Ruby Falls // Chattanooga TN

Ruby Falls in Chattanooga TN is the tallest and deepest underground waterfall in the IS that is open to the public. If you are driving into Chattanooga TN, its hard to miss the impressive number of billboards advertising for Ruby Falls, so we decided to check it out.
In this video, I’m going to walk you through what you can expect if you come to Ruby falls and give you my honest review of whether it was worth the visit.
You can purchase your tickets in advance at:

Do the tours involve a “blackout” where the lights in a section are turned off so you can experience total darkness?

Just want to add for anyone that might feel like the lights and such aren’t for them, they do nighttime lantern tours as well where they turn off all the LED’s and you go through the cave with flashlights. Keep in mind it’s harder to see some of the natural rock formations without being backlit, but it’s a cool experience. Also there’s a tower above where you can see an awesome view of Chattanooga from the mountain.

On these lantern tours, can you still get a good look at Ruby Falls or does the top end up obscured by darkness?

As someone who went to ruby falls in the like the early later 2000’s it doesn’t looks anything like how it used to look like (2010) There was no LEDS just very dimly lit lights, along with a couple mice running on the sides of the cave walls. Time changes a lot crazy

I was a kid when we visited Ruby Falls. I have never like being stuck in a place with being able to get out when I want. I really didn’t care for it myself as a child so there’s that. I guess I am a bit Claustrophobic too. It’s cool if you’re into that kind of thing.

I think they finally sealed off the elevator shaft below the Ruby Falls entrance. I do believe they stopped giving special tours years ago down to the cave that the explorers were originally digging down to. I've always wanted to take a tour of that old cave...

Thats not the impression it gives at all! Its nature and just like anything else in nature (lights during xmass time on trees or around lakes etc, fireworks to light up the sky..) this only enhanced the natural beauty of the entire cave. Plus made it leas scary… walking thru a dark cave would not be for humans (and kids and anyone who gets scared)

Pretty sad especially around 3:20 how you can see the devistation of man in the caverns. Lights are to enhance the experience, guard rails are for safety but if there weren't 1000's of oily hand adults with there gross grubby children touching everything the caves would be much more spectacular. That steak & potatoes exhibit is appalling/ a true testament of human interaction. As a veteran spelunking enthusiast this was pretty disheartening.
