Hey, Rufus, I remember Jessye Norman doing Schoenberg's "Erwartung" (and "Gurrelieder:" and Stravinsky's "Oedipus Rex" and Renée Fleming has done many new operas, though I'll also go with Berlioz.

think Rufus meant to say prolific there and not precocious - although he was that too! As usual I am dazzled by this man.

He says, "It has been a "HUGE" success." No it wasn't. The house was half empty when I saw him in on a solo tour in Phoenix. And the reviews were not glowing, either. Read the reviews in the Washington Post: his tour was called "inaccessible" and the opera was widely panned as mediocre. I think Rufus is a risk taker for sure and great. But he's also a ruthless self-promoter who is a desperate narcissist.

You got a problem with his self-promotion? It's what you need to do in the business of music. However, keep in mind that rather than being "desperate" or a wild narcissist, he is a musician to his bones. His courage in trying all things, knowing he could get badly panned, is actually rare when you're listening to this business of music talking in your ear. Rufus has shown he will learn from all his experiences, good and bad.

By the way, he says his PIANO and SONG solo shows were "a Huge success" in Europe.

Show me a great artist who ISN'T a desperate narcissist. There is so much disinterest, criticism and dismissal thrown at people. You have to have a desperate need to be heard and a fanatic belief in your work's importance to push you to succeed or you won't get anywhere.
