It's spring time so the birds are showing up and there are two birds who are particular dick holes, one of them is just a small one with the tweet that sounds like it's coming out of a dying speaker and it is so loud, and then the other one just squawks so hard that it literally goes through my drywall and all the padding in there to the point where I can hear it outside

As someone who frequently talks with the squirrels and feeds them 1. They absolutely recognize faces. I have a white tailed squirrel that comes up to our porch door and barks when our feeder is empty. He never runs when I come out. He just follows me and waits for me to fill up the feeder before he goes to town. 2. Squirrels often bark or do this sort of long bark pattern of short short long when they feel threatened. It is a warning call to other squirrels that danger is nearby. Thus chances are Gus's neighbors are feeding the squirrels peanuts and it was asking for more. Or it recognized him as the man that yelled and was sending out a warning. Also a possiblity is it was threatened by the dogs. Squirrels often bark at my dog when I let him out as well as the neighborhood cats.

Gus's neighbors are probably feeding the squirrels peanuts. That would explains the constant human squirrel interactions.
