    Thanks for the video. This was helpful. I recommend you add “unraid” to the video title to make it easier to find. I was looking for a videos describing this process in simple terms, and you did exactly that. Would have been easier to find if “unraid” was included in the title. Thanks again.

    Hmm I can access my content and thumbnails of plex server but can't access the video thru browser nor thru roku. I copied files via smb share to unraid nas but apparently my plex app cannot access those video files in the shared media folder. Happen to know where I should start with that?

    When you say you can access your content and thumbnails of the Plex server, but you can't access the videos, are you saying your Plex Server is showing the titles and poster in your app or browser, but the video isn't playing when you tell it to play the movie?

    Why did you switch to linuxserver's Plex from your plans to use binhex's? Which one is better?

  • @Filamoremedia

    I realized I didn't bring that up on this video. Thanks for catching that. I decided to use linuxserver's Plex template to keep the template visually more simple without the other fields (for GPU transcoding). I know I could have just deleted those other fields, but I was going to explain why I chose linuxserver's template instead, and looks like I failed to provide that explanation. As far as which is better, I don't think you can go wrong with either of their templates. They both keep their Docker Hub's up to date and they're well managed. Between the two though, if I were setting up GPU transcoding, I'd use Binhex's since the fields are already there. So I guess it's just a matter of convenience. Hope that answers your question.

    I couldn’t get Binhex’s container to work. I used the official container and it worked first time, but also had issues where it happily migrated my metadata from my Synology, but is unable to view any new content, even with shares set to public. They all seem pretty rubbish. I’m going to end up moving it to a dedicated NUC and bare metal install.

    Hi there! Thanks for the comment and question. Honestly, it was really just a matter of preference and oversight haha. Whenever I install new containers/apps, I always look for binhex, Hotio, or Linuxserver templates just because they seems to be the most maintained.

    Hi there! Thanks for the comment/question. You can totally install Plex Media Server on a Windows 10 or 11 VM. Although, I've heard of other people having mixed results using Windows for a Plex Media Server. But it sounds like things are getting better with it. If you plan on transcoding with a GPU (ie. not with QuickSync), make sure you don't forget to pass it through to your VM.

    I just ordered a Beelink S12 Pro mini pc. I’m so clueless on what to do to start my own server from scratch. The mini PC comes with a 500gb m.2 drive. I’m adding a 4TB 2.5 SSD to it. Do you have a tutorial on Unraid? Can I use Unraid? I also have lifetime PlexPass. I want to make it as automated as possible (Sonarr and such).

    I'm new to Unraid and trying to migrate my Plex installation on a Windows machine to the Unraid server I just built. Why would you choose an unofficial repository over the official one? What benefit is there? Do the authors add features or fix issues that Plex won't?

  • @Filamoremedia

    @Filamoremedia

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi there! Thanks for watching. Honestly, it's all preference and convenience. Some of the other templates contain more of the variables or settings than the official one does. For example, the Official Plex template does not have the variables to set up hardware transcoding (NVIDIA_DRIVER_CAPABILITIES and NVIDIA_VISIBLE_DEVICES) but the "binhex-plexpass" template does. Of course, if you know the variables that need to be added, you can certainly add the variable and the values to the Official Plex template. Then it doesn't really matter. When choosing between unofficial templates though, I tend to stick with my top 3 authors of linuxserver.io, binhex, and Hotio. The reason for that is because they keep their templates and repos updated regularly. I hope this answers your question.
