Flagrant is a comedy show that delivers unfiltered, unapologetic, and unruly hot takes directly to your dome piece. In an era dictated by political correctness, hosts Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh, along with AlexxMedia and Mark Gagnon, could care less about sensitivities. If it’s funny and flagrant it flies. If you are sensitive this podcast is not for you. But if you miss the days of comedians actually being funny instead of preaching to a choir then welcome to The Flagrancy.

Rick Rubin is never seems to touch the art, but touches the artist. If the artist was a sculptor, he'd say, _"What is your objective? Is your chisel sharp enough? That mallet is too heavy for carving something that delicate. Leave that piece of stone intact. Carve that piece of stone away. Refine that piece of stone. That needs polishing. What do your instincts say? Don't forget the fundamentals of what made you."_ There are producers like Bob Rock, who pick up a mallet and chisel and work with the artist, which can alter the dynamics of the piece. And there's Rick Rubin, who is the muse, analyst, and critic, who observes from afar and watches the artists bring the sculpture come to life.

The good thing is that Rick Rubin doesn't care if people understand what he does. Because too many people clearly don't. All that matters is the artists he works with do. LL Cool J talks about how Rubin taught him song structure and picked which beats to go with and praises him to no end. Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers said the lyrics to Under The Bridge was just a poem he scribbled at the back of a notebook and didn't think it was worth anything, and Rubin twisted his arm to read it to him and immediately told him that was his next hit and got the band to hear it and the rest is history. He's the reason behind Run DMC putting rock guitars in their beats, and ultimately collabing with Aerosmith. He's in the artists' ear saying go this way, go that way. He's a muse. And every artist knows what a muse is worth. If you don't, stop calling yourself an artist.

Let's not forget that Rick Rubin hands on produced some of the biggest icons in rap: LL Cool J, Public Enemy, The Beastie Boys, etc. Also, people need to learn what a producer's job really is. Quincy Jones, George Martin (for the most part), Jimmy Iovine didn't make the music themselves, they guided projects.

He’s basically a coach but for creatives. Psychologically, there is great benefits to a coach, so long as the coach has the right intentions, is asking the right questions, working towards the outcomes the coachee actually wants. It is quite clear that’s what Rick Rubin does, and that’s amazing. CEOs and sports stars commonly have coaches (not literal sports coaches, professional coaching for mindset, motivation, goals etc), I think it’s very reasonable to assume creatives can benefit similarly. I’m a psychologist and I completely understand the stigma surrounding “life coach” type people, but I think Rick Rubins track record is enough :)

I guess if I could explain what Rubin is to hip hop in the boxing world is comparable to the hall of famer trainer Cus D’Amato. Cus has never fought professionally but understands boxing and understood how to get into his fighters psyche and make them the beast fighter they were. Cus taught/trained Mike Tyson and Floyd Patterson. Cus was able to develop Champions despite not have professional fighting experience. His insight was enough to pass that onto other fighters. That is what Rick Rubin is in the Hip Hop world.

I'd bet there are many guest who after appearing on the show are kicking themselves that they hadn't told "this story" or "that anecdote" because they weren't allowed to think or breathe due to a barrage of questions and statements shredding his train of thought.

Schultz is right, people should be skeptical of Rick Ruben. Is he a good dude? Probably. Is here sincere? Possibly. He's not a Guru, and he's not majestic. He's a dude who decided to put rock guitar loops over bad drum machine tracks, back in the 1980's, to make rap desirable for the masses. Good move, but nothing more, nothing less. Ever since then, the industry has been calling upon him to help cultivate a hit or two from specific bands/groups/rappers. My mom would be more integral and honest towards my art production than anyone else.

Rick rubin is a producer who was a musician first. How many modern producers can write music on real musical instruments?

wait what? Rick has definitely made it known in past interviews that he doesn't know how to play a musical instrument or know how to work a mixing board. And Charlie Puth is one modern producer who has perfect pitch and can play everything.

I’m a big fan of Russ’s music, but at this point it just feels like he’s always blaming his lack of success on industry plants and industry organizations that are meant to tear down the artist, rather than just except the fact that he will never have as big of a platform as most rappersif you even want to call Russ rapper at this point
