These guns have gotten so expensive now. It's almost criminal to have a plastic rod in there! I am looking for a handgun and have many of the same issues your wife seems to have. I truly appreciate your video!

I've had one for years. My first pistol purchase. It doesn't feel like a toy pistol and shoots great. I've done no upgrades to mine just simply maintain it. 0 misfires in nearly ten years of owning it. I would definitely trust it with my life. I've always used good bullets though. Cci or Winchester 40 grain hollow points. Accurate enough I could keep a can in the air for a full clip. Ten round magazine is my only complaint recently swapped to a Beretta m9_22 for the 15 round clip. I prefer 22 for everyday carry cause I don't have to worry about shooting through my aggressor and hitting anything else. Real nice gun.

I bought a SR22 about 5 years ago and have put over 1000 rounds thru it and have never had any issues with it. When I bought it I had read about complaints on the guide rod but mine still looks like new so I am not to concerned about that. But I had never heard of a complaint on the ejector so seeing your video I checked mine and sure enough mine also has that burr which will soon be removed. Great video.

I enjoyed your video and your honest opinions. I bought an SR 22 years ago for my daughter when she started shooting. To be honest though, I have probably shot more rounds thru it than she has. It is a very fun gun to shoot and fortunately, we have never had a single issue with it.

Forgot to mention - excellent video. After watching it, I checked my SR and sure enough, there was a burr on the extractor slot on the barrel. Fixed it (I hope). Many thanks.

FYI TandemKross makes this spring rod using stainless steel. I picked one up at Optical Planet for $17.49 as they are on sale with free shipping. TandemKross also makes a five round magazine extension for SR22 called the Wingman. It turns the 10rd magazine into a 15rd magazine. Again Optical Planet has these on sale for $19.50 with free shipping. I bought three because I carry my SR22 when riding my bike I always try to have 20 to 30rds with me. Enjoy your Ruger it is a fun gun to shoot

I have a pretty good "casing extraction" issue and luckily a very minor "feed" issues. I've tried several ammo types and even tried the polishing fix!! Brassstacker was out of stock on the spring rod, so went ahead and bought the "Sentinel" Captured Spring Rod and replacement “Green Springs” Magazine Springs from TandemKross. Hope all my SR22 problems go away. I bought my SR22 in 2013, and only used 3-4 times with close to 1000 rounds total. This week, I was near trading it in because of the unreliability issues.

I had tons of failures to feed with the crappy plastic guide rod. I got the basic uncaptured steel one because it's cheaper than captured and honestly easier to clean imo.... then I went out and shot off a few hundred with no hangups, even with garbage ammo like winchester x or federal bulk..... NOICE

I have a Ruger SR22, it is a great shooting little pistol and is the most comfortable gun I have ever held. The first thing I did to it was replace the polymer guide rod. I went with the Galloway Precision stainless guide rod and recoil spring. The one thing mine has an issue with, you can't shoot CCI Stingers or Federal Punch, after you have shot standard length 22lr, until you clean the chamber. Oh shoot, you are in Arkansas and you know the ORV park.👍 Looks like I found another channel that isn't posting videos anymore.🤦‍♂ I lived in Hot Springs, AR from 2000 to 2010...

I actually had the reverse problem. I got an SR22, and didn’t like the idea of a plastic guide rod, so I got a stainless captured spring rod from tandemkross. The gun would not fully cycle with cheap bulk ammo. It would eject, but the slide wouldn’t travel far enough to pick up another round. I put the original plastic one back in, and it is flawless with everything I put in it. The tandemkross rod has a double spring, and it seems to be stronger than the original.

  • @LifeisaHighwayRV

Sounds like the Double Spring may be to strong or stiff. The Brass Stacker only has one. If you'd like a metal rod it might be worth trying. Thanks for watching and appreciated the comment.

After watching all the videos on the low quality SR22 factory recoil spring, I purchased a captured recoil spring from Tandemkross for $19.95 plus delivery charge. I also noticed that the tops of the magazines were a little too tight and causing some failure to feed issues. I used a flat one inch pry bar to open the magazine tops a hair and not only do the cartridges load more easily, the gun performs flawlessly with any ammo.

I agree completely how about not advertising I have a 40 caliber full size that gun is so heavy and I got a concealed holster and it absolutely sucks. I think that's a great solution and I was really looking at upgrade for something I was purchasing for my wife and I feel good about that for her the Ruger SR22 sounds like a good fit. I'll make sure she gets an upgrade like you did with with your wife's thank you sir.

One more thing I like about my SR22 is the double action trigger. I keep mine with 1 in the chamber and 10 in the clip and if I ever need to use it quick all I have to do is flip the safety up with my thumb & pull the trigger and it’ll fire. I don’t have to rack it in order to fire it.

I guess I got lucky mine runs like a fine tuned machine I really love shooting it I got Glocks, Sig's, revolvers nothing is as fun as this little guy, people have to dry clean these pistols with birchwood casy and then lubricate them with a bit of break free clp because it won't allow that dirty 22 ammo to gum up it stays fluid and don't fling off as well like rem oil but I still use rem oil just to spray a mist over it for polishing, none of my guns fail or malfunction

It's smaller on one end. If the small end is forward it will drag on your guide rod and cause the problems you were having.
