Today's topic is simple: RC hobby is about the remote control. Remote control in our case means radio and with radio, you might hear terms like RSSI, SNR, Link Quality and Failsafe. Let's go through all of them and let me explain what is what!

video quality in this specific video is awesome Pawel. You should consider using this setup more often :)

Correct me if Im wrong: RSSI: past reading of how strong something detectable (the signal) was Misleading if: the signal of surrounding transmitters overlay the original signal and make it impossible to decode (e.g. WLAN in Urban area) SNR: strongness of the signal compared to the strongness of other transmitters or strongness of interference (like a tree in the way?) Misleading if: one noise source has more impact on the transmission of packages than another bcs of frequency or something (else) with same dezibels of noise LQ (Crossfire): number of in the past received and decoded packages Misleading bcs: it doesnt know how many packages have been transmitted.

Interesting, thanks. Something I reckon has saved me a few times is I set the drop when no pulses failsafe delay in betaflight to at least 1 second, I think default is 0.1 second. I reckon this might have saved me a few times where I got a loss of control and the quad just continued on at whatever position the sticks were in because the fc wasn’t getting any input from me but then all of a sudden I got control back and managed to recover. I do this for freestyle because my feeling is the quad isn’t going to fly off too far in one second but it’s a lifetime when you feel that loss of control 😂

I wondered why analogue rssi in osd and rssi on my transmitter never matched. Thanks for the explanation! 👍

Can't wait for the first receivers utilizing quantum entanglement. Then we couldn't only fly to the moon, we could fly through the universe with even better latency than CRSF :)

Are you able to get a link quality read out in the OSD on a R9 system or XM+ or it that only for crossfire? thanks!

Good point! Last Sunday my quad dropped although the received signal strength was in the 60ies... I had the low signal link blinking on and off but never thought of it, since using an xm+!!

Hi I have a question, I just set up express lrs and tuned on LQ and rssi dBm the LQ flashes at 0 , and rssi dBm doesn't move from -130 how do I get these displaying the correct values? Tia

I have an ELRS Lite (2.4GHz) Wich has ceramic antenna and a jumper T-Lite with 100mw power and 50Hz frequency. I am reaching maximum 100 METERS before I lost signal. I am using in an open field with some trees, not more than 2 imas obstacles sometimes. Is something wrong? I tried a lot of things, saw a lot of videos about range but I can't get any better! Is this the real maximum for my config? Please help! I saw the conector, the wires, everything is fine! Thanks in advance!!

I often get a loss of RSSI when the transmitter is too close to the receiver (~1 meter). Is this due to saturation of Signal, SNR or quality. I ask, as when it happens I'm usually trying to adjust something on the plane so I can't get too far away (unless I learn to operate the controls with my feet ;-)

on my drone xm receiver the LQ was working accurately. Slowly went down while yes jumping around a lil.. My other drone R-XSR stays at 9 like the whole way then it all of a sudden drop to 4 then back to 9 then back to 6 then 9.. but seems to stay at 9 then numbers drop when it is close to getting RXLoss

i think i broke my mobula 6😭 after a hard clash and clean up i plug in new battery, and heard small spark sound but everything looks fine voltage is ok video signal good osd display normally radio signal also great 8x signal but once i fly over a wall it just fail safe and say rxloss it just drop from sky with 4x signal of radio signal usually i can safely fly over there its just less than 5 meter away and if i fly around me very near, no wall, less than 5 meter everything work fine Is it something related Rx threshold to failsafe after several time of investigation, it almost fail safe every time it reach radio signal below 60 and just drop from sky (on the flight mode there it show 100 f5 101) not sure what it means have no idea what to do 🙏

Hi, I have older Futaba T8J radio with cheap Corona transmitter. I think I have found why failsafe is not working in my setup. It will go for all older receivers/radios. I can send You screen shoots so You can describe it in one of your video. How can I contact You?

    Where is LQ in inav?

  • @dylandickey3179

I would very much like the ability to add LQ to the OSD in the next release of INAV. Looks like it was worked on here: github.com/atomiclama/inav/releases/tag/ls2 and github.com/iNavFlight/inav/pull/5098 so I'm hoping that it will make it in.
