The bags are about 5 years old but came out really great after spraying with rubber paint. They are also more waterproof than they have ever been!

Hi Emily, Sometimes people use a very similar paint for silk screening T-shirts. They look great when new, but after a while and a few washes, bits start to fall off with the constant flexing. With the bags, it was completely experimental - but it worked well. This may be because the material is thick and can support the paint. On lighter cloth, it may not hold up so well. I think it is good to experiment, so buy a can, and just put a small design on your clothes to see how it stands up to wear. Good luck with it, and let us know how it goes :-)

Hi, It depends on the type of cloth. If it is PVC shiny stuff the rubber paint may peel off, as there is little to bite into. People do spay cars with it and you can just peel it off, but cars are not flexing like clothes so it sits on there okay. The motor spray will look great at first but may crack after wearing it for a while. It is all a bit experimental really. I would try with the motors spay, and see how it goes. If it doesn't hold, try with the rubber. Try to do a small test spry first to make sure there is no bad reaction between the paint and cloth. I don't think it will stand up to any washing at all. If it is polyester weave or similar, permanent marker felt tip pens may be a way to go. I have done some crazy things with them. You have to be careful how long you leave the pen on the material, as it blees in. Practice on some similar cloth before you do your coat. It will fade in the wash but you could go over it when it does :-) Good look with it!

Hi, no I don't recommend that. The thing about pannier bags is that you don't touch them very much, they just sit there and mine are still okay. Boots get a real bashing and scuffing, so they won't last long with rubber paint. With leather, there are two ways I know. If you are wanting them to last. Dye them with leather dye and polish them with wax polish. If it is just a temporary color effect use car paint. It will not last so long but will look interesting for a while:-)

@Justin Time EnglishClip I suppose the same would be true for purse straps. I thrifted a purse and the straps are peeling (gotta love pleather) but the main design on the body of the purse is still in really good shape. (The zipper pull is also peeling, might be an interesting place to test. 🤔)

@@AKG77 I do recommend this for pannier bags. No washing is necessary. Just get the paint on. It will stick to anything. Backpacks etc. Not recommended because the rubber paint is grippy and will catch on everything. Also, the paint may not hold up to the constant flexing of everyday use od a bcakpack.

Hi, It is very grippy. It actually feels just like rubber, so might be a bit too much for a book bag. On a backpack, it would pull your clothes around a bit. But, if your goal is waterproofing, just apply it to the surfaces exposed to rain.

Yes, I thought that might be the case. Well, the best approach may be to try it on a couple of them. Make sure that you clean them thoroughly with alcohol or similar first. Rubber is a difficult deal with but the rubber paint might just do it. One alternative might be tire paint. The one they use to make tires look pretty on cars. That might be even better as it is designed for rubber. Hope this helps and let us know how it goes!

Hi, Well, I don't really think it would work on clothes. The constant flexing and creasing would probably damage the paint. You may end up with clothes that are not at all water proof, heavier, and less able to dry out. I may be wrong, but I would advise against it, If you do try, let us know how it turns out! Jut to add. If you really need serious waterproof clothes and you don't like the Gortex stuff, the Belstaff oiled canvas gear is great. I used it in my biking days and nothing can touch it :-)

@@JustinTimeEnglishClip awesome, I might try it on pants I can throw on over my main pants? I go threw alot of clothing in my line of work and rain gear is expensive. foundations and outdoor work literally hammers clothes. so I was trying to save some money on buying new stuff every season or every other. A more cost effective means of sustainable dryness hahaha. I'll let you know if I pull the trigger and experiment on some.

Hi, I am pretty sure you can. The panniers are made of some kind of polyester and still look like they did when first painted, no cracks or tears. If you are carrying your bag around all the time it will get more bangs and scuffs, so it may not work out well. Also it is very grippy rubber so might catch your clothes a bit.

Hi, I can't say for sure never used rubber seal. This being paint, it can dry with a good finish, and it certainly has a sealing ability. The rubber seal is designed for sealing, so it will do that well, but may not have a great finish. The best way is to try samples and then choose.
