@@aydenbeta1380 Not sure what you're running. But I'm on a 5800X and I've been poking around RPCS3 the past few days. Using the reommended settings for the following titles. Gran Turismo 5 - 50-60fps at 1440p. Car dealers and some other things will tank frames to low 30s in some places still. Gran Turismo 6 - 45-50fps at 1440p. Runs a lot worse for me than GT5. skate. and Skate 3 - 80 - 120fps at 4K. Ratchet and Clank Tools of Destruction - 4k, 50-60fps, some places will happily exceed 60fps. Ratchet and Clank A Crack in Time - much more unstable than Tools, some graphic effects can tank frames hard. Some areas will run close to 60+ at all times, but most locations will have drops to at least 30-40. MGS4 - 40-60fps usually. I have it uncapped so it can exceed but you're going to have some sections drop. Overall, rock solid for most of my time playing. Gran Turismo and Ratchet franchise have a lot of issues still, MGS4 obviously still has a ton of issues, it needs hacks/cheats to fix issues to get it running. You'll definitely need at least a 6 core CPU though as quad cores can get seriously bogged down. My old 3600X could still get a really solid 60fps on Skate 3. Enough to play through a good chunk of the goals. GPU isn't too important, especially if you don't use resolution scale. My 3080 is usually hovering around 50% at most in most of the games I've tried. Usually even lower.

@@elimalinsky7069 There's still another 256MB of VRAM you'd have to dump. Either way it's not about size of RAM/speed of dump, the people who use savestates don't care if it's instant or takes 10 seconds. The real problem is saving and restoring the other parts of the machine gets very, very complex as consoles get newer.

@@domingorodriguez3077 I believe AVX512 was killed off because the little cores don't have it, the big cores do. But windows scheduling was having issues with giving AVX tasks to little cores in testing and they couldn't resolve it for whatever reason. Also, AVX was a large thermal contributor to an already thermally limited design. I think that made their decision easier. I feel like we will see AVX 512 again in an intel CPU, but it may not be until they work with windows to ensure it's a smooth experience. In contrast, AMD supported AVX 512 for the first time in the 7xxx series CPUS, but it's a weird half AVX 512 where they combine two AVX 256 units in some black magic voodoo technique. But my understanding is that the performance isn't quite as robust as what we saw in the Intel 11 series Rocket Lake parts.

This means, apart from drop feeding new content and SJW characters sending wall of text e.g. first car you buy monologue by a zoomer who is a car historian in her 20s, GT7 feels nice to drive but awful to navigate, you can not differentiate from player a vs b by looking at their level whether they are skilled drivers or noobs, to sort online lobbies easily.

The best ones are Ratchet & Clank 1 and 2 (Going Commando) for the PS2, Deadlocked is interesting too. They can be easily emulated on PCSX2 with widescreen patches too, the HD version on PS3 had a lot of glitches. The other games were made targeting very young kids only I think. The first one is still enoyable nowadays (it targeted teenagers), the second has an amazing gameplay and it already targeted younger audiences but it was still tollerable. 3 (Up Your Arsenal) is for young kids, Deadlocked is like 2 (target wise) while Tools of Destruction, A Crack in Time and the Remake are for newborn babies unfortunately...

Honestly, with how good this emulator is getting with these recent updates, I'd imagine a lot of PS3 games would be playable on a Steam Deck. More demanding ones like MGS4 probably won't run too good, but some might run well.

The Xbox 360 version on Xenia Canary is much better. If you're in an area with water in it the game speed drops to 50% and in areas like Groznij Grad, the bike chase and later areas (The Boss fight included) the game runs very slowly too. And you need to tweak the controls a lot to circumvent the pressure sensitivity, I got a custom layout and I can play pretty well with it, but it's hard to retrain the muscle memory. I had 0 shader compilation stutters (I have an i5-8600k). On Xenia it runs flawlessly and the controls are better, since you don't have the pressure sensitivity things and they're more similar to the original. The only issues I couldn't fix were the cockpits of the Hind (they weren't see through), a couple of glitches during radio conversations and a cutscenes where Sokolov explains the Shagohod in Groznij and a flickering triangle in the skybox when you fight the Shagohod. And strangely, both RPCS3 and Xenia have a bugged cutscene: after you kill The Boss there's a cutscene that show the aircraft and only its inside is rendered. On PCSX2 the game runs very badly from The Fear onwards (and has the same controls issue of RPCS3, if not worse) and even after hours of tweaking it still looks a bit blurry. Let's hope that the Master Collection comes to PC too, I don't care about the remake. The only gripes I have is that the HD Edition doesn't have the nightmare sequence or the extra stuff (Snake vs. Monkey and secret theater).

I never understood why Sony crosoft and Nintendo (or Sega) would not just go to one of these big dev teams and say : OK here's a few millions, you take that out of the market, you work for us, you port this officially on the new hardwares Not only would they remove talented people from emulation scene (let's face it, Nintendo clearly want them off for instance) and they'd get a functional emulator with bells and whistles ready in no time that they can cash upon. Licensing. These emulators are usually released under a copyleft license like GPL, and are using tons of code from similarly licensed projects, means instead of taking them out of the market, they would even be required to release all future improvements they do under the same license. This could theoretically be circumvented by relicensing it (which would require consent of all contributors) and replacing all code derived from other projects, but it's probably far more easy to just start from scratch and have full control.

@@UnorthodoxJediWow, good point. There might be a point in the future when the Xbox can play PS3 games but the PS5 can't.

They could, but if I'm not mistaken RPCS3 is open source so they would have to 1: credit the original emulation team and 2: publish any changes they make to the emulator.

@@Plumtopia I know they'll never do that but that would be a win-win

The license allows it, but I don't think Sony wants to add GPL-2.0-only (which requires fulfilling source code requests for interested users) code into the PlayStation.

The save state mention caused to me gasp out loud and then curse. I'm impressed with that emulator even if Ixwont be using it. Good work as usual.

I've been using this emulator recently, and it's quite impressive how many games run smoothly. Although I can't seem to connect a ps3 or ps4 controller to work appropriately.

Tremendous work from the RPCS3 Team! What was once a pipe dream is now a feasible reality!

The PS3 was ahead of its time. I still remember the whacky "Cell Processor" commercials. I just want to play MGS4 without having to stream it whenever Sony says you can I believe it's been available to stream to PS5 twice and each time I played through the game again and I am patiently waiting for them to let me do that again which sucks! It shouldn't be this way......

You can literally now play God of War 3 OTG in Rog Ally during long ride/flight but make sure you have a powerbank and use bypass charge.

RCPS3 is monumental due to how difficult that architecture is, but im absolutely amazed how well the steam deck can play some of its titles. Im currently playing MGS3 HD on it and it runs very well with about a 5 FPS dip here and there

Infamous 2 running at higher resolutions looks so good it's insane.

I always take that playability rate with a big container of salt. Don't get me wrong the work, talent and effort in any of these emulators is extremely impressive!! But the vast majority of those "playable games", would even run on a potato. Often they are simple games that are also ports. Also, there are quite some games that one doesn't need a emulator for and are available on PC natively. All emulators include these in the playability rate, but it says extremely little about what is actually playable from the most interesting stuff.

I completed MGS 4 on a Quad Core at 60 fps most of the times. Idk how better they can make an emulator for a console that developers shat their pants to port games.

MGS4 was a gem, and it’d be a shame for it to be stuck on old tech forever.

It'll maybe be apart of the Vol. 2 of the MGS master collection while Vol. 1 has the 1,2,3. They'll just have to cutout the references to PS3 on the game

I was pleasantly surprised to see you mention MotorStorm. The PS3 had some neat IP that I want to see brought back, one of which is MotorStorm. (Warhawk, Starhawk, and MAG are some others.) I really wish MotorStorm had become Sony's premier arcade racing franchise. A more casual counterpart to the hardcore sim that is Gran Turismo. But sadly it wasn't to be. Nice to see it running well on RPCS3. I just built a new gaming PC a couple months ago. The GPU is far from the best, but it's still an improvement over what I had, so I kind of wonder what performance I get from RPCS3 now.

Interesting choice that MVG has decided to rebrand as Compiling Shaders. Nifty animated logo, though.

Wish they would reverse their stance on a DX12 renderer that was present in earlier builds so a Xbox port could be done. They say they dropped DX12 to be more multi-platform but that's hardly the case when they exclude platforms as a result of the API removal
