    Really solid tear down, VN. Nicely done. Should help folks down the road a ton when/if they need to replace pads. I have 4x 8pins going into the 12vhpwr adapter but I have 133% PL showing in Afterburner (ver. 4.6.5 Beta 2). Not sure why you're was limited.

    Thanks for your comment 🙏Thank you for the encouragement! I only had 3x 8-pin cables going into the 4x adapter. The PSU is 850W and I didn't have a fourth cable. So, makes sense why yours would be unlocked with 4x cables plugged in--effectively the same as the 600W cable that plugs directly into the PSU. On another note, I am testing the PNY4090 in the Alphacool block (while taking footage of the maintenance of the inverted 4090 build) and the PNY reference 4090 is limited to 100% power limit, even when I use the 600W cable. It's locked down. Hope that helps.

    Question - does this void the warranty and are there any ways to tell cooler has been removed?

  • @vectornetwork

    @vectornetwork

    Жыл бұрын

    Thanks for your comment 🙏 When I'm doing a teardown, I take full responsibility on if I mess something up and don't have intention on going to the manufacturer for their warranty. So, in short, I'm not sure. I do believe that from the manufacturer's perspective, it absolutely does. But, then I have heard things about how that is unenforceable in certain countries, so I am not sure. I have never tried to tell if a cooler has been removed. If I had to try, I would likely first look at the screw heads very closely. If any of them look like they have been used at all (stripped, any markings), then likely yes. I found that the screws do not remain in perfect condition after taking them off and then putting them back on. Hope that helps.

    The most difficult card to Disassemble for me 😔

    Thanks for your comment 🙏 Makes sense as It is non standard in more than one way. The way they decided to hide any visible screws, so they have the backplate screw cover and also the 3 latches that attach the heatsink to the frame that can complicate a teardown.

    Just installed my FE yesterday, using HX1200 psu with 12V 600W cable. Should I keep everything as standard, or eff about with it?

    Thanks for your comment 🙏 Good question. I likely could have included some conclusion in the video but held off. I am putting the reference 4090 with the alphacool water block through testing now and learning more about how these 4090s operate. At stock, these cards are all tuned all the way to the edge. There is not much headroom to overclock, even with unlocked power limits and water cooling. So, dropping the power limit down to 80% or undervolting it (nearly the same result) resulted in very similar performance (within 3%) but saw a significant drop in wattage usage (about 15%). That's why I think these are tuned to the edge. Pushing it farther doesn't do much but bringing it down does seem to impact wattage but not really performance. So, do I run at Stock or do I run at a reduce power limit and/or undervolt? Still hard to say. My understanding is that if DLSS is enabled, then wattage use drops in general. I use DLSS on everything, even with the 4090. So, with less usage does that mean less savings by dropping down the power limit? To really make a decision, I would have to test the power wattage savers for games I play with and without DLSS. Hm, I hope that's enough info for you to decide for now.

    @@thelmaviaduct What motherboard do you have? I assume it's a newer one, since you have a 4090. If it's got something like BIOS flashback, should be doable without much risk, if any.

    Hello! Happy New Year! Good video, but, please, make showing graph's a bit longer, maybe like 7-10 seconds. It's not possible sometimes push on screen all times to inspect graph's. Yes, mostly I watch videos on my phone.

    Thanks for your comment 🙏 Thanks for your feedback and, yes, I think the presentation of the graphs have room for improvement. I only recently added thermals and charts to the videos and my main concern was losing an audience that wasn't interested in the charts. I was relying on people pausing the video, but that may not be the best approach. I did a rewatch with a point of view of someone interested in the charts and they were clearly too fast. I have to find a good balance. Which charts were you most interested in?

The video is too fast and you don’t show each screw you take out in depth. Please help me, I know the 4080 and 4090 aren’t exactly the same but it’s quite similar screw wise

    you should have explained how to remove the gpu fans ribbon cables. it looked like you flipped something before removing the ribbon cable? most people are not familiar with ribbon fan cables as they are not common in a lot of gpus. i wish nvidia just got rid of the ribbon cables... they just seem like a liability with how thin they are.

  • @vectornetwork

    @vectornetwork

    Thanks for your comment 🙏I think you're totally right. In retrospect, it was likely shown too fast too. I have made efforts to slow things down and show things a bit more clearly. I agree that the ribbon cables are a bit too small and delicate. There are two types of ribbon cables on the FE board. Both a latch needs to be opened/flipped. If I recall correctly, they are opened by pushing on them and they move. The ribbon cable for the fans, you need to lift up away from the board. The ribbon cable for the RGB, you need to pull it down away from the board. I use my fingers. For the footage, I will put it back and then do it with tweezers so it's easier to see (fat fingers cover up the tiny cables). Hope that helps and thank you for watching.

    How did you unlock the power for the card?

  • @vectornetwork

    @vectornetwork

    5 ай бұрын

    Thanks for your comment 🙏 To use the maximum power for this card, make sure you are using a 600W 12vhpwr cable. If you are using an adapter, I think you need the 4-to-1 dongle. Then, use MSI afterburner and you should be able to drag the power limit slider to the right. Hope that helps
