Running Up Bear Peak in Boulder via Fern Canyon

Спорт

My favorite mountain to run/climb up on the edge of Boulder. I wasn't going to let a little snow and ice get in the way of putting in some good cardio work above 8,000 feet. Coming off of my shin injury after Bandera it's better for me to start off slow anyway!

SCOTT sports Ice Runner IM shoes...I had some extra "mirco spikes" that had rubber and some little metal spikes on the bottom - however one fell off during this run (near the top) and I never found it again! I might try the sheet metal screw route next for extra traction

I've heard they are really good in the mud. very low profile and light and minimal. Never got a chance to try them myself though.

usually if the fluid has salt/sugar in it the freezing temp is a lot lower than just water. I use Ultimate Direction hydration gear (they are a sponsor of mine of course). i think body heat helps if you have the bottle close - but I've also never run in cold enough conditions for long enough for that to happen! In this video it was probably in the 30s

this is the frontrange...right in Boulder (starting at 5400 feet). If I drive West 45 min I can hit 10,000+ feet on the road in my car...that's where you can get to the really high 14,000+ foot peaks

Nice video Sage, although I thought the elevation would be higher up there.

Did some one else get first tracks at the top? If so, they must have started pretty early. I remember running on Mesa Trail when I lived in Arvada. My buddy and I had a pretty close encounter with a bear one morning... Awesome video!!!
