(Writing this before watching the video) I had to pause the episode after it happened to first cry, but then I spent around 45 minutes verbally overanalyzing just how deep Paul's story is. A man who never saw himself as a good person, a good father, or a good husband was able to die with a smile on his face because he had accomplished his goal of rescuing and reuniting his family. In doing so, he is finally able to view himself as a good person, a good father, and a good husband. The writing, from the groundwork and background to the follow-through, was impeccable. Lastly, I loved how they established that Paul was the only one who could do the setup for dealing lasting damage. So, after he sacrificed himself he probably, at least for a moment, thought that his sacrifice would cause the mission to fail, but Rudy steps up and performs Paul's job of setup. From a symbolic standpoint, this shows Paul that he is leaving his family in capable hands equal to his own.

Man I was so not emotionally prepared for this. I never cry, but even I had to take a moment to process what happened. I was hoping Rudy would pull an Orsted and heal Paul, I was waiting for the happy moment, but it never came. It truly was a turning point. Fuck you Mushoku Tensei, fuck you. Rudeus saw Paul like a close friend. That's a big reason why he was proud to be treated as a peer. That's also why he couldn't understand why Paul died for him. After comprehending that Paul truly saw him as his son, Rudy accepts him as his real father. Then he remembers how he failed his original parents as well. This breaks Rudy into pieces and he can't tell anyone why. It's like every time Rudy thinks he's finally grown since his past life he's brutally humbled and goes back to zero

This was definitely the most Heartbreaking episode not just for what happened to Paul (May he rest in Peace) but for what happened to Zenith too. 🙇🏿‍♂️

What I felt was the worst was the fact they couldn't even bring his body back for a proper funeral. They had to do an ad hoc cremation because no one was strong enough to haul Paul's body back to the surface. Norn is going to be absolutely devastated. 😢

you know what the most heart wrenching part of his death was? its that it was so quick, and not in a sense i didnt see it coming (like i know what i signed up for when i decided to watch mushoku tensei) but he dies, rudy realises it, everyone looks at him only a singular "why?" was uttered and they move on with a silent trek back home. There was no yelling by rudy, or using every healing spell or scroll at his disposal to save him albeit it would be a useless endeavor (but you know the troupe) it was acceptance of the death and damn i just have a pit in my stomach since that episode. He just met back up with paul, why did he have to go so quick. He'll never get to see rudy's home, the life he's built, he's grandchild and his own two young ones. Rudy's dream of having his whole family at the big dinner table got cut short, or in this case in half. Rip Paul, you weren't the best father but you were the father rudy needed.

better do it more often, one day you wake up and someone you know is gone, no more coming back. 99,9% dont realise that even tho they know, they dont live with that thought every day, if you keep that fucked up thing in mind, you will have no regrets at the end as you cherished everyone and told them so as well. me personally i was just sad cos they couldnt see their family growing up. so paul in this case told us his regrets, now just imagine feeling his regrets and projecting them irl. quite sad and depressing moment, given that it is warranted moment of real state of depression

a few details in the episode i liked: the way rudy shielded from the hydra's breath attack was the same way he shielded from the red dragon's breath. the position of rudy on the floor when he lost his arm is the same as the hallucination paul had after their fight in millis. idk if its just me but rudy's demon eye seems more vibrant than when he first got it. maybe it's the new season art changing or maybe its the result of it assimilating into him with age

​@@yhwach1I think this is a spoiler so Sometime ago, I saw an older picture of Rudy having 2 hands but upon further inspection it's possible that it's a magical implement as it's covered what looked like leather gloves. Maybe he would get it back, but never in the same way as a normal hand would. Maybe it's even possible to get it back via magic, but he would choose not to as penance for allowing his dad to get killed.

​@@yhwach1In s1 Orsted healed Rudeus' near death body so there definitely is very powerful healing magic out there. Though what we have seen most people aren't that talented to know such a high tier spells so finding someone to heal his hand would probably be pretty hard and even if they found someone it would probably be really expensive or something. There is also the possibility that after some research with the automaton they found at the beginning of this season they might be able to make some kind of magic prosthetic. Also a powerful healing spell is probably some secret information that countries hold so they have advantage over the others or something so finding someone who can do it is probably easier. And so far the only that competent mage that Rudeus has seen is Orsted, so maybe he is the solution? Though I'd imagine Rudeus to rather avoid him if possible, he probably doesn' want to risk his life to heal his arm.

discovered your content recenlty and wanted to say thanks for covering the stuff that i dont see as an anime only peorson.

This episode was so incredible. I've been watching animes for 18 years and reading mangas for 20.. And this fight, I think, reaches my top 5 ever. What impresses me the most is that it doesn't even have a top notch breathtaking level animation. We are not watching Demon Slayer or Jujutsu Kaisen here, in which every fight feels badass just because.. explosions of colors and stuff.. Nah, the fight here is breathtaking and let me spit out a "wow wow let me fucking breathe please" because of its rythm and pure events of action. You literally don't have time to catch your breath, it's that opressive. It doesn't feel like every anime fight where time seems to be in slowmo for you to be able to see every single movement : here, it really felt like it was in real time, and let me tell you that I have no doubt that if I was living in this anime, I would be dead sooooo fucking fast, because I struggled to catch everything that was happening there.. This, in a sense, felt so dreadfully realistic (in terms of rythm).

It was my first time hearing the CD drama and good lord that tore my heart out once again. The line delivery are absolutely crushing it, paul's frustration and regret are so palpable. Even when he delivered the line that his death is better than rudy dying it feels like hes so bitterly angry that he didnt get to survive to atleast see zenith rescued. Its just so sad that he lived his life up to that point with so much pain and agony just so he could reunite his family...

This was an extremely emotional and action-packed episode, I knew that someone was going to die but I wasn't ready for the outcome. 10/10 episode

It's human nature to prepare for the worst. Me as an introvert there are times some really dark thoughts occur and usually you think a lot of scenarios in your head when being alone. It's just the brain training you to handle for the worst. When I lost my dad everyone was emotionally broken except for me and yes it bothered me a lot but you do feel those emotions after some time or days or even months passes by and think back to the memories which you will never experience again. I think the same happened with Rudi.

This episode was awesome 👌

As a anime only fan, I was praying so hard that Paul was alright when he kicked Rudy away, but that scene was brutal. And the final scene with zenith was heartbreaking....

Normally, i watch anime laying down as i assume many also do. But when an episode goes as hard as this one, i always seem to be sitting up on the edge of the bed from the excitement.

I'm checking the episode and Paul specifically says "shindemo" (死んでも). If you look it up in a dictionary, "shindemo" seems like more of an idiom than a literal thing. Though we all know at this point it was probably meant to put a final death flag for Paul as a character, amongst the other less obvious ones so far in the season.

A father's day sad ending, showing that every moment, even brief, we spend with those around us should be cherished and thankful about. We dont know when we will see them for the last time 😢😢😢😢

I have never been this emotionally devastated by an episode of anime. I was legitimately crying for the whole rest of the episode when it happened, and then afterwards.

I knew this was coming and it still broke me a bit.

He rescued nearly every missing person from his village after the teleportation if they were alive and wanted rescuing. Screw that "in the end" crap. He goated himself LONG before his death 😤

paul was so badass during this fight I wish he was able to live but with some major injuries or something but it is what it is. RIP Paul Greyrat

I knew from numerous spoilers about Paul's death, but I was shocked how did this happen. As many people said in the comments Paul was amazing character. His developement throughout the story showed us broken man, who did what he could with the hand the world handed to him. From talented warrior and playboy to mature and determined man, who sacrificed his time and life for people he cared for - his family and most of villagers from Buena Village. One thing, which was probably good, was him not seeing in what state Zenith was after the rescue. But other than that his sacrifice was a big hit for everyone waiting for them. Even those two girls (those which Rudy mistakenly took as Pauls new lovers from previous part) respected him for what he did. He took a big burden upon himself, but delivered more than enough to earn utmost respect.

It was insane that they aired this particular episode on "Father's Day." RIP Paul Greyrat

Reading this whole arc in the LN was gut wrenching the first time, and even more so the second time. Guess what it was like watching it in anime form? The same.

I cried. It hit me hard. Unexpectedly so.
