How DARE they dangle this "seemingly" wholesome friendship in our faces like a carrot on a stick, when we KNOW how it's gonna end. I never realized how BADLY I wanted to see a film about two awkward girls (from different social groups) becoming friends and bonding over being outcasts or different, and it JUST actually Being an actual friendship! ​@XJ9LoL no it's bc the story for how it's told is a literal cash grab, rubygillman feels underwhelming especially when the trailers say everything and it's hypocritical that the point of the movie is don't just a book by its cover when they should've did the same with Chelsea;-;

I hope Chelsea has an arc in the movie where she realizes that she went mad with power and lets Ruby help her to become a better person. So many clips of the movie posted and I still have a feeling there could be a twist somewhere. I’m gonna watch this later today and see!

@Tompsf1 Just saw the movie and I may sorta understood why you'd say that, but I'm thinking for a sequel that could be the case, that Chelsea would have a redemption arc and become that unlikely ally against an even bigger foe. I always believe that if someone is capible of learning the error of their ways and be truly sincere about it, then anyone can deserve a second chance, even bad guys (or mermaids).

...Something I have noticed is that in many clips while Chelsea is self Asborbed and seeeeems like shes just trying to manipulate Ruby... The way her Grandmother said she cant swim away from her destiny.. I dont trust her grandmother either

I actually really enjoyed this movie. I thought it was very funny, and I think they did a great job on actually making very sweet family moments and lessons in the film.

I love Ruby's Friends so Much I can't wait to get more of them

I literally wished that Chelsea was nice and could be real besties with Ruby they would be a great besties

My biggest concern for this movie is the fact they seem to have pretty much spoiled most, if not all, of its plot with their trailers. Like, I see those girls with completely different personalities, and my immediate reaction is to think: Okay, there is no way they aren't becoming friends or at least friendly rivals. But every trailer pictures Chelsea as pure evil without redeeming qualities which I hope isn't going to be the whole movie because then I wouldn't have any reason to watch it since... Well, the trailers already showed us everything!

Chelsea was suppose to be the topical “cool girl” who’s nothing but a lying municipal narcissist that was taking advantage of Ruby’s confusion, insecurity, and need of someone like her to trust, only to use her for her own selfish goals.

Idc if the plot is predictable, I will watch this movie and support the dreamworks overlord.

Besides the prom crap that is done so many times thinking that is what teens ALWAYS thinks about. It does look good, it is colorful, has good characters, the designs are unique and cute, and it looks like it has a good story. So I will go see it. ^^

[SPOILERS] TBH, I really wished this movie took the silly route and made Ruby and Chelsea besties by the end (shipping or no shipping), the parts where they just hanged out were by far the most entertaining part of the movie, their chemistry together was great (even thought it was all fake). Also, I feel that they ruined Chelsea with that "twist"

it released on june 29 for me. honestly, the movie was really REALLY good, but i feel like it would have been better if ruby and chelsea became friends at the end

This was an awesome movie. It was fun, bright, colourful and even showcased one of the most pressing issues in todays society - trying to fit in and FAKE people who manipulate. 10/10 my 60 year old dad enjoying it, I’m 36 enjoyed it and my 8 and 4 year old boys loved it, we all agreed best animated movie so far this year and we saw mario, spiderman and elemental.

Chelsea and Ruby's relationship and performances were the highlights of this movie.

The trailers make Chelsea seem bad but she is so nice in these few clips instead of a narcissist

It's funny that all these teenagers are so occupied with their phones and puberty issues that they probably genuinely don't notice Ruby is blue and has gills for ears.

I'm only now realising something: in the original trailers that came out, Chelsea said the 'You're just a dumb teenager!' line in her normal mermaid form. In the actual movie, she says it in her upgraded Nerissa form. And no, the trailer didn't have some footage of Chelsea and then her saying a line from another scene over it, her mouth movements matched and she was clearly talking to someone, most likely Ruby. This probably means that at one point, Chelsea either said that line before she turned into a giant mermaid...or she and Nerissa were separate characters originally. There is actually a deleted scene that shows them as two separate ones (in this one, Ruby's mother actually killed Nerissa, who was Chelsea's mother). I have a feeling that either Nerissa was dead and Chelsea was avenging her, or (this is the more interesting but also unlikely one) Nerissa was meant to appear in the film as her own character, and Chelsea either would have been her daughter or her 'right-hand mermaid' who, because Nerissa was permanently weakened after her last battle with the krakens, would have taken up the role of getting the trident and giving it to Nerissa. However, Chelsea, at some point would have betrayed Nerissa, probably with a line like 'Sorry, Mother (or 'your majesty if she wasn't related), but I think it's time for a new queen!' Then this could have led onto Nerissa becoming an anti-hero, where she would help Ruby, Agatha and Grandmamah defeat Chelsea (Chelsea didn't want to avenge the mermaids, she was literally trying to kill humans for no reason) with the deal of never trying to take the trident again, so long as the mermaids were not banished and allowed to live in a separate part of the ocean peacefully. Then Chelsea would have been captured (Nerissa would have probably left her in the cage as punishment) and it would have actually been kinda cool. Yeah, sorry I know this is a terrible idea lol.

I wish this movie came out sooner because I just wanna watch it for my birthday my birthday is in 1-2 weeks And I need to watch it on my birthday and if it doesn't I'm contacting the creators of this movie and telling them to hurry up to speed of the movie and put it out now

Dreamworks pokes fun at Disney because Jeffery katzenberg, Steven Spielberg, and others used to work with Disney before starting Dreamworks studio. The little mermaid just got a live action so this was great timing. Sometimes this happens like when Antz came out the same year as Bugs Life. The most obvious is when Shrek (Dreamworks first film) used a fairytale movie and made fun of the theme park. I love Disney but Dreamworks gives some good jabs and competition.
