Rubicon Willys Jeep [28mm]
In this video I build the excellent 1:56 scale Willys Jeep by Rubicon Models. I've chosen to build the airborne version and I have modified it a little to add some interest. Should go well with my mighty British forces for Bolt Action games.
Very good kit, plenty of options and choices. Would build again.

The engine will overheat with the tyre in front of the radiator. 😄
Dammit Herbert, you’re tempting me to get another 28mm gem! First the M3 light tank, now this...ah well, at least I’ll get an awesome model out of it.

Muahahaha.
I believe the “ box” under the driver’s seat is the gas tank, of all things. There should be some representation of the filler cap near the tank on the Jeep body.
The Only differance between the Commonwealth and American versions are the crew included. The jeep sprues are the same in both kits. I like your not counting of the rivet building methods.. do what you like!.. Good review
I've built 4 of these, they're lovely kits! They can also work well for Soviets with the addition of the female driver figure from Warlord, and one of their tank riders also fits in the passenger seat.
Just got this model for my Maquis Force for Bolt Action. Looks easy to put together and looks fantastic!
Nice work as always Herbert!
Hello Herbert, I have built this jeep too and also the "British Airborne Jeep" kit for BoltAction by Warlord Games. Obviously one of them does not have the right scale, their sizes are so different ! It's difficult for me to imagine playing them at the same time.
Really well done!
A really nice kit! A couple of things for you, my friend. First, the box under the driver seat is the "gas tank" ! Second, glider born jeeps had the front bumper corners cut off. I've never seen a jeep set up like that except in the SAS in the Western Desert. Normally, it would have a .30cal on a pintle mount in the back. This gave the best field of fire. British units usually used the .30cal instead of the .50cal. Shermans came with both guns as standard. Since you have moved the spare tire, the holder would be left. If you make these modifications, you can have the top up by taking down the gun and changing the windshields. Most American jeeps had a bar of some sort welded to the front bumper "just in case of wires! ", as my dad said. I don't really know about the British though.

I saw the bumper corners removed in the reference pictures I found, but I decided to leave them on. I guess that might have been done to save weight. That's the reason I left the the tyre holder off. I figured they'd remove it to save weight. Same for the lack of windshield. The standard jeep, according to the instructions would have been built pretty much as you say, with the pintle mount in the back etc, including an option for a wire cutter on the front. I just built the jeep, except for the tyre on the front, to what the instructions said is the commonwealth airborne verison. I'm no jeep surgeon though, so I have no idea how accurate they are either.

Thanks for your response my friend. Actually, the bumper ends were cut from the glider born jeeps so they didn't cause any problems if they "moved around" while in flight ! If you want an SAS version in Europe, Italiari makes one I'm 1/35. You can modify it to be like that without much trouble. I'd say you should get some more of those kits. It looks like a jeep to me and for war gaming it should be perfect. One thing I've learned from your videos is how nice almost all of the kits you've shown are. If I didn't already have a rat hole to drop money down this could be it! My game is BattleTech which uses metal miniatures. I actually once took the tech manual and made a miniature of my favorite ones or the ones my friends would like.
The box under the driver is usualy called a fuel tank
the box under the driver is the fuel tank
it a patol tank on driver side under the set
If you are going to use it as a gaming miniature and know what your going to use it for you can probably fit stowage fit for its roll. Else you could maybe cut the canvas roof to make a tarp covering the rear of the car?
Dude, you should have a go at the WarLord SAS Jeep
Not sure a tyre in front of the radiator would be a good idea in service.
Now Tommies got a Jeep for Willys... sorry... by Willys...
A nice little kit, I went with the airbourne one as well. I do have some paras tho. I did a video review too kzread.info/dash/bejne/Z2Z9zqaNm72Yp5s.html
