to Joseph to teach him according to his limited knowledge and understanding. (Seer stones and the like were not uncommon at the time. Yes, people were superstitious.) It wasn’t a “magic rock.” The “magic” was the miracle: the Divine aid, or the power of God, working through the limited knowledge of an ignorant and imperfect man. At first, Joseph carefully studied the characters on the plates and used the “interpreters” that were given to him to translate them. At some point, as his understanding deepened and his confidence in God increased, he may have placed the interpreters or his “seer stone” in a hat and dictated it that way, because it was familiar to him. In time, however, we see that Joseph was able to translate without interpreters or seer stones, instead receiving revelation directly through the Holy Ghost. He had matured in his understanding of spiritual things. This is a powerful witness to me that Joseph truly was instructed of God, because it echoes my own experiences with learning to receive personal revelation from God.

@@Jacob0506 I really don't care how the Book of Mormon was translated, but I don't like being the brunt of a South Park/BroadwayJoke. Consider this...When Joseph was first attempting to "translate" the plates, he was under strict command not to show any items of antiquity to anyone (on pain of death.) This included his own wife. Therefore whatever Emma and Peter Whitmere saw (and later testified of,) were only the things they were allowed to see. Is it possible that the Urim & Thummim was already in the hat when Joseph was seen putting his "seer stone" in with it and then concealing everything with his face, as the local newspaper was reporting? Is it possible that Joseph's little rock was merely a ruse? I don't think the Lord was unaware of this pretense (see D&C 5:4.) This would explain a few things... 1. This particular Scripture in the D&C. 2. The title page of the BofM. 3. Joseph's reluctance to give any specific details of the translation process. 4. Joseph's willingness to just give his "seer stone" away stating he had no further use for it. (How could you do such a thing if the stone had actually helped in translating the Book of Mormon?) Personally I don't believe Joseph "translated" a single word but only dictated words which were appearing before him. There just wasn't enough time to ponder and study.

Last year every Sunday lesson was on the New Testament, the year before that was the Old Testament, and this year is the Book of Mormon, and it continues rotating like that every year. We teach the bible more then any religion on earth, and we study it in it's entirety, not just parts that we want to read. If you don't understand what we believe, then read the whole bible and really study it, and you will find many of our beliefs that are condemned, actually come from the bible. And look to sources that actually know our religion and doctrine, not people who hate us or look down upon our beliefs. If someone was told some things about your religion and beliefs, wouldn't you want them to ask you and get the truth of what you really believe, instead of relying on people who don't even know your beliefs to tell them?

The church contradicts the BOM and misinterprets its teachings, warnings, prophecies and purpose. The Book explains it clearly that the Covenants mentioned in the scriptures are not Temple marriage or Temple covenants that the leaders talk about all the time in Conferences, the covenants that are mentioned in the scriptures are the covenants that GOD MADE with the House of Israel and that HE, GOD will fulfill in the last days of gathering them from all over the earth into specific geographic locations and then they will become converted to the Lord, the remnants of Jacob from the seed of Lehi will be gathered in the US territory and along with the other remnants and the repentant Gentiles will build Zion, the other Tribes will be gathered in the Palestine. Gentiles nations will be destroyed according to the BOM and Isaiah's prophecies. The Marvelous work referred to and prophesied by Isaiah is the literal gathering of Israel, the destruction of the Gentile Nations and the establishment of Zion. I hope that this time around, people pay attention to the Book Of Mormon and really take it seriously as these events are approaching and will take the world by surprise. Don't expect that everything we have now will stay the same, the USA will cease to exist as nation and the seed of Lehi will be fully established in this land. There is absolutely nothing that will prevent that from happening, the Gentiles need to repent so they can be part and numbered with them, otherwise they will be swept off the face of this land. Study the Book Of Mormon and see it for yourself what the Prophets in the BOM are telling us.

In the Old World, there are NHM and the “land Bountiful.” In the Americas, the exact BoM geography is not 100% confirmed, but I believe the findings on the “Hopewell” Native-American culture in the US align with the history in the BoM very nicely. New discoveries are being made all the time, and they repeatedly verify BoM claims. Joseph was not just making things up. The BoM itself contains many Hebraisms, or ancient Israelite writing patterns. But the biggest or most important evidence is the Spiritual evidence. The Holy Spirit bears witness throughout! And spiritual things are spiritually discerned, not intellectually learned, as Paul taught in 1 Corinthians 2.

I've listened to his talks for decades and never heard anything really anything deep, inspiring, or thought-provoking. It's the same rehashed stuff over and over again. It's like he's teaching to a Primary level audience. You can really tell when the General Authorities are off script (like Ballard recently). Without their teleprompter, they always resort to shallow CTR-5 junior primary level talking points. Even faithful apologists are now admitting Joseph Smith was adding his own world view into the Book of Mormon and many are now even talking about the Book of Mormon as a non-literal, non-historical product. Others frankly admit that the BoM is really not that great of an achievement and others have written more complex books at a younger age with no assistance. As example, Gregory A Prince Pathology researcher, author, historian of LDS movement has called for those who still believe in the literal historicity of the Book of Mormon “to grow up.” He believes the BoM is merely an allegory of events that never really happened. I agree with his statement, “I don’t believe most Mormons know what their religion is about" You should watch this. Joseph Smith said this was a wrong concept and declared: . . . the people should (each one stand for himself, )(and depend on no man or men)( in that state of corruption) of the Jewish church-that (righteous persons could only deliver their own souls)(-applied it to the present state of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints-)said if the people departed from the Lord, (they must fall-that they were depending on the Prophet)(, hence were darkened in their minds, in consequence of neglecting the duties devolving upon themselves), . . . (TPJS, pp. 237-238) And there ran a young man, and told Moses, and said, Eldad and Medad do prophesy in the camp. And [91] Joshua the son of Nun, the servant of Moses, one of his young men, answered and said, My lord Moses, forbid them. And Moses said unto him, Enviest thou for my sake? Would God that all the Lord’s people were prophets, and that the Lord would put his spirit upon them! (Num. 11:25-29)

The mission of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is to make all of its members “prophets” and “prophetesses.” But that’s up to each individual to decide for themselves, and to work out with God. It’s also true that God is a God of order, and He calls servants to preside in the organizations of His Church. There is a line of authority. If everyone had equal authority to lead and direct the Church, we’d be inevitably end up no better than modern-day evangelical Christianity, who have 40,000+ denominations, and who agree on all the “important stuff,” but can’t agree enough to be united in one body. That’s not what Jesus intended for His people.

@@Jacob0506 it's amazing how all the LDS love to quote David Alexander's "40,000 denominations" thing without having the slightest clue that it's meaningless. They think it's a real "gotcha" for evangelical Christianity when what it really stands for is 40,000 *congregations* which all -- aside from minor differences in practices and some outlying beliefs -- at their root and core have faith in Jesus Christ as their Savior -- Eternal God -- and The Bible as God's Revealed Word to man.

@sagesaith6354 That’s all well and good, but belief in Jesus and in the Bible is not the same as “one faith, one baptism.” The restored Church of Jesus Christ has the Living Christ to give them the Living Word of God. We have over 30,000 “congregations,” but all of them have the exact same organization and teach the exact same beliefs and practices: Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, repentance, baptism for the remission of sins, and the laying on of hands for the Gift of the Holy Ghost! Exactly as is outlined in the Bible for the Former-Day Saints, and exactly as the Living Christ has directed us in the Latter Days. We have something that evangelical Christianity does not. If you don’t believe me, “come, and see.”

Jacob , it is Not the LDS churches mission to make all prophets.. I am a member, and no way do they teach that.. sorry… priestcraft is what is taught especially at General Conferences. I am Not bitter, i am someone that always sought the Lord and Not Follow the Prophet that the Lord told me specifically, Don’t touch the Unclean Thing… and they are absolutely Unclean.. Isaiah 28 speaks very accurately about the state of Ephraim and it’s HEAD .. and it matches the Talk on PRIDE Ezra T Benson had Gordon B Hinkley Read.. The Church is in trouble!! And anyone attached to the Head that is the beard ( Ezekiel 37) a barbers razor 🪒 will have its work.. Because the Father Loves his children..
