The Death Of The Coventry Mall In Pottstown Pennsylvania | Dead Malls & Urban Exploration
Daily Vlog: 0168 (12/01/22)
Once the the place to be on a Friday and Saturday night for all families in the area during the 80s & 90s. By the early 2000s attendance of The Coventry Mall in Pottstown PA started to dwindle. Larger malls like King Of Prussia and shopping centers like The Philadelphia Premium Outlets, along with a few other new strip malls in the area gave the mall it’s final blows. Although new management tried to keep the shopping center afloat with new independent and smaller retail stores, it didn’t last. Today the mall is empty with only three stores and two food establishments remaining inside. By the beginning of 2023 all stores inside will be closed and the mall will be turned into an outdoor strip mall with it’s insides renovated into self storage. I will personally never understand the appeal of wanting to shop outside or online, but times are what they are and thus my childhood mall has sadly officially died.

As the Norco Mall, it was an open (outside) shopping mall. Then it was expanded, and it became an enclosed mall, c.1974. Name later changed to Coventry Mall.
the chocolate covered banana was def my favorite memory of the coventry mall!!!

Today was sadly their last day. I might to try and stop back in next week. Not sure if I’ll even be able to get in. But perhaps.
So sad. This was my childhood mall and I worked at the Bavarian Pretzel in HS. It was in that corridor when you first entered. I also saw my first movie theater movie there when the theater was in the mall in the early 80s!

I LOVED THOSE PRETZELS! I wonder if I ever bought a pretzel off you? I actually own the original movie projector marquee from that theater.

Good video!!!

Im gonna try and go back when i get home from Florida after the new year. The pizza shop confirmed that they still have to be out by January 1st.
So sad how the Coventry Mall looks like a ghost town all you need is tumbleweed going through the hallways
My hometown mall is dead, it has a bath and body works and a shoe store. When I was young it was hoppin. I’m 2 years younger than you but I remember you could smoke in the mall. They had huge ashtrays on top of the garbage cans. Love your videos Dave!

I think my grandmother had one, sealed in a bean bag or something on her dashboard. I love the 80’s

Why don’t you eat your happy meal and go to the play place so me and your aunt can smoke this place out 😂
based on locations and what I remember, I think the first store you asked about (or maybe the one next to it lol) was originally a hallmark store. the second one I think used to be a girl's fashion store, the kind that might've also done piercings. I've unfortunately moved away from the area, so I haven't been there in so long, but I'm pretty sure those are what used to be there
I have been to this mall many times. Sad to see it in this condition.
I'm pretty sure that this indoor mall's gone way, dinosaur 🦕. Close to 15 yrs. back in early-2010 l ate at T.G.I. Fri.'s restaurant there w/my late papa, who would die, lung cancer ♋️ just few months later in June, 2010
always get a store that won't go one😉
COS. A BANKS Mens wear can be expensive no more sadly to say. Now sale only Female colths
Shame the place can't be utilized for film productions or something, that would be cool

Yea. Not sure its a nice or big enough mall to film in. Maybe a small independent film or something could use it.
What hurt Coventry mall when Bradlee's closed in 2001 that was the death nail to that mall then Sears closed 10 years later, I think what they 're doing the same thing they did with shoppes at Valley Forge mall near Phoenixville,pa where Redner's is at it was an walk through Mall then they enclosed it in over 20 years ago

Yea. I remember that mall. We used to go to the AMES all the time. I always wonder if there are any remains of that walk through area left in back? 🤔
I'm surprised you haven't filmed a video in any Books a Million because they do sell used movies and I have found some great finds at a few locations.
Pretty sure the store you went into at 3:30 was a payless shoes

Very sad indeed 😞
They just demolished a very old block that forced some businesses to close. One was a music store my friend worked at. I'm all for affordable housing, but at the same time tired of it. One minute it's "affordable. The next it's fancy downtown lofts. BS. Loses that downtown flavor it used to have. Bland is not grand.
There is NO SUCH THING as a "strip mall." It's either a strip center (stores in a row) or built in a mall configuration. "Strip mall" is an oxymoron!
