Ruben Lenten and Jamie Overbeek Test the Ozone Enduro V4 & Edge V11 Kites Back-to-Back in Cape Town

Спорт

Get a back-to-back riding perspective from two of the sport's most extreme big air rippers! Ozone team riders Ruben Lenten and Jamie Overbeek send it on the Enduro V4 and Edge V11 kites over a couple of Cape Town sessions to feel the performance differences.
Of course these two huckers are primarily concerned with max height and megaloops. As you can see in the video, both kites are well capable when it comes down to those performance demands, but the way you're ripped off the water is quite different. Each kite responds and reacts uniquely in different parts of the wind window, while the speed of depower and the power range itself also varies. These performance dynamics will ultimately influence which kite will help you take your own riding further.

    Great video! I have the Enduro 8m v3 and latest Edge 10m v11 - have gone on downwinder trips with both - so nice. Did I understand correctly that Jamie Overbeek is 60 years old. You look much younger :-).

    I agree with the findings in the video. I'm a BIG rider and got along better with the Enduro than the Edge, think you have to push the Edge harder to get the best out of it. The Enduro more forgiving. In fact, one day in Fuerteventura I couldn't get going on my 18m Chrono v3, but was just about ok with a 14m Enduro. It was the speed in the turn kept it lit, where the 18 was moving like a barge, meaning I had 2 sets of waves tumbling over me before the power came. The End'14m turned like a whip in comparison. Also, had a BLINDING session on an old Edge 19m v9 when the 18 Chronov4 wasn't doing it lol. Mental :D

    Hey guys, thank your for the great video and insights. Really inspiring! In your opinion and experience, what would be a good two kite combo for someone who wants to progress on BigAir and start on Megaloops? 10m Enduro and 7m Edge? Or the other way around? I confess i'm struggling a bit with the windranges tables, specially after watching the conditions you ride, but i am 82 and the wind blows 25 to 35knots most of the time here. Thank you so much for your support and inspiration! Kudos from Portugal

    Good video. Use to fly Ozone kites. Great quality. I assume the Enduro is easier to relaunch.

    A question for Jamie... You prefer the shorter steering lines on the Edge but what wingtip setting do you prefer? From the video, it seems the line was on the outermost setting. Also, could you elaborate on the bar pressure and steering? I assume it is far heavier bar pressure and a more direct feel. Thanks!

    Jamie, where you at boiii? haha... Hi Aya, I hope all is well... thanks for your question. We did indeed use the outer pigtail closest to the trailing edge to make the kite faster and bar pressure lighter. We shorten the backlines underneath the floaters to give it more power and better steering.

    @@RubenLenten thanks for replying! I just switched over to a quiver of Edges for racing/speeding... Love them! Got curious and pulled my first powered Kiteloops on my 8m and the yank is a bit more than I can recover from. I did land a few but the ones I didn't were too hot & really heavy! Would it benefit me going over to the Enduro for Kiteloops or should I just (wo)man up with the Edge?

  • @sejalipe

    @sejalipe

    Correct I use the shortest backline setting on the bar and on the kite the attachement for fast steering so that would be the one nearest to the tip. The bar pressure is slightly lighter compared to the middle standard setting. The steering is more direct and for me it's better performing kiteloops because the kite will loop faster and that way return to 12 o'clock faster to catch me.

    @@BerlinMauer Ah nice work... nah you're totally fine on your Edges... you got them already, so let's master them. Just try to get comfortable with looping that 8m a bit underpowered... then just build up the height. Join the Megaloop Roadmap online course, when it opens up again... that has a lot of tips n tricks to progress safe and easy. All the best, cheers

    Cool video but i miss way more details e.g. double loops better with enduro or edge, which one catch better and so on.

  • @flyozone

    Hi, Ruben Lenten may be able to answer this one himself but the Enduro is definitely the kite for double loops as its turning speed is incredibly fast with the new continuous curved L.E. The Edge would have more hang time and a stronger yank compared to the Enduro so you'd need to commit on stronger winds with the Edge so the kite can catch you up after the loop. Jamie Overbeek loves his 7 and 8 meter Edge for kiteloops and Enduro 6m for double loops. Hope this helps ;)

    Hi Stefan, thanks for your message... and sorry for not going to technical in this video. All the specs can be found on the website, too hard to remember them all for the video haha. We kept it purely to the feel of the kite and what they're good for. The quicker turning of the Enduro definitely makes it an easier kite for double loops. The Edge has more lift and a nice catch but as the shape is quite wide the turning radius is just too much for the double loops. Try an Enduro 6 meter for the first tries... :-)

    Any comments to the Reo. I love it although that I do not kite in waves

  • @RubenLenten

    @RubenLenten

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi Chris, the Reo is specifically designed for waves... so it's very turnable, it drifts nicely etc. - but you say you use it for normal freeride sessions? Then I suggest you give the Enduro V4 a try as the new one is also super fast but it will jump nicer for sure.

    @@RubenLenten thanks for your quick response . After a bad car accident I i am 50 % severely disabled . I am happy that I can kite again…. I was twice reanimated …. Second life now. You can understand me very good. I heard about your story as well.we are fighters. To give up is not an option !!!! I like to kite always in a position where I quickly have a lot of depower. Jumps are not that high anymore , I have no more balls for that . As wave kites have very good depower this works very good for me. I have a 12m ozone reo. And 8 and 10 F one bandit S . And a 15 breeze / f one . Love these kites but I hate the French quality …. So slowly I will change them step by step .The ozone is top kite gear . Although that I am staying in Sal , Cabe verde / from November until May , where I get good offers from Mitu . I like to change …. So I will try the enduro, i have seen a guy today , maybe he gives me a test ride the next days . Looking at the shapely both , I thought that these 2 kites are similar . All the best and thanks again 🙏🏽🙏🏽🤙🏾🤙🏾
