Stubborn rescue dog ran off few days before new year, nearly died trying to run a few hundred metres after her. Started running 1st jan 21 with aim of a marathon over month. Now 2.5 stone lighter, running 4 times a week,5k parkrun down to low 22 mins, done a few 13.1 mile runs well under 2 hours(best 1:48) including 1 follwed by 6 mile kayak and 8 mile cycle to complete a marathon distance to raise money for macmillan.Decent commitment running in pitch black, rain, gale snow through those first few months and through a fair bit of pain(proper massage and acupuncture is fab!) but feel so much better now than 9 months ago!

I have not run since the 15th of this month (a Tuesday). This is due to the fact that Wednesdays are my days off from running (I run Mon, Tue, Thur & Friday) and on the 16th we had a big snow storm in Massachusetts. But today we had a lot of rain and it's a relatively warm day (58° F/14° C) so all the snow's gone! I can now go back to running any day I want. I never thought there would come a time when I miss running! 😊

I have only recently taken up running. At the start of this video Anna and Kate mentioned not to stretch ,uncles before running. Pre run stretch can hinder your run. I did my first park run yesterday and noticed I was the only person stretching leg muscles. I’ll have to google this further.

She said to not do static stretching, which is when you stretch and hold. If your muscles aren't warm, these can cause injury. Dynamic stretching is good before you workout and static stretching can be good after. Hope that helps.

Thanks for mentioning sports bras. Often it’s one of the things never mentioned for beginners, especially women. My advice to other women has always been to get a good pair of running shoes and a good sports bra. It may not be cheap but a good bra can make such a difference.

Totally agree with all the tips, on kit : I find a hat/visor or #buff cloth is definitely a recommendation to keeping out the sweat or even your hair out of your eyes. Goals are a must but it's mostly about having fun #TheRunningChannel 👍

I bought a running watch (Garmin Forerunner 55) to motivate me and to stick with it (using the Garmin training plan). So a (beginners) running watch can be helpful for those who don't have tranining partners and/or need advice or don't want to create their own training plans.

Again like in the Mistakes video no mention of the most important ie Proper Running Form, technique (footstrike, stride, cadence, leg-arm motion, core,.. A lot of beginners get this wrong and could lead to injuries (happened to me with overstriding).

Hey there, lots of valuable advice in this video, well done! I do have one little correction to offer though: The examples of "SMART" goals you've given near the end of the video all aren't fulfilling the "SMART" criteria. Booking a race is specific indeed, however in what time do you want to complete it (M+A+R)? What's the racing distance going to be, can you even finish it (R)? Running continuously isn't very specific to begin with (what constitute's "running" in terms of pace?), "continuously" is not measurable (M) and there's no set date given by which either the training is going to take place or a certain milestone has to be met (T). Kind of the same principle applies for "getting fit" or "losing weight". Once again, I think this is all very sound advice you've given and I'm not trying to be annoying for the sake of it, but many people sabotage themselves during the early planning stages of a project (such as running or "getting fit") by setting unobtainable goals for themselves, either by omitting the "R(ealistic)" section of goal setting or by defining entirely immeasurable and therefor literally unobtainable goals such as "getting fit". However, I only just stumbled upon your channel and I'll go back to consuming now rather than nit-picking. Happy Christmas and stuff to you guys :o

See, the only thing about running in the rain is this: where I am in the US, if it's raining, it's also absolutely bonkers lightning and thunder. I do enjoy running on the treadmill now that I've gotten used to the weird "rolling" feeling underfoot.

You guys have helped me immensely. Did a charity 3K run 2yrs go, just did a 5K charity run with your help. i thought i started Couch2 5K last yr but it must've been when i did the 3K so i picked up where i left off last month & completed it. starting again so i can run w/o stopping. my question is how to run indoors? I will keep running outdoors until i cant. i stopped the Couch 2 5K because of dark nights. We are heading to that again. 1. is it better to run in place or 2. using tile matts down my hallway?

Best tip is not to run too much. High impact and long duration leads to joint issues. Uphill walking or sprint training is better. Sprinting may be high impact but its very brief duration. Its simple to improve cardio fitness and burn calories without wrecking your body through years of running.
