Goodness it must be inconvenient to have a church wedding in places where it’s not automatically considered also a civil marriage. Belgium should go the way of other nations who allow religious ministers the power to also perform the marriage legally.

Although you're right on the merits, I assume that you're unfamiliar with Europe, as most European countries (governments) recognize only civil marriage. That system was imposed by Napoleon, not only in France but also in much of Europe as part of his conquests, and many countries on the Old Continent have (unfortunately) retained it after Waterloo.

Monaco requires the same thing. Civil marriage first, then a religious one.

I don't think Belgium requires that it's royal family marry only other Royals.

@@gidzmobug2323Anyway, Fabiola was from the Spanish nobility: she was born Countess de Mora y Aragón.

@@majy1735 A morganatic marriage is one where a Royal marries someone who is not a Royal (an example: Prince Alexander of Hesse marrying Countess Julia Hauke/this union brought the Mountbattens into existence). Belgium doesn't have a requirement for an equal marriage (both parties must be Royal).
