Ha ! I've just found this channel. What you volunteer guys and girls at RLR have achieved over the last 40 years is nothing short of astonishing. Shamefully, I have to confess that the last time I rode the railway was probably circa 72-73 when it was a short dogbone loop. Entrance to the Lido from Park Wood was via a green turnstile, close to what is now Woody Bay station, where we were probably charged, I don't know, 5 or 10 new pence to enter this 'magical playground'. There was actually a woman sitting in the iron pill box taking the money and handing out tickets. The whole place stank of decay - I don't remember the Art Deco pavillion on the opposite shore, where the carvery is now, ever being open. What I do remember from those times is that waterskiing was still a big thing on the reservoir. There was a massive jump-ramp permanently anchored out in the middle and two beautiful Riva speed boats - one dark blue, the other maroon - would growl up and down the water towing their victims. A few years later, after finishing our rounds as paperboys in the area, we'd cycle down through the woods and ride our bikes on the frozen fringes of the reservoir just off the beach. And all this before cycling two miles home, having some breakfast and then peddling to school. Ah, the memories. Thanks for the great work you RLR'ers are doing and I'll work backwards through all the videos.
