RPM METER NOT WORKING ?? | How to check rpm meter of motorcycle or scooter if its not working
In this video you will learn how to check RPM meter if its not working . Before starting anything check the battery if its providing 12+ volt or not and also after starting the motorcycle you get 12+ volt output from the regulator to battery terminals.Once you done the voltage check you are good to go.
First let me tell you about the wiring and working of RPM meter because if you understand that then it will be easy for you to find out any problem if RPM meter is not working. Basically RPM meter are of two types mechanical and electrical , mostly electrical type of RPM meters used .RPM meter works on three wires 1) negative, 2) positive , 3) signal wire (pulsed dc voltage). If RPM meter is not working then you need to check these three wire for there corresponding works.
According to your motorcycle brand the color of these three wire may be different but the working will be the same.You can easily get the color code from your ignition switch socket one wire will be ground and have the battery negative and one wire which gets 12 volt after the ignition key turn to ON/START position will be the positive wire .Once you know the color for these two wires , we first check the negative wire with the help of a multi meter , set the multi-meter to continuity then connect one probe to the wire and other on the any body metal part ,if you get beep or reading then the wire is all good , if not then the wire must be cut somewhere and you need to repair it. 2nd we check the positive wire and do turn the key to ON/START position , set the multi-meter to 20 volt dc then connect one probe to wire and other to any body metal part and you should get 12 + volt reading , if not then the wire must be cut somewhere and you need to repair it.
Third wire which is signal wire can be found near the 1st ignition coil , the wire which is connected to the positive of the ignition coil will be the signal wire which basically carry the pulsed DC volt to the RPM meter and we get the reading . To check this wire set the multi-meter to continuity and then connect one probe to the positive wire of the ignition coil and other at the same color wire on the socket , if you get the beep and reading then the wire is good if not then the wire must be cut at somewhere and you need to repair it.
After doing all these tests if you find the problem and fix it , and check if the RPM meter works or not .If everything is good and still no reading at RPM meter the the meter itself is faulty and you need to repair or replace it.

if you are trying to say can we install digital meter in this bike or vise - versa then yes you can install digital meter in this bike and this one on new model if you know the wiring

currently my rpm meter is in good shape so its hard to make video on how to repair it , but i'll try to explain , all you need is open the rpm meter and first visually inspect for any damage , then one by one check all the resistor and capacitors and hope you find out which one is faulty
Got a new speedometer and the rpm as soon as the bike is started goes to 3k rpm and then normally i ride at 5-6k rpm but the meter directly goes up to 12krpm and will constantly be there while riding while in neutral and revving it shows correctly same 2005 pulsar 180

could be the issue with wiring or CDI , clean the connection at cdi sometimes rust and loose connection leads to this problem , if all checks good then RPM meter may have some issues

Meraa fuel meter hameshaa full dikhaataa haai. Sensor change kar diyaa. Showroom wale bol rahen haain, meter change karnaa padegaa. Kyaa aap bataa sakte haain, coil short ho gayaa yaa resistor me problem haai?
Sai repair I have honda stunner cbf 125 as speedo meter was not working due to faulty cable so I replaced it now speedometer is working now problem occured ie neutral light, rpm meter and fuel meter are working, checked for all loose wirings all wires are having good connections now not able to rectify what is the issue any solution from your side for this issue

start from the fuse , check if the fuse is ok or not , if that check ok then only possible reason is some broken wire near the handle (if you have checked all other wires going to the meter , make sure all the wire harness sockets are connected , if the ignition switch socket is not connected even then the lights will not work

Buddy.. Maine tumhare diye hue Analog meter k instructions se apni Discover 135s par round headlight plus analog meter laga lia hai.. bhot acchi dikh rahi hai bike.. Thanks Issues after 4 Months.. Issue 1 - Speedometer is not calibrated. It shows 20 kmph when GPS speed is 38, 60kmph when actual speed is 72... Means it is showing less then actual speed.. haan when bike comes to 85 then it shows actual speed.. How to calibrate it? Issue 2 - RPM meter shows correct readings but needle fluctuates when I accelerate and then settles down after 2 seconds.. Example.. I am riding at 3k RPM... I accelerate it suddenly more so the needle should reflect 5k but it goes upto 9k and then comes back to 5k. Why needle fluctutation is there? Needle getting wrong/incorrect signal from ignition coil? WHat if mai Ignition coil se ek wire leke meter ki RPM wire se connect kardu?

first of all i didn't make any video you mentioned and i guess you just copy past it to ask from multiple people analog meter agar sahi reading nahi dikha raha to jaruri nahi meter ki hi dikat hai check speedometer gears and wire rpm meter ki wire ignition coil se hi join hoti hai aapne kaha se ki ?? problem loose connection or connectors mai dust/rust ki bajha se bhi aati hai to pehle ye check karo lo

pehle wiring check karko agar sahi hai to problem rpm meter ki hogi , ho sakta hai rpm meter mai jo resistors lage rehte hai unki value shift ho gai ho or heat hone ke bad bo ache se kam karte ho , or ye bhi ho sakta hai ki ye fault cdi ki taraf se ho , check karke hi proper fault ka pata chalega

ji bilkul lekin depend karta hai ki aap kon kon se function chalana chahte ho meter ke , jese iski speedometer kam nahi karega unless aap iska system digital nahi karte , coupler ki wires ko purane coupler ki according adjust karo , jese netral wire ke samne netral or indicator wire ke samne indicator

jesa ki maine video mai bataya hai ki RPM meter ko pulsed dc volt chahiye hoti hai agar aapke pass koi electronic rectifier ho jo pulsed dc volt provide kar sake to hi bina motorcycle ke RPM meter check kar sakte ho
When I turn ignition switch on rpm needle moves and came back to 0 position but when I start the bike it doesn't move what can be probable fault my bike is ns200

when you turn the key its normal that the RPM needle moves as your meter is digital one , you need to check the signal wire that comes from the ignition coil to RPM meter , if that's ok then there might be some problem in your meter itself

Sir I hv got Pulsar classic 2003.....recently I m facing a peculiar problem with my analog rpm dial....as soon I accelerate from idle ,needle reaches 4000rpm....and after accelerating further the needle drops down to zero......but when I release the accelerator it again starts working.....it just works from 0 to 4000rpm and the needle drops to 0 when further accelerated.....my meter has never been opened or repaired.......wat can be the problem?......circuit board or is it something else....plz help

well could be the RPM meter or the CDI , i have seen this similar problem due to bad CDI as there is no issue in engine running from CDI but RPM meter not works properly , so first check the RPM meter by connecting it to other motorcycle if you have and if it works smooth then you know its CDI fault or just swap the CDI with a new one and you will know the cause

ji bilkul milegi reading , magnet coil se jo current produce hota hai bo phir RR unit mai jake 14 volt dc mai convert hota hai or bahi volt battery ko bhi charge karti hai or sath mai sabhi system jese indicator , horn , rpm ko 12 -14 volt supply karti hai

भाई जी एक बात बताओ हमने अपनी डिस्कवर 150cc न्यू मॉडल में एनालॉग RPM मीटर लगाया था अभी दो दिन से हो ये रहा है कि जब बाइक को स्टार्ट करते है तो सुई सीधा 3500 RPM पर जाकर रुक जाती है एक्सीलेटर लिए बिना क्या खराबी हो सकती सुई नीचे नही आती भले ही बाइक आइडलिंग पर ही क्यों ना हो

sir not matter what type of motorcycle you have the RPM sensor/signal wire always connected to ignition coil and you can check everything just like the way shown in the video

rpm signal wire check karo ki kahi cut ya strip to nahi ho gai hai , agaar signal wire body se touch ho rahi hogi to ye problem aaige , agaar esa kuch nahi hai to make use ki aapki battery sahi to or meter console ke socket ko open karke check/clean kare agar rust lagi ho, ignition coil pai jaha rpm signal wire attach hoti hai us connection ko bhi check kare kyuki agar vo connection loose hoga to bhi ye problem aa sakti hai or kai bar ye problem cdi ya rpm meter ki hi hoti hai jiska solution inhe change karne se hi hota hai
Bike 18v tak voltage show kar Rahi hai is ki kia problem ho sakti hai

there might be some problem in the meter it self or the wire is striped and touching the body or could be the loose needle, if all these things are ok then the CDI must be bad , replace it with another one to check if the problem solved or not

rpm meter bali wire check karo ki khahi se strip hoke body touch to nahi ho rahi or ignition coil pe bhi iska connection check karo , agar sahi hai to ya to CDI ki bajhase esa hota hoga ya phir RPM ki bajha se
Mere pass bhi same model pulsar old 150 hai. Accelerate high karne par 3000Rpm par needal jati hai use upar nhi jati hai.. Normal accelerator par needal upar jati hi nhi hai... Please help

kya aapne kabhi meter open karbake repair karbaya hai??? agar RPM needle galat lag jaye to esa ho sakta hai , aap RPM needle ko open karke dubara insert karke thodi der ke bad bilkul zero pe phir dekhe ki problem solve hui ya nahi, or sath mai coil se jo wire RPM meter mai aati hai use bhi check karle ki bo kahi strip to nahi hai , agar phir bhi ye problem theek nahi hui to phir CDI mai problem ho sakti hai

chahe battery lagi ho chahe nahi, dono hi case mai RPM kam kanna chahiye , agaar battery lagane pe kam nahi kar raha to aapko wiring check karni padegi jo battery se ignition key pe jarahi hai ho sakata hai kahi pe shot ho tabhi assi dikat aa sakti hai , jaruri nahi hai ki yahi problem check karne pe hi pata chalega

rpm meter ko 12 volt (dc) chahiye hoti hai jo ya to battery se ya magnet coil se milti hai, aaki motorcycle agar without battery hai to us mai jo wire headlight ko power deti hai uspe ek voltage regulator jo ac to dc convert kar sake bo lagao or phir output dc volt supply RPM meter ko do , agar already RR unit lagi hai to usmaise jo DC volt output hai use RPM ko positive connect karo, or agar aapki motorcycle mai indicator DC voltage pe chalte hai to unki positive wire se direct RPM meter ki positive ko connect kardo
