    Honest question. Why won't you guys upload the full game? You uploaded the Eng-NZ semifinal soon after the tournament ended yet it is approaching two years and still no final. Is this another example of World Rugby disrespecting South Africa or English bitterness?

    Congratulations South Africa. Undoubtedly the best team on the day won by playing passionate, physical rugby and scoring two genuinely world class tries. We all know how much this means to the country, and it is inspiring to see how a sporting institution that once represented prejudice and the apartheid-era has evolved into a beacon of diversity, acceptance and unity. Of course, a few games of rugby will never solve all the problems in a country, but it is a symbol of progress and a testament to the power of sport. To England: hold your heads with pride. You played a fantastic world cup, and delivered the greatest performance ever produced by an English rugby team with your semi-final win against New Zealand. We all knew how close the tournament would be - and this was exemplified by the fact that neither Eng, SA, nor NZ could beat both other sides. Finally, I think every rugby fan from around the world can agree that the country of Japan was truly an incredible host. The Brave Blossoms delighted millions not only with the major scalps they took, but in the manner in which they took them: via flowing, expansive rugby. Further, despite the tragic destruction and loss of life caused by Typhoon Hagibis during the tournament, the people of Japan never failed to embrace the hundreds of thousands of World Cup tourists and provide a level of hospitality we rarely, if ever, see in the West. In my humble opinion, this was the greatest Rugby World Cup of all time. F***, I love rugby.

    Antonio De Castro I’m no boet, you are talking to a lady. And I’m not in denial about SA, I just choose to focus on all the good we have going on more than I do the bad. I am black and I can honestly say that I don’t know anybody in my immediate or extended family or my friends who has ever had a violent crime committed against them. Sure I hear a lot in the news, but I hear a lot in the news in America too everyday. Whatever stats you’re looking at, actually being in America and looking at stats is very different. Because I’ve seen both sides, I have noticed that black South Africans and white South Africans have different stories mostly when it comes to crime. White South Africans always talk about crime, and I think it’s because criminals target you more. But if we are being absolutely honest (since you brought up the idea of not being in denial), the fact that you’re targeted more is a consequence of apartheid and all the negative impacts it had on black people from their psyche to being physically segregated and not being afforded opportunities (there’s something about being treated like an animal that turns people violent, and that’s why you see that the countries where black people were enslaved like America and SA through apartheid, black people there are the most violent. It has trickled down through the generations. Black people in African countries that have been mostly conflict-free are very peaceful). You cannot expect to peacefully live in a country where 10% of people own 80% of everything and think you won’t be targeted. Part of moving forward is for white South Africans to acknowledge that. As long as you don’t acknowledge it, you will always complain about crime, always be building higher and higher walls and desperate people will just get higher and higher ladders to get in and forcefully take what they want. Secondly in America, depending on who you ask, it’s the same as SA. Black people here feel more targeted by the police for violence. Literally every other month there’s a crazy cop with a gun killing black people for no reason. Lots of people talk about living in fear because you don’t know when the next gunman will show up. Some people even avoid festivals altogether now because mass shooters love those. Statistics don’t mean anything because the people that do those stats are not really on the ground in every country living our reality everyday. I have lived in both SA and the US, and I frequent SA a lot even now and I can comfortably say that I always feel safer when I’m in SA. I feel more targeted as a black person when I’m in the US. Your experience is opposite, you feel very much targeted in SA, which is why crime is always a topic of discussion with you. That’s your truth. My truth about South Africa is completely different from yours.

  • @RSAkimmaps87

    @RSAkimmaps87

    4 жыл бұрын

    Antonio De Castro like I said, your truth is your truth. My truth is mine. I don’t depend on the UN stats for my truth. I depend on my own experiences and from my experience, I am safer in SA than the US. I don’t know the black South Africans that you know but I can guarantee you that I know MORE black South Africans than you do and so I would say that puts me in a better position to talk about what black South Africans say about crime, what we talk about in our houses daily. And I can guarantee you that we don’t go on about crime like you do. The biggest crime black people complain about is gender based violence. The rest of these robbery type of crimes don’t affect us at the same rate that they affect you. They do affect our communities, but not nearly as much as they affect yours. That is why you never hear black people getting outraged on a national scale and demanding the government do something unless it’s another case of gender based violence. That’s because that’s what mainly affects the black community. You don’t hear black people uniting on a national scale and going to social media demanding change or protesting on the streets about other crimes like home/farm invasions, carjackings etc. That’s because even though it affects us, it doesn’t affect us anywhere near the level it affects you. Those criminals mostly target white communities. That means black communities are actually safer (not entirely safe), but safer because we are less targeted by such crimes. So if you’re lucky enough as a black woman to have non-abusive man around you, you can mostly live your life without being touched by violence. Unless you get targeted by a stranger, which is rare because most of these crimes are mostly committed by the women’s intimate partners. The stats by South Africans (not by UN) is that every 24 hours, 2 or 3 women are killed by an intimate partner. That means in a year, there are about 700-1,000 women who die this way. That’s really bad, but considering there’s about 30 million women in SA, there’s way more women who are safe than those who are in danger. But because it affects young black women on a regular basis, of course we are outraged and we want change because we sympathize and we see ourselves in those women. So we do wonder if we are next. Now the other problems that I mention affect white people more. And like I said, it’s a by-product of apartheid. Your ancestors committed massive crimes against my ancestors. That is a fact. Whatever injustices you feel like you’re enduring will never amount to the injustices suffered by my people at your ancestors’ hand. We are still dealing with the consequences of those actions today, but we are resilient and so we fight on. But to be honest with you, when we sit in our houses and have table talk, black people are very angry at the injustices we have suffered through the generations at white people’s hands. Even today we suffer those injustices. Like when those university boys made our mothers who work on their campuses drink urine a few years ago, or the footage of white policemen training their dogs by making them chase and bite black young men in the 90s. Those monsters are still alive and well. Such things outrage us. That’s why whenever a racist comes out of the woodwork, we want them named and shamed and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. You see, when black South Africans are truly affected by an issue, whether it’s demanding that universities reduce school fees like that Fees must fall movement, we mobilize and demand change and we refuse to be silent. If we are mostly quiet about it, it’s because it doesn’t affect us on a large scale.That is why you see young black South Africans voting to keep Malema relevant and in parliament. No denying he is a wild card but he touches on a lot of issues that hit a nerve with young black people who live in the shadow of what was done to their forefathers during apartheid and want to see some change in their lifetimes. Black people are angry, that is why even though you are human beings, it’s hard for us to sympathize with your plight. We don’t get involved when you go on about crimes that mostly affect you, we only mobilize when it comes to things that personally affect us, like gender based violence. That is a fact. Don’t ask a day laborer what black people think. Walk into a university campus and sit with young black people, go into their homes and share a meal with them on a regular basis, then you will begin to really know what we care about and what we don’t care to get involved in.

    @@RSAkimmaps87 " I don’t depend on the UN stats for my truth. I depend on my own experiences and from my experience, I am safer in SA than the US. " The UN crime stats for each country are provided by the respective governments of those countries, so the stats that show that that SA has a 6 times higher murder rate than the US and 170 times higher murder rate than Japan are South African government stats. To repeat, according to UN/SA government stats black people suffer higher rates of murder and rape than their white compatriots. Clearly you a very privileged compared to most South Africans, but just because you seemingly went to university and have the extreme privilege of being able to work in the US, that doesn''t make you any better than the people that you refer to as "day labourers". What appalling elitism and arrogance! I prefer to rely on facts and not the feelings of someone who regards her views as more important than those of a "day labourer" and clearly rationalises violence against race groups other than their own. Based on your post, the difference between you and I is that I am concerned about all South African victims of violent crime and not just those who share my skin colour, level of education, gender or perceived social status. You have made it clear that you are only concerned with rape and murder of people who share your gender and race (a view shared by the architects of Apartheid you claim to despise), and don't care about the suffering of other race groups or black people that you perceive as inferior to you ( what you term " day labourers"). It may come as a surprise to you that I do not accept that merely because you are a black woman you are a spokesperson for all black South Africans. This part of your post speaks volumes about your, callous and elitist views: "Don’t ask a day labourer what black people think. Walk into a university campus and sit with young black people, go into their homes and share a meal with them on a regular basis, then you will begin to really know what we care about and what we don’t care to get involved in." What you care about, and what you don't care to get involved in, is made abundantly clear from your post. You care about about young black woman, who have had the privilege of going to university and are fortunate enough to work or study in the United States, something that the majority of South Africa's population (and in particular "day labourers") can only dream of. It may come as a shock to you, but your views, and those of other university students, are no more important than those of what you refer to as "day labourers". In fact I am far more interested in the views of my immensely decent, hard working black colleagues who pay the taxes that make university education possible. Its ironic that you look down on the "day labourers" that made it possible for you to go to university. By the way, my black colleagues include "day labourers", technicians, university graduates and political appointees, and I do regularly share meals with them, occasionally in their or my homes. Maybe you should try and do the same; it may open your eyes to the fact that people are people and you may even develop some compassion for people of a different race or class. "But to be honest with you, when we sit in our houses and have table talk, black people are very angry at the injustices we have suffered through the generations at white people’s hands." To be honest with you, I would, and do, trust my life to black people on a weekly basis, and I can assure you that the average hard working black South African is a kind, tough, generous individual, who does not hold any animosity towards me because of my skin. That kind of bigotry is a luxury that seemingly only young university students can afford. Just like I cant speak for all white people, you most certainly don't speak for all black people. I could care less for the anger of a young person that is angry with me purely because of my skin colour and what my ancestors did to there ancestors. Lastly, it is the ultimate euphemism to refer to Malema as a "wild card". A person who proudly proclaims that committing racial genocide (of any race) is a viable solution to the problems of this country, is not a "wild card" but a cowardly, delusional racist. I truly hope you one day learn to judge people by their character and not their skin colour, class or educational level.

    South Africa was never expected to win the 2019 world cup. From day one, they were never the favourites !! Some commentators said that they had an outside chance but these same commentators doubted it ! It is the humbleness and humility that the coach, the captain and all those South African players displayed that pushed them over the top. They believed but in a quiet, non arrogant way that they could do it !! It really is a beautiful story of a people that could dig deep without screaming and shouting that they were the best !! All those interviews by the coach, the captain and some of the players showed us all what humility and not having to be in the limelight all the time can achieve. Thoroughly enjoyed that final and started following all the South African matches from the quarters on. They were the team to watch. Well done South Africa, what a class act !! I am an avid New Zealand citizen who loves his rugby but this display of humbleness by the South Africans even made me cry !!

    To be humble and confident at the same time. To be diverse and have unity is the magic of rugby and something RSA and New Zealand have in common. This is why so many South Africans are all black fans and so many kiwis are South African fans. We are cut from the same cloth and the only thing better than beating Australia is beating England. Well done South Africa, I have never seen so many kiwis pack out a bar to cheer on a team in a game we had no skin in. England gave us a game we had no answers to, and South Africa gave England a masterclass in technical rugby, humility and humanity.

    All three of the Springboks World Cup final victories have been built on defence. South Africa's organisation, discipline and ferocity on defence is unparalleled in World Cups. Our coaches occasionally forget that and try to turn the Springboks into the All Blacks or France, and it fails miserably every time. I love our Springbok style of rugby and hope Rassie has now convinced future coaches not to mess with it.

    Not the first time that’s happened, in 1999 France beat the ABs and lost the final, 2003 Australia beat them and lost the final, 2007 1/4 final France beat them and lost the semi-final. So maybe beating the All Blacks comes at a heavy physical and mental cost. Regarding 1991, Australia at the time, were the best team in the world so they had another gear to go to after the NZL game.
