Running Maytag engine washer for the first time.

This is the first washing in the vintage Maytag washer after making some adjustments and mounting the Engine. Using a 31 engine. According to the model number it was suppose to have a 32 or 33. Needed a bigger stick to put clothes into the wringer, but the smaller one shows the reason you don't use fingers.

I shure am proud of you taking the time to put this out!!! For years I've been trying to explain to people That can't believe that there was a time when there weren't no electrictricity out where we are!! I have a model 72 Maytag engine and a 1918 Delco generator fully functional among others that require explanation!! Because folks just don't know what they're looking at history!! As they gaze in amazement! Thank YOU for helping keep it alive!! GOD BLESS.

As you pointed out, your Maytag wringer washer was either a Model 32 or 33. I obtained the following information from the Maytag Collectors Club website: Maytag Model 32 & 33 32 was electric. 33 first model with 72 twin gasoline engine Did your Maytag Model 92 Multi-Motor single cylinder gasoline engine bolt onto the "X" frame without having to drill new holes for the engine? I am asking because I was not aware that a Model 92 would bolt onto the Maytag Model 33 wringer washer frame (which originally had a Maytag Model 72 Multi-Motor twin cylinder gasoline engine). Mark.

Your right if you had money back in the day there might have been one of these on the back porch next to a tub with a washboard and another tub on the backside of the wringer to catch your fingers!!

The clothes couldn't have gotten that clean back then because the only problem is there is no rinse cycle so essentially a good amount of dirt is left behind.. We've come along way since then..

I didn't have it set up, but behind the washer they had two rinse tubs. The clothes fell in one the stir'd with a stick, the off to second tub to be rinsed again and then threw the ringer once more and hung on the wash line to dry.

  • @williamplaster571

Here is the answer:You had a tub of clean water to rinse the clothes in once they were sent through the wringer, then you placed the rinsed clothes in the wringer the second time. The clothes were not as clean as today's multiple rinsed clothing, but it beat the old hand wash board by a mile. Been there, done that.

I dont have it set up, but there would be 2 wash tubs on a stand behind the washer with fresh water in one. First ring out in one tub with water. Swish around in the fresh water. Ring out again into second tub and hang on the clothesline.
