    I was going to try and learn about using the rudder but i was so blown away by the graphics quality of your game i couldnt concentrate on the lesson and now i just want to find out how to make my FSX look half as good as that! For real though, very informative.and a much needed video.

    I just use an Xbox controller. Joystick, throttle, flaps, rudder, landing gear, foot brakes and trims in one. The day I learnt about that my FSX experience improved, I find it more enjoyable than actual joysticks, they hurt my hands after a while. Thanks for explaining the use of the rudder as I have finally decided to disable Auto-rudder.

    I know, this is almost nine years old, but I thought I'd share my experiece anyway. Not too long ago I lost the use of both me feet. My solution was the cheap ThrustMaster HOTAS 1. I've always hated twist sticks; I can't turn the stick without twisting it the wrong way. The H1 had solutions for both problems. First, the stick has a tightening screw that locks it down, preventing unwanted movment. Second, one of the buttons on the throttle is a rocker arm. I use that with my left hand and it works just fine. I know it's not proper, but it's what I have and it works.

    I agree, a twist grip isn't properly independent of the aileron and elevators so doesn't work that well. The CH Eclipse yoke has a rocker axis on the handle that can be operated with your thumbs. It's not designed to operate with one thumb, but it can be modifed to make that work.

    The general answer is YES, and I have explained that partially in the video (to counter the resistance or 'weather-cocking' effect of sweeping the tail sideways). There are other reasons too and I think it gets quite subtle. This kind of stuff is discussed in great detail in the book 'Stick and Rudder' by Wolfgang Langewiesche.

    General view is to use FSUIPC. There is no need for a 'sensitivity' function unless you want to restrict your control travel, and you can do that in FSUIPC anyway. I would like it if the 'slope' envelopes were editable (like the way you can set up TrackIR if you have that), but it works well and is still quite flexible. You can also set an asymmetric NULL zone (e.g. if you have a crappy joystick), which you can't do in the FSX controls setup. P.S. Your English is better than my Serbian!

  • @davlatube
    @davlatube11 жыл бұрын

    Thanks for you kind answer and sorry for my crappy English :) Big question about rudder control and aileron and elevator, too, is whether to calibrate controls in FSX or in FSUIPC. FSUIPC has slope function that regulates axes linearity. On the other hand, FSX uses Sensitivity parameter which is rate of deflection not sensitivity. What are your recommendations?

  • @Fzhou98

    I've been having a problem, mainly after installing Airbus X (extended) with the rudders. I tried pressing the rudder yaw keys, but with little effect. It appears that the rudder pedals move, but then instantly move back, and I am unable to move the rudders. As well, a fsx tool tip keeps appearing, saying that "It is difficult to taxi/fly this plane without Rudder Control, to unable this, press Ctrl + x). I pressed the Ctrl +x, but with little effect. Please help!

I think this is due to using twisted rudder. What you suggest? Will it take time to used to or any tip you want to give me. I am mainly flying choppers in DCS World.

    Then I think you will have to map a third button to the 'flight controls (center all)' function. This is mapped to the NUMPAD 5 key by default.

    Using only an Xbox controller, do you think it's a good idea to use one of the analog sticks as aileron / elevators, and the second stick to control the rudder?

    You mentioned that you have PPL license and real world experience. can you , please, tell me do I have to use rudder pedals in real aircraft once bank has been established and once I neutralize controls, and what is aerodynamic explanation for that situation. Many RW pilots have problem understanding that. Greetings from Vladimir from Serbia and Montenegro!

  • @davidwhite8633

    @davidwhite8633

    5 жыл бұрын

    Vladimir Stamenkovic It depends on the angle of bank , and whether you’re climbing or descending. In level flight banks of less than about 10 degrees or so tend to go back to level slowly because of dihedral effect. Up from there to about 30 degrees you don’t need much rudder in left hand turns because of slipstream effect and P- FACTOR. Up to 45 and beyond engine torque gets higher still to remain level and this requires opposite aileron to the turn direction to ‘ hold off bank ‘, and more right rudder to counteract P- factor .In right hand turns more right rudder is needed is needed in all cases because both slipstream and P-factor are both working against you , but you don’t need to hold off bank much because engine torque is doing that for you.

    this is one of the reasons i love p3d flight sim is so real flying special the rudder...did u find a tweak for fsx rudder to be more realistic

  • @AlmostAviation

    @AlmostAviation

    7 жыл бұрын

    No, rudder control works the same in both FSX and P3D. What will make a difference is the quality of the flight model in how the rudder affects different flight situations. For example, the RealAir Scout has excellent side-slipping characteristics while the Aerosoft Twin Otter's rudder is useless. Likewise, the Carenado C152 behaves like you'd expect on the rudder, the Just Flight C152 doesn't. I'm sure these models will behave just the same in P3D.
