I always enjoy watching Raaen’s mind at work. He is a natural scientist who grasped the life and death dilemmas that the astronauts faced on Apollo 13 from a scientific point of view. My biggest dream for this channel is that he would be able to find a way to put that intelligent mind to use in a some kind of technological or scientific inquiry. I have no idea what those opportunities would be or how they would come. Being a tailor is noble work- but he could do anything with that brain.

Yeah, he understood that though the astronauts were not running out of air, the carbondioxide they exhaled was poisoning them. The movie did explain it, but only briefly because it's kind of common knowledge in the Western world.

I hope what he says at 38:31 is a translation error. The environment there is not hot, but the spacecraft is moving through the atmosphere at such a high speed that frictional heat is generated by the air molecules as it slows down.

The Navy Captain who is commanding the rescue ship at the end is played by the real Jim Lovell. The movie makers were going to make the character an Admiral, but he said that as he retired as a Captain, a Captain he'd be. His wife Marilyn plays one of the spectators at the launch.
Ken Mattingly, the astronaut who was played by Gary Sinise, the one who couldn't go, passed away a few months back at 87.

Wow, so between Ken, Gene, Jim, Jack and Fred: The only one who didn't make it to 2023 is Jack. It's sad that Jack didn't make it but at least the others got to live long happy lives.
These actors did an excellent job portraying the true story of Apollo 13. Great reaction. You guys are awesome.
Jim Lovell is now 95 years old. Fred Haise is 90 years old, and Jack Swiggert died in 1982 of lung failure.

The reason for the Apollo 1 tragedy was because pure oxygen was used to pressurize the cabin. What turned "accident" to "tragedy" was that the cabin door had an overly complicated opening mechanism that kept the astronauts from escaping in time.
@AdamNisbett
5 ай бұрын
Though that is definitely a problem, even had the door not malfunctioned the pure oxygen at such high concentrations made even materials that weren’t very flammable extremely flammable. So even had they been able to open the door normally it’s very possible that the fire would have still been too fast to save them. After that, they used a mixture much closer to normal atmosphere until they get out to space and then reduce the pressure when switching to pure oxygen. At the reduced pressure the concentration of the oxygen isn’t much higher than normal so it’s not dangerous at low pressures - they just hadn’t accounted for it making everything super flammable at increased concentrations.
Hello, Babu and Raeen... very nice to see you again, too, Aman - the king of eating! I like your singing. I loved watching this with you all. Babu wears his heart on his shirt sleeve and Raeen is always thinking and analyzing. 💖
We are actually going back to the moon in a few years, the ship was tested last year for the first time, in 2025 they have planned to do a flyby of the moon without landing with 4 astronauts. In 2026 the moon landing is planned, but theres a high chance it will be delayed a year or two because they are still building the lunar lander. In 2028, though also probably delayed a year or two, they will go back again and begin construction of a space station around the moon and the plan is to use the space station to help build a permanent moon base. Very exciting to think that people will be living around the moon in 5 years and maybe living on the moon not too long after that.
The clips of the people reporting on TV are not actors. It is actually live reporting from 1969.
If they like this one then "First Man" is an amazing movie about the first moon landing and explored the life of Neil Armstrong who was the first man on the moon.

Unfortunately, that movie assumes you know a lot of things about what happens. It skips, and assumes you know the story in advance. Still, it is a good movie but kind of dark.

What a sincere pleasure to watch films with these gentlemen. I look forward to doing so again soon.
(28:43) Is that a variation on the "I can see my house from here," joke? 🤣
there is a great TV series that covers the whole Apollo program called From the earth to the Moon similar in nature to band of band of brothers and is well worth a watch
I love a True story. This actually happened.
So much thanks for this movie reaction! I was wishing for it quite a while, that they learned about the fate and fortune of Apollo 13. I feel that this movie has become a bit overshadowed by _The Martian_ , which is of course a great movie itself. Still, it has the advantage of being based on a real incident and providing our friends with some real information on space history ;)

Raen seems to get some things the other dont. Would be fun to show them what happens on the international space station. There are videos about it. Anyway, this was a good movie and a good reaction. Much appreciated.
Apollo 13 and Hilarious Moments.... two phrases I NEVER thought I would see together LOL

Awesome space movie.
The world was united during the crisis. There were no bad guys, no one that wished the astronauts ill. We just wanted them home. Never before or since has there been such accord.

This is great! Hopefully we'll soon see the Russian film "Age of Pioneers" (a REALLY good movie about the first spacewalk - known in the US as "The Spacewalker") and the TV series "From the Earth to the Moon".
They should watch Hidden Figures next.. or Tombstone.
I love you guys so much! Babu and everyone! Babu thank you for your song sir. And everyone reach for the moon!
I watched them grow and learn. Before a decade ago, they were stuck in the villages. Now they see the world through the window of what was taught. The education everyone has had through this platform has elevated them to a position most can only hope. The education they have had in the scant few years they’ve been watching, have granted them a collage level education and view of the world. Thirsty for knowledge as they are, they will soon surpass me in my paid education. Go figure, huh? It’s not us that will get it, nor the rich that will survive. It’s going to take guts and determination.
Hidden Figures is another great True film about space travel and America in America 1960s. Also women’s roles in the 60s.
Great choice. I'll watch these before FOOTBALL!!!
They should watch Godzilla 2014, and the rest of the MonsterVerse.

once again, raheen gives us hope. because wtf...
You need to explain to them that in the USA we use Fahrenheit rather than Celsius for temperature. 80 degrees is like 27 degrees Celsius.
Please let them try playing No Man Sky in VR. Flying a spaceship from the space station to your space house is very satisfying. I like to play music as I drop down from the space station in to the planets atmosphere. In VR it is very nice. It can feel better than driving a car 🚗 because you can barrel role and fight pirates in space.
Please have them watch the movie Cosmos that came out in 2019. Never thought I would find a movie that made me feel like I was watching the movie Contact again for the first time. It’s an amazing film.

Even though I usually don't agree with most of her commentary, she has a right to her opinions just as you or Fancy Yancy does, even though he comes from a position of making demands instead of making suggestions or asking nicely. This channel isn't about us and doesn't revolve around any of us. And don't forget she is not only a Menace but she is also a Savage. How many savages that reek havoc do you know that you can sway to your way of thinking? I didn't like Babu at first either but I gave him an honest shot and he grew on me. Same with her.
