It also happened in the Binghamton, NY a few years ago. Fortunately the car did stop on its own after traveling several miles. I believe it was a LP gas car. Most people in the area considered them selves lucky as it was traveling through a city area.

This actually happened on the Harrisburg line. a tanker car on the back of an ESPN train ran at 50mph down the line. dispatch luckily cleared all signals ahead and eventually they got it to stop. thankfully the car only had candle wax so if it derailed the area would smell like someone's grandmother.

Things like this do happen, but not all in one incident. This is the "Christine" of railroad cars! It just won't quit or die. It violates the laws of physics - gets down to sea level, then miraculously ascends back inland again! A point about how railroads are set up: Once a you start down an industrial track or branch it usually comes to a dead end, especially when the track gets into the weeds and starts looking abandoned (part 3). Also, one would think a dispatcher would eventually be told to route the car into a siding where it would be allowed to derail, since it looks like there were no active placards showing it to be a hazmat load.

This also happened in the city of Tacoma Washington (in the late 1980's or early 1990's) where the train crew was spotting a boxcar at the steel casting company between South Tacoma Way and Center street on Wilkeson street when it got away from them and rolled down those tracks, all the way THROUGH THE MIDDLE OF THE BUSY CITY DURING THE NORMAL WORK DAY crossing over Pacific avenue heading towards the mainline that runs along the waterfront, which it did make it to, where it then came off the tracks destroying itself. They estimate it reached speeds of 70mph coasting downhill when it crossed over the busy main street arterial Pacific avenue. It hit no one!!! You know where the federal court house is that used to be the passenger train Union station there on Pacific avenue in downtown Tacoma??? Those tracks used to cross Pacific avenue at an angle right to the north there just before S.15th street. Those tracks used to be connected to and were the north end start of the South Tacoma sub which is the same line where the new commuter train went barreling off the tracks a couple of years ago killing two riders on that inaugural run. They were connected right above Pacific avenue right behind the Mission by King's drive in restaurant curving to the north there and continuing downhill past the City shops and the old Carling Heidelberg brewery (now an upscale growing college & bar district) through a small industrial section of the city to the mainline connecting at the waterfront level not far from the large grain export facility also along the waterfront. Anyway the event made the local paper and even had a statement from the BNSF spokesman who admitted that "today they were very lucky that nobody was killed or there wasn't more property damage". THIS WAS A BIG DEAL and as far as I remember the railroad had to take steps to assure it wouldn't happen again. Which because they eliminated the connection when building the new commuter light rail line, that freight line today ends well up the hill just west of M street. Now they have to come around from the other end in south Tacoma sub freight spur that no longer connects to downtown, assuring that indeed, it can't happen ever again.

In total he traveled over 60 miles! The police couldent get to him most of the time due to the line he was on went into some really rural areas and the roads were not close.

In the early 1900's a box car somehow ended up loose in a little rural town called Kingsley and started rolling North. It traveled about 25 miles into Traversecity. Most of its trip was rural. Notification was given a boxcar was traveling at substantial speed into Traversecity and police were able to stop traffic into town ,preventing any vehicle ,railroad accidents. The boxcar ended up smashing its way through an ice house at the end of the line, destroying that and several outbuildings at the end of the spur. Switching had to be done to prevent the boxcar from destroying other buildings and a round house. I read about this incident doing research on a little town called Mayfield. Mayfield was a lumbering town depot and stagecoach line before the railroad had been built. I was pretty suprised at both. I had found several coins dated in the 1860's at Mayfield but history stated there were no rail lines until the late 1890's through that area.

This happens again and again because cars are left unguarded This is why the main is always higher than a siding, so that the cars will not run uphill onto the main Even scarier is the fact that trains now are left idling for as long as three days because there is only one person driving the entire train and they have cut the crew down to where there is no one available typically for 24 hours and as long as 72 hours So the train sits idling on a siding, unguarded It is only sheer luck that we have not had a train stolen Many of these unguarded trains are tank trains carrying petroleum like the one in Canada that wiped out of town Others are filled with liquefied petroleum, gasoline, or other hazardous chemicals In the quest for more profit the owners and board members and shareholders of rail companies are endangering the lives of every American And when the unthinkable happens they will blame the lack of mental health and the person who commits the crime and no one will hold the company accountable for the situation they created we had one of the neighborhood associations in New York that complain to the media about this and the rail company sent the FBI to intimidate the neighborhood association The neighborhood association was forced to disband Several of the neighbors were so afraid that they put their houses on the market and sold them and left the state Typically they would stick for engineers into a crappy motel roomand then send them by taxi 4 hours in each direction to pick up there trains sitting on sidings They were miserable and whensomeone from the media asked why they were doing this instead of having enough engineers to take the trains they said that they expect to have fully automated trains by 2022and they were just filling the Gap till they could get approval for fully automated computer control trains with no one on board this is an alarming trend that every corporation as working towards doing and they expect to be able to eliminate 60% of the workforce by 2022 Without UBI there is going to be over 150 million homeless people by 2023 We are already a third world country but we are going to look like Africa and South America after Trump second-term People will be eating their pets We already have 20 to 30 people living in single-wide trailers, because no airport is me can afford the rent working 2 jobs I never thought I would see this happen to our country We have an upper 10% that has 90% of the wealth in the country For them life is great but for the bottom 60% they can't even afford a basic apartment I wish the government would offerpeople money to be sterilized and never have children If they would just pay people$2,000 a month to not have children we could reduce the population to where there aren't more people than there are jobs and all of the illegals pouring over the border the company's love because they can get them for $0.50 an hour which makes the problem exponentially worse but increases the stock price And the government worries about when the oppressed minorities are going to take over Right now it is the greatest fear of every Governor every Mayer and every law enforcement agent They all say the one thing they're trying to do is to prevent an uprising I have never been this depressed in my entire life I turn on the news and I have panic attacks I watched as a heavily-armed black man shot six police officers I'm now watching as thousands of black people are demanding his release and hundredss of thousands of black people saying that killing the police needs to be done and that there is nothing wrong and you should not go to jail for killing the police Every major city is like this now a full-blown war zone I was told by several agents that Philadelphia and Pittsburgh are "lost" They have given up on these cities It is merely a matter of limiting the damage on a daily basis instead of trying to enforce the laws the Philadelphia legislature has demanded the removal of all bulletproof glass from businesses in Philadelphia so that the black people can resume killing all the shop owners Over 3,000 people are killed in Philadelphia every year And every single casethe DA has said they can't prosecute because every one of them all of the witnesses are murdered before they can testify He said it is the biggest problem they face in prosecuting crimes the US District attorney is rightfully angry with and disgusted with the mayor and the district attorney in Philadelphia because they are promoting lawlessness I am disabled and I was approved for 24 hour care but the county was unable to find one single person to come and take care of me because they don't take care of people they sit with the person they're supposed to be caring for and do drugs and drink beer and commit robberies The agency stole$300,000 from the county on my account because they said they were sending people and they weren't and when I asked the county if they were going to take charges against them they said what's the point LOST We are descending into Africa with corruption and crime just like they have By 2030 there will only be 20% of America still Americans I wish I was well enough that I could move to Canada I really wanted to move to China but they have a very strict policy on not allowing in anyone who is not contributing something that China needs Most countries have a very strict immigration policy but not the United States Very sad

It was summer of 2019. A UTLX Tank Car #58221 was sitting on a siding outside a small railroad depot. Then, a mysterious figure came into the siding and released the handbrake on the tank car. The tank car started to roll away down the track towards the mainline and the mysterious figure walked away from the scene. The tank car ran through crossings, yards, towns, along a coastal run, and then enters the mainline. Will tank car stop or keep running until it crashes? That’s gonna have to wait until next time. *To Be Continued*

Even without brakes a car won't just spontaneously roll on a level grade - there has to be some sort of slope, even the slightest. Also at 8:55, the target aspect is wrong. The car is rolling out of a block and the target is displaying a green aspect. Should have been red.

  • @ralfie8801

TheSteamtrain 6845 New nuclear fuel is transported on trucks, not by rail. You couldn't blow it up if you wanted to. It comes in pellet form and can actually be safely handled with your bare hands. It has to be loaded in the reactor vessel and irradiated with used fuel to become dangerous. That is one reason why when a nuke is refueled, they only change about a third of the fuel load, and it's the polyester third of the fuel load. Spent fuel can be handled by rail, but it's in almost indestructible concrete casks, not tank cars.

When those wonder how the tank car was tampered with when those didn't show how the hand brake was released when the tank car was moving on its own when those also wonder if the noise was the wheels rolling on the rails was enough for some crossing gates to be activated as there could be cases motorists who were stopped at a crossing had a way to get the tank car stopped not before a 911 dispatch center would likely have the switchboard lit up like a Christmas tree.

I was running a train over the Bethlehem steel crossing, and then I saw the gates go down. I didn't hear a train, I thought it was a hi rail truck, but instead, I saw this tanker car roll past my train so I radioed the yard tower Tellin them they had a loose tanker, and I had the gustavtime train connected to mine, I saw a switch, and I got out, unhooked the trains, and whent after the tanker

In my time as a professional rail worker I have seen cars get away from a crew. This, however is deliberate. In order for this to happen someone had to take off the brakes deliberately. In order to get it out of the siding they had to remove the derailment feature. Again s deliberate act then they had to actually lone the tank car out of the siding. Each one of these is a 10 year federal felony crime if someone Is injured or dies as a result of these crimes. Also once the dispatcher becomes aware that they have unauthorised movement he can line that car into a stub track and let it go on the ground. Most industries and track control points are on remote controlled.recorded camera. So they will know. Who, what. Where and when. Enjoy your time in prison.

How did this car trigger crossing gates? It didn't make contact more than a split second. There just happened to be no other trains on the main the entire time? It apparently jumped one switch without derailing, maybe that's possible but it seems the route was aligned for it. Why didn't Traffic control see it on their screens? If this is a game, why is there no interaction? I don't get it.
