Thank you for sharing your reaction, Yetti. No need to explain why you didn't love the song... the other songs are awesome and showcase the members better. As you noticed here, the group was designed with Taemin as the center, main dancer, main vocal. Obviously everyone in SuperM is exceptional: Baekhyun, Taemin, Kai, Taeyong, Ten, Lucas, and Mark are each phenomenal artists. Also, I grew up watching Ellen and for you younger generations, her humor can be an acquired taste. She really likes the guys and was not being rude, just trying to be funny. Too bad we don't get to see the behind-the-scenes because I'm sure the members had a blast with her. (She's fun to hang out with off camera.) Cool that Taemin was his gracious self 💜

I’ll never forget that taemin was so excited for this guesting but ellen basically showed him the worst time ever. He doesn’t deserve that. This is why a lot of kpop idols hate doing western interviews 😒

After that "why did I ask" scene, I absolutely love that Mark got no filter 🤣🤣🤣. Served her right. About Ellen, Kai actually mentioned that he was a bit disappointed about the interview(this was from a Korean variety show). He was expecting her to ask more about their songs or their group activity, but instead, she just asked if they were singles and not showing much interest in them.

I totally agree, Yetti. Ellen was a major disappointment in this interview and was beyond rude to the boys IMHO. No surprise her show will be ending soon - just sayin’. Back to “Jopping,” I also agree it isn’t the best song fit for their talents but it is what it is I guess. How dare she talk over Taem in the intros? Thank God for our savage Mark, she wasn’t expecting to be called out for inappropriate questioning.

I always feel a little sad that SuperM didn't get the appreciation they should get till this day because they really are the best honed gems and biggest asset to kpop individually. These boys really did their all by doing their group activities/solo and also gathering together for the fans for this great combination to create music. For me and for fans who have known kpop for years will understand what SuperM is. Well this interview was so disrespectful for boys, it looked really obvious that the staff/crew of th show knew nothing about them, atleast they would have appreciated their effort. Anyway as a long term SM artist fan I really really love them and support everything they do as they are the best and most humble and sweet and talented idols despite of their immense popularity in their groups and an individual in general.

Also don’t apologise! I don’t think Jopping is the best song they’ve released, but as a debut I love it for them lol… anyway Ellen sucks stan Mark Lee 😇

I think i'm the only one who genuinely loved Jopping from the minute it dropped i was there when it premiered..i think cause i have been exposed to the 2nd gen of kpop and the songs back then were pretty similar..sounded more like throwback to me sounded like it had a typical SM 2009-2012 feel to it .so maybe i can that was why i appreciated the song a little bit more..but i get it it's not for everyone but it sure is a grower ..mark's part hands down the best rap verse I've heard in kpop..the bars..you have to be cultured to know. Plus they have way better songs once you dive in deeper...

When we say Mark Lee is fully capable, we mean it. The amount of times Ellen has made many a guest uncomfortable with relationship questions is ridiculous and she never learned. Also, did no one brief her on Korean fandoms and how dating is massively taboo for an idol? It was a mess. I liked the performance of One they did on her show. If you've got the time etc, their capitol records showcase (their US live debut) was good, especially Supercar. SuperM title tracks are controversial and divide opinion (my personal nope song is 100) but GOODNESS their b-sides are so good. Love a honest opinion! Fun watch as always.

@@Yetti. What’s worse is she clearly didn’t care at all about doing her job as a host and interviewer. She asked no pertinent questions about their music or their debut in the US, and looked like she could barely be bothered to talk to them at all. It is singlehandedly the worst interview I’ve ever seen. The boys were so charming during the interview but she was the worst.

If it’s from Ellen, you should’ve watched I Can’t Stand The Rain… you missed the chance to see Taemin’s buttons coming off lol 😆 (AND the song & choreography are much better imo)

Kai said in an EXO interview later that he was so excited to be on Ellen and that he had practiced many questions but it was disappointing

Ellen’s energy was so trash this entire episode. I lost all interest in her after this, she was so low key rude to them. “ I can’t stand the rain” is a much better song… they did that here as well … check it out

Jopping was the debut song because of the concept, marvel. It’s not the best song but most of the songs are great. And yes taemin is the centre of the hole group, SM even wanted him to be the leader (he refused) nd he was the first one to know about the group

totally understand not loving jopping- this was actually not the full song! for me what really made the song was marks rap that they cut out for time (the iconic 8 second verse) but i understand not liking the lyrics etc they usually make lyrics in english less deep for popularity purposes- hype songs and flex songs do well in america so that's probably the reason !! anyways, i love your reactions !!!! thanks for your videooo

I became his number 1 fan immediately. then I watch his videos and fall even harder when I see him taking care of his cats, it was soft & adorable.

Jopping is the only commercial track for SuperM I will accept... maybe because of the Marvel sound/Marks verse I gave it a pass. At the end of the day the bills have to be paid so I understand. Every R&B/HipHop track is their sound. You should watch the concert of SuperM: Live From Capitol Records in Hollywood. You'd also like each persons Teaser trailer for SuperM. The second Kai's sharpie wrote the first 4 letters it was set in stone. No going back, mistake or not. Plus it's as factual as it gets for having 7 top tier artists in one group.

Unfortunately, SuperM's performance on Ellen isn't the best example of these songs or their performance. I love "Jopping" and SuperM's live performance of it is amazing, however, the video you watched was a recording from Ellen's talk show which was posted on Ellen's KZread Channel, so I'm pretty sure they muted the sound of the crowd. They did it so viewers can actually hear the song and enjoy the performance. That is also how they often record official DVD footage of concerts. They mute the sound of the crowd or lower the crowd noise and raise the volume on the voices of the singers and music. Because no one wants to watch an official performance video and all they hear is the crowd screaming. Most people come to watch the video to see and hear the performance of the people on stage. :D However, because this was a U.S. TV show, they didn't really understand the importance of being able to hear the audience when it comes to Kpop performances. Kpop video editors understand why they need to at least leaving the crowd interaction noise in the video even if it's only 20% of the volume because Kpop is all about the fan interaction elements. But I don't think Ellen's people were prepared for how passionate Kpop fans can be and the simplest solution was just to take all the crowd noise out. Which is kind of sad, because you miss something when its not the true performance. If you watched it when it aired live you would have heard their true live vocals, but because of the crowd and the poor sound system, I think they weren't sure how to handle it. (I'm not sure for "Jopping," but I know for the other song "Can't Stand the Rain" that they also performed on the show, that video they completely took out the live vocals and layered the the CD recording of the song on top of the video, so you aren't even hearing them singing.) So they had some "technical difficulties." ;P The space was too small and there were too many crazy passionate fans so it overwhelmed Ellen's sound system. Usually the sound tech on Ellen's show only needs to be high enough quality to pick up conversations, not amazing vocals and their crazy fans who want to blow the roof off the studio. LOL They Ellen's people weren't prepared to have to do any high tech sound mastering for this performance. :D All the high notes in "Jopping" are done by Baekhyun who is the leader and main vocalist of SuperM and one of the 3 main vocalists of EXO. Baekhyun is the one you will hear with the high note 95% of the time in SuperM -- every once in a while Ten or Taemin will accompany him on a high note, but he is always involved, that's pretty much his job in the group. The first high note you hear is part of the background vocals so you don't see him singing it, but the second note you see and hear him doing it live. Baekhyun is known for his high notes. The only one battling with falsettos in this song is Baekhyun trying to oneup himself. LOL Taemin does not have any standout high notes in this song. You should look up a lyric video so you can see who is singing each line of the song. The whole reason SuperM exists is to try and grab the U.S. market and bring Kpop more fully to the U.S., so they made an effort to establish themselves in the U.S. and get people who don't know Kpop to get to know them. Mark is the only fluent native English speaker in the group so he is most often the translator and interpreter for the rest of the members. However, Ten is pretty much fluent because he grew up attending an international school run by the British education system in Thailand, so he spoke English most of the time in school, and Lucas is also proficient -- but less confident -- in English because he is from Hong Kong and English is spoken as a second language a lot there. However, Ten and Lucas speak so many different languages -- Thai, Cantonese, Korean, Mandarin, English, etc. And because Taeyong is the leader of NCT and NCT-127 promotes in the U.S., he is also pretty good at English. But at this time Taemin, Kai and Baekhyun were just starting to learn English so that is why what you heard them say was pretty much lines that they rehearsed, that is why you saw Mark translating what Ellen said for them.

The very confident person is Lucas he's literally an angel He's the sweetest softest baby ever however, he is full of confidence and knows he's handsome Not just that but it's his stage persona if you wanna say Very flirty and confident so yea he has a big stage presence so yea Ten the one you didn't really know He's in WayV (along with Lucas) That's NCT's 4th sub-unit, WayV is the Chinese unit of NCT Ten is Thai and Lucas is a Hong Konger. Ten is very much known for his dancing skills however his voice is extremely beautiful and powerful He normally stands out a lot in performances, along with Taeyong and Mark- Honestly they all normally stand out within their own groups (NCT/WayV, EXO & SHINee) But they all shine in their own ways in this groups and they- i don't wanna say stand out again lol but they all do very much stand individually when performing as SuperM i think you just have to know the members that's all

Totally agreed with you about Ellen. I believe even SuperM had mentioned how disappointed they were since they probably had prepared and worked really hard on their English responses. But it turned out they only got a super short talk segment and her disengagement and lack of interest, made me feel so ughhh. Jopping is not my music taste too but their albums are amazing. You should check them out!

I agree with your sentiments on Jopping though (despite the fact that it was Mark's iconic rap in the song that pulled me out of my 5-year kpop hiatus). The lyrics and overall vibe just seemed a little off for the US/international market. I think the best example of an English song would probably have to be NCT 127's "Regular." Also, the two members are Ten and Lucas (Wayv). Yeah, they definitely get the fewest lines 😢

Their first performance ever as a group was their live at Capitol Records. Their entire debut performance is available on yt. You should watch it. I watch it from time to time and it makes me nostalgic, I'm a shawol but I joined the fandom kinda late, getting to see SuperM debut was a great experience and one I didn't have with shinee.

By the way, just to explain it: Ellen said "why did I ask?" as sarcasm cause she meant that she should have known what the word "Jopping" meant. They do sing "cause when we're jumping and popping we jopping" :)

Honestly, when I first listened to “Jopping”, I thought to myself, ” is that it…” However, after listening to it a few times AND seeing SuperM perform it live in concert, I gotta say that I really like it now and appreciate it for what it is. I still remember the excitement and energy of the concert every time I hear this song now. So maybe the song is best experienced live. Lol

4:57 Just to explain, falsetto is a very soft and airy tone. It is very different from what he just did. We call that a belt, when he or she pushes chest voice very high up in the range and does a mix with head voice to sound very full and strong. Baekhyun hits a F#5 with that vocal tone, even women have trouble singing in this range, but yeah, Baek is Baek.

Thank for reacting to this, although I totally agree with you about the Ellen interview. If you want more SuperM things to react to then the song "I can't stand the rain" is amazing! It's one of the songs they did alongside Jopping, it was the song that was based on Asian style music and sounds to balance Jopping. They have a reality show called M-topia which is so fun as well as a show called As We Wish and you'll really get to know them better in those There's also a cute video that shows how Taemin is different when in SuperM and SHINee if you're interested! It's called Maknae Taemin vs Senior Taemin.

In an arena Jopping is THE song! The boys have so much energy you can't help vibing to it. I remember losing my voice to it haha! The lyrics are extremely silly but it grew on me!

I absolutely love "Jopping"! Everytime I hear it, it takes me back to London Feb, 2020. ❤️

Jopping wasn't my favorite at first but it really grew on me! I really love their song Better days, it's like my comfort song and it's an all english song. I know you said english songs sometimes arent the best lyric wise but that songs lyrics have comforted me during this whole pandemic. Maybe you can check it out next. With ellen I remember the boys saying that it wasn't as fun as they thought it would be. And I think you could tell they were really excited but it was like she wasnt in the mood. So yes to savage Mark! Hehe

Also, I really do like Jopping for what it is: a huge bombastic set piece designed for an epic concert-concluding performance. As a song it is not my favorite of theirs at all but I do enjoy getting hyped to it when working out. For more SuperM, I’d recommend “I Can’t Stand The Rain” or “Super Car” from their debut era (especially fancams of Taemin popping and hitting the woah like CRAZY during “Super Car” performances on their tour 😍). Then the “With You” video they did for the One World:Together At Home online concert, that is so cute. “Better Days” is a nice slow uplifting song, and “Wish You Were Here” is a kind of tropical reggae inspired track. “One (Monster + Infinity)” is a mix of two of their own tracks and is great but I personally love “Monster” better. Honestly most of their music does not sound like Jopping so if you aren’t a huge fan then you may like the other songs more. It is just too bad that this version on Ellen cut out Mark’s iconic verse. That verse is a fan favorite; it was absolutely incredible to go to their concert and hear EVERYONE in the audience screaming out those lyrics during that part of the song. 😂

You really need to check out their another performance "I can't stand the rain" on this show. Taemin shines on that performance. He even stands out from the super group. It is quite sad SuperM didn't get that much appreciation even from their own fandoms. If SM gave them songs that suit them better, they would've been much much more successful..hopefully once Taemin and Baekhyun come back from military, there could be another SuperM comeback. We will see..

Waaah you reacted to SuperM and I didn’t know?? They’re sooo cool. Tbh, the lyrics don’t justify the choreo and music lol. You should listen/react to their other songs, even their bsides and you can understand why SM is hyping them up. Too bad not all fans are onboard when we should support these boys! Firstly I want to just say I am really enjoying watching your discovery of amazing groups, especially my one and only favourite SHINee...yes, I have been a fan of theirs since the beginning.... Anyway I have to agree that Jopping wasn't SuperM's best song, probably my least preferred, but it is still amazing. I remember watching this interview with Ellen. I specifically watched it because SuperM was going to be on it and I was mortified and embarrassed by Ellen's treatment of them. I found her to be rude and I wondered if she'd actually done her homework on the group...every member is a superstar!! Yay Mark!! I don't understand why interviewers ask such personal questions of groups like this; their personal life is their business and I just find the line of questioning belittling ...a better question would have concerned their musical backgrounds, inspirations, or concerts...GRRRR!! Mark throwing shade at Ellen over her dating comment is the least she deserved over her lackluster interview and demeanor while dealing with them. I've been so unimpressed with her and kpop idols on her show.

Sorry but there is no battle of falsettos when "Falsetto king" is present there. Baekhyun is vocal perfection and yaah he is vocal beast. And offcourse superm is group of aces. The fact that dance line being this crazy but still they don't overshadow each other is most unique charm of this group.

this is the second time i watch this ellen interview. ellen as host really did a poor job leading the conversation n asked shallow questions. not much substance, the atmosphere was tense 😑 i think it was kai who said he was disappointed with this interview n if a guest says something like this it says everything. ta for the reaction Yetti, hv a wonderful day ❤️

It was like she was sooo over it by then. Once she introduced BTS , she lost all interests in any other groups. MonstaX was on there and the same thing. She didn't really like SuperM for some reason. But no worries, she is going on to other pastures. Come to think of it, when SuperM was on late night, they didn't do an interview with them either and they looked disappointed by that as well.

i never like it when superm is on a US show because just like they cut a verse of jopping here (which is the best part imo), they also cut a bit of one (monster & infinity) when they performed it on ellen and james corden show. this interview was a whole cringe fest too. anyways, ten is from the chinese subunit of nct --> wayv. so is lucas (confident guy lol). ten didn't get much lines in the first tracks of superm but he has alot more in one and we do (which was just a promotional song for an insurance company, but its hella good). ten has also been in some nct u songs, he was actually in the first ever nct debut MV, the 7th sense. you can also see him in baby don't stop (nct u but its just ten and taeyong), 90's love and work it. he has two solo station songs, new heroes and dream in a dream. AND he is one of the BEST dancers in Kpop right now. ok byee

Ellen always seems a bit disinterested not only that but her humor is kind of asinine, I mean sometimes she's funny but others she just kind of seems like a b*tch 😒 Mark's little savage moment had me in tears!! I was like THAT'S MY SON! 🤣 Lucas is our confident baby lol, he's basically like "I'm handsome and I know it" lol. He fully admits to admiring himself in the mirror lol. Jopping as a song, I like it but I understand why you don't care for it. It's supposed to have that anthem feel and they definitely nailed that. I was sad when I first saw it because of how little camera time Ten had, he's my WayV bias soo..... Plus he's an awesome dancer! He's one of my top picks for the ultimate dance squad that I've put together in my head! Naturally Taemin is on that list as well and the first pick! Kai is also on the list. Taeyong saying "mom im on Ellen" was the best! So cute! I love that Baekhyun says to just call him bacon, it's such a cute nickname for him! I really appreciated your honesty!

Omg😭 what a bop. SuperM is just on another level in talents; vocal, choreo, visual, energy on the stage.

My fave SuperM song is One but Better Days and Wish You Were Here literally got me through lockdown when my best friend was stuck in Japan, plus Ten isn’t loved in Jopping 😔 no lines 😔 same with Lucas 😔😔 but when you get to WayV you’ll see… they’re incredible

I understand. I am not too fond of Jopping either. Tiger Inside was the first SuperM song I really liked, but that might be because I care about melodies and lyrics a lot. Taemin made me stick around because I knew he could do so much more. They have some nice songs by now. Ellen was just plain rude. She had this 'let's get it over with' attitude that rubbed me the wrong way.

For debut song, jopping is really nice for me since more than half of the group is main dancer potential. But watching it thru screen didn't make it justice. I saw them live in London and the song is actually fun to hear it live. From the same albums I like I can't stan the rain more.

Their album ONE has songs which are English but has so much meaning!! Their's Korean as well!! Please do an album reaction if possible!! Would love to see and hear your views!! BTW SuperM is my favorite boy Group!! Thank you for reacting and supporting Them!!

Mark calling Ellen out makes me happy. If only they had been at the late late show with James Corden...he'd do a good job. Plus Taeyong and Mark already were there.

I will say as someone who watched the whole episode the guys didn’t have a lot of luck when it came to the actual day they went on Ellen. She was physically in pain from an injury in her back and was very open about her displeasure about having to work while on pain meds. Ellen was not in a good mood that day and as I watched the episode I felt for them because I could tell she wasn’t going to be in good spirits for them. I know what bad back pain is like and I get but I also feel bad for the guys because it was just not great timing. I didn’t love jopping either but the darn thing grows on you. I recommend you watch the SuperM capital records debut performance and the behind the scenes. The behind the scenes are truly special. My favorite part is Mark playing guitar in a waiting room while Baekhyun and Taemin sing ❤️.

fair enough that she was in back pain. But I would then question how much her team respected and valued the boys. If taylor swift was due and she knew she wasn't feeling well the team would probably reschedule as they value that appearance.

@@Yetti.Like I said it was bad timing for the guys. This show recording was scheduled and advertised before they came over for the capitol records debut event. I don't know how much you know about it. But their schedule was jam packed for the entire time they were out here in LA. They had a huge event where they closed down a street in the middle of Hollywood for the debut showcase. They had multiple fan signings in LA and the OC. They did numerous interviews, a press conference where they watched their MV for the first time with fans, they were filming their own mini reality show of the whole experience, practicing and to top it off the Ellen show. Then they flew back to Korea. Baekhyun and Kai even had to fly back ahead of the rest of the group and missed out on the last fan signing event because they had EXO activities scheduled. There were other famous celebs on that Ellen show ep and she had about the same attitude for everyone. She was in serious pain but still working. I am not an Ellen fan but I understand she wasn't at her best and sadly there wasn't anything they could have done about it. SuperM's schedule was really just too tight.

I had to listen to jopping 15 times to start liking it.

Jopping did her job to solidify the groups image as The Avengers of Kpop but I don't think she's anyone's favorite... BUT that album is actual gold. I Can't Stand the Rain is my personal favorite

Jopping is a bop it made me a kpop stan. Still one of my top 10 kpop songs.

Jopping is not my favourite, but it does make more sense when seen with the MV and Kai is so strong in the performances. Totally agree about Ellen. This feels like a last minute addition that she didn't want to do. I usually like her shows, but she doesn't do well outside her own culture, not just with Kpop. But then, she is the star of the show.

Mark has balls the size of Manhattan. And I adore him.

SM give Ten and Lucas more lines and screen time!!!! Also, yeah, I didn't really like Jopping when it came out, got used to it. First time I saw Mark calling her out I GAGGED 🤣🤣

Most people didn’t like Jopping lol Well the song itself. Many would agree with your opinion of the song

Yeah Jopping was very much their big splashy swaggy hype, attention grabbing song. It definitely isnt the deepest song lol. Its DEFINITELY muuuch better live in an arena, which is what the SMP (SM Music Performance ) concept is about, which SuperM is. One of the criticisms of SuperM is that most of their title tracks were super high produced like Jopping and wasn't what fans wanted from a kpop act. And Ellen's always been super weird about kpop guests :P

@6:11 So true. I think most title tracks are like that...You know it was made to be catchy rather than delivering a message/ concept. Reading Taemin's songs made me love him. The lyricism elevates his discography, ofc the performance aspect is a given.

Yetti I agree with you. I think they also did I Can't Stand the Rain and that is a more powerful song for me. I don't know why they chose Jopping to be the song that introduced them to the world. I actually preferred Super Car, No Manners, and Dangerous Woman. I know they performed Dangerous Woman on Jimmy Kimmel. We still don't have a name maybe -the SuperFriends or the Assembly but yep still no name. We have a lightstick but not a name 😒. Thank you for you honesty. We appreciate it. Some of us have the same thoughts. Some of their other live performances are so good. Maybe check out the performances of the bsides? @@Yetti. Supers is good. Maybe something from one of their songs like The Infinite or One as long as it's not the Joppers. That just doesn't sound cool 😄

I personally love jopping. Its new and their dance is good. My only gripe about SuperM is Ten and Lucas needed more lines.
