In my opinion the writer, Sir John Mortimer, was a master storyteller and his wit was stellar.
Rumpole has lunch with his son Nick, the brains of the family and clears a teenager later on in the show, not shown here.
Rumpole books are really good. Casting for this is excellent, but I'd like the whole episode.

Yes. Exactly right for a schoolboy of that era especially if you were a bit of a larrikin. The fringe was a nod to the popstars of the time, which would have passed the headmaster's scrutiny and scissors.
At least it gives us a taste
