"He knows changes aren't permanent, but change is" always gets me 😁 Change is (permanent).

Back in '81 when I was first hearing this my buddy, who introduced me to Rush, was always puzzled when he heard Tom Sawyer because didn't understand the line, "...changes aren't permanent, the changes!" 😂 Pre-internet there were always mis-heard lyrics!

@@Agg1E91 - Yeah, I used to hear something like "Ohhh, changes!" too, in those medieval times! 😄 Not every album came with printed lyrics either!

@@Agg1E91 - I'm listening to 'The Camera Eye' right now, and I remember wondering "WHAT kind of shop in the city?!" (where he sings about the focus being sharp in the city) when the 'Moving Pictures' album was brandnew to me: In April '89, during a week-long school trip to Vienna, on a classmate's tape, and he lent me his walkman so I could listen to it 😁

@@davecole2561 - This is the 2nd time the Peter Kay clip pops up for me this week! The other time was around an E.L.O. song 😄
I’m glad you dig RUSH! I play drums and have seen every tour since 1977. Neil Peart is the ultimate percussionist-drummer-lyricist. His command of the drums are like no other and his command of the English language and literature are second to none! All in All not bad for a guy who didn’t graduate high school but ironically is called: THE PROFESSOR! RIP PROFESSOR

@@garylagstrom3864 awesome! I saw them in Washington D.C. in December that year. My first concert. Whoa. Huge. Unbelievable!
Tom Sawyer is their most well known song.
I was fortunate to see RUSH live 6 times. Probably my favorite band of all time! Such a talented group of musicians, only 3 but wow did they have a full sound on a stage!!! RIP Prof!
Like my most challenging college professor said - "It's not what it means - it's what it means TO YOU."
I remember in the late 80's me and my bandmates trying to cover Rush songs (Tom Sawyer, Limelight, Red Barchetta, Tears, In The Mood, The Trees and Closer to the Heart), even though were far from perfect we're very proud of and our other friends are amazed by our skills. Hahahaha what a ridiculous moment at that time.
Hello coming from England growing up listening to Rush and most Rock groups I am now retired and still listening to this Awesome music Also I am glad you like proper music🎹🎸🎼👍👍👍👍 all the best from Nottinghamshire UK
Tom Sawyer was played at EVERY SINGLE Rush concert after its release. EVERY ONE. At the end of Red Barchetta, the driver escaped from the Alloy aircars chasing him (at the one lane bridge) and returned to 'dream with his Uncle, at the fireside'. So he didn't crash or get caught. If you are doing YYZ you NEED, NEED, NEED to do the Live in Rio version. Limelight has a video that looks a whole lot like the Tom Sawyer video you watched and is the studio version. If you are enjoying bass, you need to do Driven (from Test for Echo) and Leave that Thing Alone (live would be preferable). I am enjoying your Rush reactions so much!

I was 17 years old when I saw them for the first-time on this tour been a fan my whole life took my sons to see them for the first time on the snakes and arrows tour can't wait to introduce my grandson to this wonderful band and their music
I am now soon 40 years old - and I was a "bit" spoiled as a 10 year old.... my 14 year old brother and his band would play Red Barchetta for me live in their studio. That was how I was endeared to Rush.
I love your reaction because everything you say is exactly how feel. The greatest rock band of all time
Great commentary, thanks. I grew up with this music, thanks for your authentic look at this music and it's time.
Red Barchetta it's a Ferrari vehicle from the 1950's amazing song. I got to see Rush play Live 5 times. Tom Sawyer is Rush #1 hit song. This video was recorded in Le Studio in Canada in early 1981. It's on the Moving Picture album. Witch Hunt on Moving Pictures. Jacobs Ladder on Permanent Waves, La Villa Strangiato on Hemispheres. La Villa in my opinion is Rush absolute masterpiece , The song is just under 10 minute instrumental. Alex Lifeson the guitarist wrote this song from a nightmare dream 1978 at age 24.

Aaahhh i see well makes sense since it is red the colour Ferrari is know for. Thank you for all the details and explanations😁👍
Red Barchetta was a song that drummer-Lyricist Neil Peart wrote about a 166 Mille Miglia Ferrari circa 1948. Peart took inspiration about this car on a Road and Track story called: A Nice Morning Drive by Richard S. Foster and gave him the idea to write about the car and a kid’s fascination with escaping the motor law and sharing this with his uncle on a country farm! Enjoy!😮
"Barchetta" is Italian for "little boat". And it refers to a class of cars made by both Ferrari and Fiat. Basically any small, two seater convertible with a 2.0l or smaller motor (technically a Mazda Miata would be a "Barchetta" if it were Italian). I remember when I lived in Colorado and owned a vintage Porsche how I would listen to this song as I drove up US 24 from Manitou Springs to Woodland Park ... a beautiful drive ... wind in my hair ... shifting and drifting. Those were halcyon days. On a side note, the red car in the "Spirit of Radio" video is the Barchetta they're talking about in this song.
They are aliens from the future
I am glad you like this. Rush is one of my 3 favorite all time groups. I was 20 when this album came out. We all loved side one of the album. But side 2 is the really deep cuts that ate super good( The Camera Eye, Wicth Hunt and Signs). They represent the really progressive side of Rush. Check them out.
Los tres chiflados mejor banda de la historia saludos
Just to inform you, Barchetta refers to a particular model of Ferrari that was built by the Italian car maker in the early 1940s and later in the early 1950s. Also known as a Ferrari 166. Today a Ferrari 166 Barchetta is a very rare car indeed. It was one of drummer Neil Peart's favorites. Peart had a taste for vintage sports cars. At his death he had a collection of his own consisting of early model Corvettes, Porsche 911s, and Aston Martins. All silver as far as I know.
New subscriber here! Enjoying your youthful excitement! I've been a Rush fan since my teenage years (80's) and have been in a few Rush tribute bands. Gotta be a nit-picker and tell you... The TEMPO never changes in either of these songs. Nothing is faster / slower than anything else. What you are hearing is moving from full time 4/4 to half time 8/4. You could set a metronome at the beginning and the click would never change.Actual time changes, drastic ones they DO in many other songs! But not these ones. Keep going! ENJOY!
Glad you like RUSH im a GUITARIST SO YEA THANK YOU
The changes that are made are never set in stone and never permanent. That's why change is always happening, expected and sometime unexpected at some point which makes it permanently going on as time goes on.
Middle section where Geddy starts the keyboards 🎹 parts start counting: 7/8…1234567…1234567…1234567 etc
Best known album because it was the most radio friendly. :)
A Barchetta is the nickname of certain models of Ferrari. That's not keyboard at the beginning, that's Alex playing harmonics on his guitar.
By the way, your English is *great* ! 🤩👍 Surely you didn't learn it only at school!? 🙂 And as a musician, it always makes me smile when non-musicians describe music-technical stuff with their own words 😊 Also, you remind me a lot of a work mate of mine from several years ago 😄 Greetings from NZ! 👋😀
The length of Rush songs started trending downward with Permanent Waves. But even radio-friendly Moving Pictures only has seven songs.
Glad you enjoyed the songs. Had a great time listening to more Rush with you. Have a great week!
A Barchetta is a very collectable Italian car.
Great reaction! Hugs from Norway :D
"He knows changes aren't permanent." "But change IS." (permanent, constant change))
I can't believe anyone your age would hear real music!!!
Got to experience them in concert. Think you may may know.
...meanwhile you can imagine why they are called "the best band in the galaxy", right?
Moving Pictures was the first Rush album I bought
"He knows changes aren't permanent. But change _is_ [permanent]"! 😉
Totally enjoying your reactions and breakdowns! Keep 'em coming!😊
Rush is baddaas
Only 500 Red Barchettas like the one in the video were made, But Ferrari will custom-make ya one now for about $48,000. A great song of a future where the electric cars can fly and gas powered ones are illegal "The motor law" I also bet the "Air cars" were the cops, trying to pull him over! (I love the licks Lifeson uses to kick off the coda--sounds like a car taking off , along with the beep-beep sound he does like a horn) Loved your reaction!
I really liked the way you pointed out the lyrics "No Changes Are Permanent", and then proceeded to the lyrics of "But Change Is". As many times as I have listened to this track, I have never picked up on these lyrics until now.
RED BARCHETTA PRONOUNCED: BAR-KET-Ah but Geddy called it BAR-Chet-Ah
Hi your always spot on Venice fun to watch…… if you can listen to the band CCR. They are my favorite
Neil had no problem keeping warm...when it was like minus 30 outside or something here. Great reaction 😁👍🤘🤘🤘
This song is responsible for two speeding tickets
Other great band from Ontario Canada is Motion Device.
Check out the By-tor and the Snowdog,In the End, In the Mood, Grand Finale medley for them at their best live.
This video for Tom Sawyer is a great peek into how music is made . Geddy playing bass, keyboards and singing all on separate tracks for the album …… but watching him do it all live on stage with bass, foot pedals and singing….. I’m so sorry you won’t be able to experience that for yourself someday.😢
Love the reactions! If there is a way you can raise the volume of the video's you are reacting to (they are rather muted), that would be great! ❤
Your finger snaps are hurting my wrists!!!! ❤️💕❤️💕❤️ I’m an old man, what can I say?
Pretty girl liking Rush…a man can’t ask for any more
I can give you so many songs!!!!
Tom Sawyer… I first heard it in Futurama, but I hadn't heard the name of the group. Then one day Spotify played it to me and I finally discovered Rush. But you really don't say anything about the great Neil Peart? I was amazed seeing that video the first time... The live you used for Red Barchetta (it's a Ferrari from the 50s) is the one recommended by everyone for Xanadu, Exit Stage Left 1981. Rush are spectacular live!!
You are a very smart young lady! Damn!
My initial reaction is that you looks so pretty today. :)
🎉
I get your comments 100 percent
I see so much that the younger gens. music really sucks....when they hear ours they are blown away!!!!
You need to check out the Permanent Waves album from 1978, which preceded this one in 1981... very different but probably in their top three or four albums of all time if not the top two

You have the beautiful nerd girl look locked down. Don't ever let anyone tell you aren't a beautiful goddess.
Barchetta is an Italian sports car.
Tom Sawyer is one of their more lyrically easy to understand songs. The first line explains it all ... Just imagine a Tom Sawyer figure plucked from the 1800s and set down in the modern world.
Definitely is a car brand Barchetta
You should try The Reign Of Kindo. Search youtube fot it and choose any of the songs. You will love it...
Please , React to Rush - Red Sector A ( with lyric ) = song about holocaust . Geddy Lee ( singer ) parents was survive to holocaust . Neil Peart ( drummer deep lyric ) 😎👍
Thats 3 solows at once only rush can pull that off
At 57 years old I am so glad you love this song and the next one BUT please shut up and let them play

I'm the same age and yes she does interrupt a little too much but I must admit she is a very intellectual talented young woman and seems very mature for her age. To top it off, she is sincerely enjoying my favorite band and also my second favorite band called Band-Maid.
It's so dissapointing that like most reactors that you never agnoliage the Geddy is not only the lead singer and the bass player, but also the keyboard player.... Neil is the GOAT of drums (look up Frankfurt Germany live drum solo). Geddy is a GOAT because he is the bassest, keyboardest and singer. Of course Alex is such a great guitarist.

I believe i did mention it in previous videos as i am aware and love him playing the bass and keyboards but if not then now here i can let you know that i know and really love his work😁
I was watching your every reaction, you had a sense of what was happening to you, but you still don't quite get it, You were trying to focus on everything but clearly that was impossible, so instead you chose to listen to the music, Nothing wrong with that, I have a card to the club, but how you really embrace Rush is to put the lyrics to the music... That takes time for some songs, you need to enter it like a fight.. ;)
Can't believe the explanations here. Sigh. He's saying that that you can never get away from the fact that change will always occur no matter what, whether you want it to or not and thus any particular given change is temporary. Tom Sawyer stoically accepts what he must.
The end section STOPS are a nod to 2112 musically speaking. So it goes with all three playing STOPS in this format: STOP-STOP…STOP…STOP…STOP-STOP! 2112
So you have heard these. Itsobviouus talking to those things......
@ 13:04 , are you saying duet, or are you saying duex / Du-ex moment?
Red what ?
Best selling is a poor measure of musical quality, all that really means is that more people outside the knowledgeable fan base liked it. Many Rush fans, myself included would say Permanent Waves is the better album than Moving Pictures.
During the second song you need to just shut up and let them play and react after the song is over. Your messing with absolute perfection here.
Changes aren't permanent but change is. Again you're unfortunately missing language context, change implies something much larger than changes.
“Love and life are deep” makes me think of those who believe a fetus is just a clump of cells 🤦🏻♂️
I have no idea what you listen to
To much saying Gorgeous
Red Barchetta was way too low on volume abd that was not the live version either. Listen to a truly live version of both of those songs and try Xanadu exit stage left newbie!
Volume too low for me on RC. I can't. And the intros are too loud
