Neil was the one who came up with the idea to even do this medley as the set opener for the R30 Tour choosing a part of a song from each album in chronological order up until TSoR which is then played in-full of course. The actual name of this medley is called the “R30 Overture”, not the “best intro ever”, but it’s now kinda known as that due to the video being labeled as that by posters on KZread.

This intro came about as a way of featuring some songs that they were no longer performing, either because they simply could not fit them into a 3 hour show at that point in their career, or because Geddy's voice could no longer hit the high notes they required. For example, as you know, Cygnus X-1 would take over 30 minutes to perform in its entirety, not to mention that high note near the end of Book 1. Great reaction as always; looking forward to seeing you go further into Permanent Waves. 🎤 🎹 🎸 🥁 🎸 🔥 🔥 🔥

In 1974 I paid like $8 to see Billy Preston....RnB Funk artist/keyboardist. Had a few Top40 hits. Long story short....2 virtually unknown bands opened up for him. BTW...I was literally front row up against the stage, stage right the whole night. When the house lights finally came down a thundering guitar hammering A notes began. then with the stage lights the bass and drums. 3 guys basically in Tshirts and worn jeans started jamming and the crowd lunged forward. That is when being on the front row can be a bit tight...lol I was just a few feet from Alex the whole show. So after Rush was done someone passed around these purple cigs.....then the second band came out. Standing about 5 five in front of me was this 7 foot demond playing the bass. At first I thought..."wow that was some good shit I just puffed on". But nope...hell the whole band had their faces painted.
