I picked this up during the Kickstarted campaign. I ended up having to return the HE due to tons of quirks. The replacement HE has been working perfectly. Their support takes about a day to respond and they worked with me to troubleshoot and ultimately replace the HE. The separate solar chargers are simple PWM modules. The overheating is a pain point, but with four batteries, it's manageable. I was surprised with the 40v MPPT outcome, so thanks for exposing it!! Overall, I'm happy with it and I do use the batteries outside of the HE for the exact reasons you mentioned. Thanks for showcasing Tom! Nice work and I expected nothing less from the Professor.

Speaking of no protection on the MPPT circuit, the Delta 1300 does not have reverse polarity protection on their X60 plug. They told me $470 to repair, including shipping (I'm sure shipping to them is on my own). I told them the Delta 1300 was not worth putting $470 into. They sure saved a lot of money but taking the cheap way out and saving the cost of a diode!

I have following the portable power station for a long time and want to buy one. The product is really very interesting and I haven't seen a similar product on the market. It seems that the is a bit loud, but the unlimited battery-swapping technology is so unique. I can't wait to have one.

I picked it up during Black Friday on Amazon. Honest to say, it's a nice generator I got, though its fans are noisy. I like the idea of a modular battery, so I can use the AC/USB adapter with the "energy bars", that's a genius design! When I didn't need much output power, I could take it everywhere with it lightweight. As always, its 1200w power unit is enough for my camping. Another major improvement is the charging ways of the Runhood 1200, charging the battery without a power station from AC/solar panel/car, that’s a really unique feature to other brands.

Nice review - thanks! I've had the 600 host for a while now. I use the batteries with the small modules a lot more than the main unit. Very convenient. Either as a usb charger, or with the 80w inverter, you can run something like a box fan when needed.

It's a cool product that it uses hot swappable batteries and 1kw in such a small package, however the low PV input voltage makes it hard to integrate into my Solar setup. BTW NMC lipos is not a big deal for me. I prefer LiFe but NMC are just fine.

Prof Hobo definitely opened our eyes on a couple of issues. We are taking a look right now at the MPPT controller. As he said in the video, the meltdown was due to the unit's limits being pushed far past what we recommend on DC charging but a safeguard in place would be a wise addition.

I bought the Ralllye 1200 during their Indiegogo campaign and own the Ralllye 600 as well during the previous campaign. With my bonuses for participating the in the campaigns, I now have 8 power bars and two power stations. For my needs, it works fine. I use this to power DJ equipment in remote locations and it works fine. I'm never going to use the solar power feature so I would say, it depends on your specific needs and uses. I'm glad I watched this review and will keep the power station as cool as possible and well below it's power rated output.

Nice review. You never know how it's important a stable portable power station for a CPAP user. I bought a RALLYE 1200 from Kickstarter. Although it's a bit noisy, the key feature I love most is its hot-swappable technology and it can be recharged with a solar panel. @@justinkraemer7584 Glad to see someone from Runhood lurking in the comments. THis is an intriguing product. I considered the smaller unite during BlkFri, but held off. Glad I did. This unit is sooo close to having the module/portable niche down. If you can just work out those couple sniggly issues Hobo mentioned, you'll have a hit. I have larger LFP power stations, but want something like this for the smaller loads and special use cases where I only want to a battery as a power bank with the small inverter or the DC outputs. Clever design.

They had a few good ideas. I guess they rushed the final product and that’s when details got overlooked. I like the general idea. BLUETTI has two models now that have replaceable batteries. I would love the top unit to connect to any 12v battery (or 12-48v). Upon connection you have to set battery parameters and are good to go.

I wonder if anybody's making that? I know an old GoalZero (I think) had a removable lead-acid battery, which people have been replacing with lithium for a battery that'll probably outlive the inverter. Maybe Bluetti or somebody could make an adapter for their AC200 series backup battery ports that can be clamped on to a 12v battery but will pull enough amps for the full 2000 watts. Mind you, you just know somebody would clamp it to their car's starter battery to cook a pizza in the wilderness, then complain about being stuck out there.

  • @tomproctor.archive
    @tomproctor.archive5 ай бұрын

Great review Professor. Seems like the pros of this unit are the extensible battery configuration, but the con there is the lack of adequate cooling. My sense of this is that for the same money, why wouldn't you just get a Bluetti AC200, which blows this away in terms of capability? (up to 1440 watts 150V input with a built in 2048wH battery). That thing can provide a huge amount of pass-through power during the day with that kind of input. I guarantee frustration to anyone that buys this Rallye, in that is is so severely limited in its solar power input options. The fact that the MPPT controller literally burns up with too much power, rather than switch off, is the Achilles heel of this thing. That should disqualify it right away, since it is a fire hazard.

I give them an "A" for an interesting product with useful features, but a "D" for actual execution. The hot swappable batteries are an excellent idea, but with the AC inverter's abnormally high energy consumption, the overheating issue with the batteries and the MPPT controller burning out? All of that should have been discovered and dealt with in preliminary testing before this went into production. The other issue is the proprietary batteries. How long are those going to be available? I've had dozens of battery operated tools that had to be trashed because the company stopped making the batteries when they changed models or the company went out of business.

I have this and ran my 12v fridge for 3 days before needing to swap batteries. So there might be something wrong with the unit you received.

There nothing wrong with the 12v side. In fact it's one of the lowest consumption I've tested.

I recently used 1200 to charge my cup heater. My cup heater is 36W,and it keep running from morning to night. So far, automatic cut-off has not occurred.

Wow, that had to be a very difficult review to make. Like you had to force yourself to keep going after the terrible AC resting draw.

This removable battery 'energy bar' idea is kind of slick, but i think they should have dropped each to 160w as this is the maximum allowed on commercial airliners for removable batteries, might also allow for better cooling if they were the same height but narrower, but would make it harder to make an inverter that slaps on the end of the bar.

Actually it's 99wh max on an airplane unless you get special permission.

Too bad the inverter is so inefficient. At high output, the batteries overheat and at low output the inverter sucks all the power. I was hoping for something that improved upon the old Ryobi 40v system I have. Its inverter is high overhead as well. It is fine for powering my 120v tools in the back yard, but not a low power dorm fridge. I was right with you until your "but is it any good?" The system without the host engine seems reasonable. It sounds like they need to totally redesign the host.

Runhood sounds more like what you would name a political party than it does the name of a power station.

Great concept, bad execution. Too many cons with this unit. I feel it needs more battery capacity for the 1200W inverter, maybe 500W bars. and the AC power draw is ridiculous.
