Right!? Schultz actually brings something to this world.
Rick Rubin is never seems to touch the art, but touches the artist. If the artist was a sculptor, he'd say, _"What is your objective? Is your chisel sharp enough? That mallet is too heavy for carving something that delicate. Leave that piece of stone intact. Carve that piece of stone away. Refine that piece of stone. That needs polishing. What do your instincts say? Don't forget the fundamentals of what made you."_ There are producers like Bob Rock, who pick up a mallet and chisel and work with the artist, which can alter the dynamics of the piece. And there's Rick Rubin, who is the muse, analyst, and critic, who observes from afar and watches the artists bring the sculpture come to life.

Exactly, too many people and too many wanting to show off and mayve a bit too much ego, and cant stay quiet.
The good thing is that Rick Rubin doesn't care if people understand what he does. Because too many people clearly don't. All that matters is the artists he works with do. LL Cool J talks about how Rubin taught him song structure and picked which beats to go with and praises him to no end. Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers said the lyrics to Under The Bridge was just a poem he scribbled at the back of a notebook and didn't think it was worth anything, and Rubin twisted his arm to read it to him and immediately told him that was his next hit and got the band to hear it and the rest is history. He's the reason behind Run DMC putting rock guitars in their beats, and ultimately collabing with Aerosmith. He's in the artists' ear saying go this way, go that way. He's a muse. And every artist knows what a muse is worth. If you don't, stop calling yourself an artist.
Let's not forget that Rick Rubin hands on produced some of the biggest icons in rap: LL Cool J, Public Enemy, The Beastie Boys, etc. Also, people need to learn what a producer's job really is. Quincy Jones, George Martin (for the most part), Jimmy Iovine didn't make the music themselves, they guided projects.
They cutting Russ off everytime he tries to explain something...hectic
He’s basically a coach but for creatives. Psychologically, there is great benefits to a coach, so long as the coach has the right intentions, is asking the right questions, working towards the outcomes the coachee actually wants. It is quite clear that’s what Rick Rubin does, and that’s amazing. CEOs and sports stars commonly have coaches (not literal sports coaches, professional coaching for mindset, motivation, goals etc), I think it’s very reasonable to assume creatives can benefit similarly. I’m a psychologist and I completely understand the stigma surrounding “life coach” type people, but I think Rick Rubins track record is enough :)

Rick Rubin is the knife sharpener. You may be able to cut a record but with Rick in the room that shit is gonna be sharp, edgy and clean.
Andrew keeps cutting Russ off and over talking him. That shit is annoying
RR listens unbiasedly and gives very specific instructions on how to arrange the music so it works. It's just listening critically and getting the ego out of the way. He's also a character in hip hop so there's synergy in hanging out with him because he has a. long history of working with artists so it naturally inspires creativity.
The best analogy to use is that he's like an editor who has your best interest at heart. somethings not clear, make it clear, is this clear but not resonating, cut it out, somethings not being said that need to be said, say it, is this following an overall theme? no, cut it.

My best musical project was a side project with my friend Brianna and she wasn’t a musician but she co produced my whole project so it was a duo, she had direction and a great set of ears so she helped me keep things in pocket. For that project. She didn’t play one thing but had input on everything
Rick Rubin’s resume is insane. Y’all are silly for even questioning that
I guess if I could explain what Rubin is to hip hop in the boxing world is comparable to the hall of famer trainer Cus D’Amato. Cus has never fought professionally but understands boxing and understood how to get into his fighters psyche and make them the beast fighter they were. Cus taught/trained Mike Tyson and Floyd Patterson. Cus was able to develop Champions despite not have professional fighting experience. His insight was enough to pass that onto other fighters. That is what Rick Rubin is in the Hip Hop world.
i dont understand whats so hard to understand about what Rick brings to the table and does lol
It’s very disappointing not hearing one thing about Rick Rubin’s rich hip hop history
Questioning Rick Rubin credentials is asinine
If you really want to know who he is just search him up and you'll find out he was the co founder of Def Jam Recordings, and was also a former co president of Columbia Records. So yeah Schultz he actually has crazy credits
Rick Rubin is an actual wizard/warlock. He knows exactly how to manipulate sound and words to cast a spell/enchant/hypnotize the unsuspecting masses. That’s why no one knows what he’s doing, because most people don’t even understand the spiritual level this guy works on.

Andrew, is the type to miss an opportunity because of his skepticism. Gotta step outta yourself sometimes. Rick has been successful longer than he’s been alive and worked with artists who are no longer alive. Crazy he’d be skeptical.

I agree to a certain extent, though allowing the guest to think can be beneficial in telling a story, and allow recollections of passed experiences to be vocalized. I'd bet there are many guest who after appearing on the show are kicking themselves that they hadn't told "this story" or "that anecdote" because they weren't allowed to think or breathe due to a barrage of questions and statements shredding his train of thought.
Bro doesnt know who RICK is... he said "WHATS HIS HUSTLE" lmao! 30 years of being around music my friend! lol
Rick Rubin has an entire Wikipedia page for his discography which spans four and a half decades. He was added to Times list of the “100 most influential people IN THE WORLD”! MTV called him “the most important producer of the last 20 years". He holds EIGHT Grammy awards for ‘album of the year’ and ‘producer of the year’. I think these achievements speak for his talents.

Schultz is right, people should be skeptical of Rick Ruben. Is he a good dude? Probably. Is here sincere? Possibly. He's not a Guru, and he's not majestic. He's a dude who decided to put rock guitar loops over bad drum machine tracks, back in the 1980's, to make rap desirable for the masses. Good move, but nothing more, nothing less. Ever since then, the industry has been calling upon him to help cultivate a hit or two from specific bands/groups/rappers. My mom would be more integral and honest towards my art production than anyone else.
Why would Jay-Z work with some Zz top looking guy if he didn't have the juice? Some of this shit these guys say is flat out dumb. Did we really have to interrupt the topic with a discussion about Phil Jackson?
Rick Rubin is there for the labels to ensure they make the most money and have their desired influences upon the artists finished product, no? Would you not send the most qualified person to oversee the most successful artists of all time? Maybe this is falling on Deaf Jammed Ears? Tastes like ...heaven?
Rick Rubin is not just hip hop. He may have started with def jam but even then his style had a rock vibe as you can hear in beastie boys run dmc n LL. Also jays 99 problems. Then the Johnny cash albums. Dude is a musical genius
