Russell Hobbs Electric Salt and Pepper Grinder Set | Review

Electric salt and pepper grinders make it so much easier - especially for people with hand, wrist or elbow problems such as Fibromyalgia, Tendonitis, RSI etc. No more hand clenching pain, or twisting wrists sending shooting stabs up my forearm!
I cashed in some FlyBuys points (a shopper reward scheme in Australia) and got this Russell Hobbs Electric Salt and Pepper grinder set with a brushed stainless steel finish, model RHPK4000. They retail from $AU24 - $AU49.49 depending where you buy them from so make sure to shop around before you buy!
PROS: They are pretty and shiny! The brushed stainless steel finish looks great, the one touch button is easy to reach and use (even with sore hands), and it's easy to adjust the grind size. You can grind dried herbs and spices as well as the usual salt and pepper, and it even has a light that shines when you grind!
CONS: The holding capacity for the seasonings is quite small. I think we'll be filling it often! And I think the crumb tray is pretty useless. It doesn't attach to the grinder, you simply stand the grinder on the clear tray when it's not in use. This requires co-ordination and dexterity, something I don't have. Trying to stand the device on the little tray would, more often than not, result in a falling over and crashing to the floor (of the grinder, not me!) and a heck of a mess.
I'm old school and would have soldiered on with the good old manual grinder but my son has nerve damage in both wrists and kept saying how much he wanted some electric ones. So even though I will benefit from the ease of use, I mainly got them for him. And I'm glad I did. I'm really happy with them and the convenience they deliver.

Helpful hint... if the light stops working (especially the salt) just clean off the top of the connectors as they get a build up of what can only be explained as rust.

I watched this vid because I wasn’t sure about the plastic bases.. and yes they’re completely useless. Even the cheap Kmart S&P I’m replacing fastened to the bottoms… Thanks for the review !

🤣 I know, right! I just stand them in a dish to catch the fallout. Other than that, they're really good.

Glad you enjoyed it, Carlos! We've found that we do need to refill them often but they are so much easier on sore hands.

I agree with you totally. I came on KZread to see if I was doing it wrong. The bottom bases are rediculous!

If they clipped into place they'd be handy but the way they are doesn't seem to have any useful function. 🤷‍♀️

@@AthomewithKaren I think you're exaggerating, if they were clipped into place, you complain all the time that you have to use two hands to run. If the bottom bases are not good, put them on a plate ...

@@dzidzej6110 you wouldn't need two hands to run, you'd simply need to unhook the base first. And yes, I store them in the pantry standing in a container. Thanks for watching and offering solutions!
