It is impossible to watch this and sit still. I am 73, overweight and due to arthritis can barely walk. But I got up off the sofa and started jigging around. I was dancing! It was wonderful. Thank you! So happy!

Most cities have swing dance clubs or dance groups that keep all the best ballroom dancing alive. Most rec centers have classes. Check out contra dancing. It’s more community based dancing. Fun way to spend a few hours.

After watching this through, I was so impressed by the skill a grace seen here. And, I was convinced I could do what they did, with just minimal practice. So, using this music, I gave it a shot. After only a couple of attempts, I nailed it ! I was able to sit in the floor, legs crossed and watch the dancers, just like they did ! A camera malfunction prevented proof of my success, but the satisfaction is there. Great video ! I exhausted now, but loved it !

In other dancing styles the contestants are serious and sometimes dramatic, this is the only style where you get soaked in positive energy just by looking at it. It's funny, fast, cartoonish, but still elegant. It's so intriguing.

Most dance styles have a main emotional theme. Like the Tango is melancholic, the Rumba is seduction, Samba is vitality etc. and Lindy is playfulness. Wouldn't downplay the other dances, but you do best the dance in the emotion you like to soak in..

Do you find this unusual? Just in case, all of these dancers are award winning dance professionals and teachers; for example, three couples are world boogie-woogie champions (and there are champions of the US, Europe, etc., in different swing styles). Most of them have been performing and teaching together for years (so you can find many great videos with them on KZread, see comments for a list).

I posted the above list here six months ago, but it was recently deleted by KZread for an unknown reason. I posted it again but all subcomments were lost. Thanks to @ Hüppe Jogyuulk for the title of the third song and another user for Stephen's last name. Huppe Jogyuulk wrote: "3rd song is "Sugar Foot Stomp" by Fletcher Henderson (and His Orchestra or Louis Armstrong / King Oliver / Benny Goodman, not exactly sure who performs this faster version)". And, in turn, I failed to find this version among the dozens shared on KZread. Upd III 7:14 - 10:20 Sugar Foot Stomp - Ella Fitzgerald And Her Famous Orchestra Dick Vance, Taft Jordan, Bobby Stark (tpts) Nat Story, George Matthews, Sandy Williams (tmbs) Hilton Jefferson, Garvin Bushcll (a/s) Teddy McRae, Wayman Carver (t/s,flt) Tommy Fulford (pno) John Trueheart (gtr) Beverley Peer (bs) Bill Beason (dms) Savoy Ballroom, Harlem, NYC, July 16,1939, from Ella Fitzgerald's 'Live At The Savoy ~ 1939-40’ CD (2007). Thanks a ton for the list. Got to love and respect these awesome dance couples and dancers. In fact, now it pains me to see them in competitions where there are just 1st, 2nd & 3rd winners. I've seen them through the years, and at some points, some score above others. That's why I like, get-together programs like this one. Where they are exibiting their skill and having fun. Missed Stevie boy (Stephen Sayer). Pleasure seeing Nils & Bianca, Tova and Rasmus, Agnes and Greg (Polish) Tanya, Sondre and the organizer and speaker beloved Marcus Koch and Barbi Kofer. Please keep going, I'm sure the dancers love you both.

I said, “some other man taught you, because Daddy doesn’t have the dancing gene!!” She laughed, with a twinkle in her eye. She learned to dance just before WW11 !!! I grew up with this style dancing. All the regional kids went to a dance hall on a lake every weekend, and danced like this until 2AM. My girlfriend and I won numerous contests at that place, until a young beautiful lady caught my eye, and I asked her to dance. Next thing you know, I had a new girlfriend who became my wife and the mother of our kids. We taught them how to dance like us, and they’re still dancing today. The energy here was real, developed because we had the physical strength to do this. Where did we get the energy and stamina? We walked everywhere, worked everyday, and didn’t have to have a car to get to school, or go to the store, or hamburger joint, we mowed lawns, shoveled walks, raked leaves, did laundry, scrubbed floors, dusted the house, swept the walks, washed dad’s car or truck. We were physically active. NO laptops! NO cars of our own until we earned the money to buy them through work. The phone was at the house. We took turns with our siblings calling girlfriends, Boyfriends called our sisters. Life was simple, fun and we exhibited it through our boundless dancing energy!!

Yeah, that's it, first class . . . digging in, digging in to the melody and the swing, "down and dirty" as some of us would say. Salute to all! And HUGE THANKS for keeping swing dancing and sensibility alive like you do! Great respect from a 72-year-old dancer in multiple styles, and musician, raised in a swing musician's family. You folks are the "knowledge keepers" who are embodying and preserving that tremendously valuable legacy. The spontaneity of the music and dance has the psychological healing effect of breaking through neurotic mind-body sets, quite unlike the kind of uptight, coiffed dancing where the dancers have to stiffly adopt the outward appearances of the dance -- such dancing actually locks in and perpetuates neuroses. Thank you for being such great dancers with such hip ears! Keep the energy going and keep the flag flying!
