I love how welcoming the Belchers are as soon as they see Rudy. In general, I love how Bob and Linda know all of their kids' friends and how much they all mean to them (even though Bob despises Jimmy, he's still nice to his kids and treats them with respect. The only one I think they don't like is Tammy because she's just a brat who doesn't respect anyone)

But can we really _count_ Tammy as one of the kid's FRIENDS?

Another beautiful detail of that episode is that at dinner, even though they are celebrating Gene for improving his grade, he gives his place to Rudy, sitting in the guest chair, and Gene calls him little brother.

But even when Tammy stayed with them they took care of her better than her own parents like how do you forget your daughter on a cruise?!?

Louise just caught on like that. Her relationship with Rudy stands out so much as he's the only person she "wants" to be friends with.

I feel so bad for the kid! He's dealing with so much and he does his best to keep a strong front up. He's a really kind person and tries to brighten people's day with his magic tricks. Louise being there for him is so sweet. Her strong personality perfectly compliments his kind nature. I think Rudy is the only person Louise hasn't intentionally messed with lol. Even when she got them all "arrested" for stealing a bounce house. She thought Rudy would love it as much she did. But then she realized all he really wanted to do for his birthday was have a puppet show. I'm glad they showed that if Rudy is having a hard time he can go hang out with Belchers. They had no problem letting him drop by and enjoy a weird dinner witn them. Bob's burgers is one of the best series ever!

Feel so bad for Rudy. He blames himself for his parent's divorce and maybe deep down he hopes they'll get back together. But seeing them with new partners along with him feeling he screws everything up. Louise is definitely the best friend for him, giving him the strength to keep going.

I showed this episode to my boyfriend (who is a magician and a child of divorce) and it made him tear up, it hit that close to home. Rudy is now his favorite side character in the show. I will forever love this show for not only how funny it is, but how honest and relatable it is.

This is one of my favorite recent episodes of Bob's Burgers. It was such a complete shift in tone from the usual episodes. I can't remember the last time they had an episode devoted exclusively to a side character, but this one was done so well. It not only shows you where Rudy is coming from in his personal life, but it also brings more characterization to the kind of person Louise truly is and it is just done so well!

This males me thinkamd headcanon that nearly all of the other kid's families that the belcher's regularly interact with are unstable or troubled in some way..over time they associate stability and warmth with the belchers. They dont have much, but they're always kind and are willing to provide and always give a kind haand to their friend's kids.

I never considered this. Zeke, Jimmy Jr/the twins, Rudy, all have divorced parents. Tammy's parents clearly don't like one another. Even a lot of the adults in their lives (Teddy, Mr. Frond, Gayle, Mickey, the list goes on) don't really have the most stable lives, and the Belchers still welcome these people into their lives.

Bob and Linda don't have much, but they're both great parents and friends. I like how they feel like a real long-term married couple that have disagreements but you can still tell they love each other wholeheartedly. A lot of couples on this show are either divorced (Teddy, Rudy's parents, the Pesto's, Zeke's parents), or clearly in domineering or unhappy marriages (Linda's parents, Tammy's parents, Logan's parents) but even though the Belchers don't have a lot of money, they have each other and that's enough

This episode was beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time, the way children deal with a hard reality that is not in their hands. It's a tough truth that reminded me of certain years in my childhood. To all the Rudys out there, it will be alright, do your best, be good, and keep strong. Better days are coming your way ❤

people disliking labels causes this. people do not want to marry because they think that they will be limited to a single group of people for the rest of their lives. people think that a relationship or marriage will be fun 24/7... they want nothing to do with hardships... but who really thinks about the kids who realize these things before the parents...?

I just adore Rudy and he is my most favorite supporting character in the show; so him getting is very own focus episode was a real treat for me, I mean the creators could have just as easily done a "A day in the life" episode all about Jimmy Jr. or Zeke instead which I'm really glad that they didn't. I think this episode was supposed to be about being a child of divorced parents and Rudy definitly fits that bill; Zeke and Jimmy Jr. who's parents are also not together would probably have been 2 good canidates for what it's like to be a kid with divorced parents, but in the end Rudy was the one chosen to be the secondary character who get's their own personal episode and I find that totally awsome. 😊

This can be relatable in other types of situations. Replace the kids with an adult who found out someone they’re in love with, yet never confessed feelings to, has a significant other whom was introduced in the dinner and the protagonist could pretend to go to the bathroom only to leave the restaurant crying and then bumping into a bar where his/her friends are in and make up a story until he/she slips up and confesses to the dinner situation and instead of he/she ordering an Uber or walking alone, one of the friends walk with him/her back to the restaurant giving advice.

Tell me about it!! In my opinion even Gene and Courtney made a much better couple then Tina and Jimmy Jr. ever could; and I was never really in favor for THAT pairing and prefer that those 2 just be friends, so the fact that there's much more Jimmy Jr. and Tina moments is rather monotonous for me.
