Also noticed that a lot of the "bests" were those who had access to custom dresses perfectly fitted by top designers while those who were criticized did not.

Her outfit was perfect, but she didn't curtsey as King Charles walked down the aisle. Others around her were bowing their heads and the ladies all curtsey. Someone said maybe she did it earlier in the day. That's not how it works. This is a solemn coronation and if William is bowing his head and her father, Prince Edward, Kate and her mother, Lady Louise should have curtsied as well. Still like her and love the outfit😮

Nice to see Zara in blue. She always seems to be in Pink.

And this is part of the problem. We analyze what people wear and put them down or build up according to the standing in society. At least they all dressed for their own self and comfort, and financial abilities. So tired of people being discussed and liked by what they wear!

I agree. There can be some value in pointing out more flattering lines and cuts and/or formal wear but all of these people put a lot of effort and thought into their fashion choices and there will always be something we wear to anything that we love but may not be best fit for us. That’s ok too, no wonder people have so many anxieties

Some of the hats seemed too big for inside.

This was a coronation, not a fashion show. I’m tired of women getting judged for their clothing, hair and weight while men just do whatever. So shallow. Some of the “thumbs up” outfits looked hideous to me. As I used to tell my best friend when she asked my opinion on an outfit: “It isn’t my style but if you like it and feel good in it, that is all that counts.”

I disagree: the Coronation is all about symbolism : showing off the qualities of what you represent within the Church of Christ is what counts..... Understanding the ritual of why the Kingdom is blessed with an earthly King is not only a vital componant to safeguard Christianity but also to show the world Britain has never been a mediocre country by going full throttle to live up to the blessing we received.....through Isaac and the SAX SONS... The display of all our forces uniforms are structured from past events, symbalized to the hilt of why Britain became a great nation........ not because we're good: but because we had to bloody well become good enough to fight many wars to keep us in Christ!! "Costume" is used interchangeably with "outfit" in Britain. What we think of as a costume in America they would call "fancy dress". In other words, backwards and very different meanings to each other.

Please clarify for the non-native speakers of English: According to the online Oxford dictionary, the word costume can be used in a neutral (not derogatory) way for clothing of ethnic groups (I guess meaning something like traditional clothing of this group of people) - so I don' t see a problem. Is it a British -American English difference?

I think the extra large hats are shameful and ridiculous. Others behind them get to see nothing but a hat. Emma Thompson reminds me of the hideous outfits Hillary Clinton wears. Terese Coffey looked like she stopped by the Goodwill before going to the coronation.

These things are purely subjective opinion based on arbitrary and idiosyncratic preferences. Yet every one of them ridiculously making definitive pronouncements as though there's a right and wrong colour or style. So silly!

The royals just turn out elegantly dressed,the pastel yellow colour of pippa was good,the lessotho queen was beautiful,queen maximas embroidered top dress added features

Why wasn’t Penny Mordaunt mentioned? She had a great outfit. And I also think that these people’s clothes were all fine, except for Katy Perry’s huge hat which was obviously awkward for her not to mention those sitting behind and next to her.

They all looked good to me! 🤣😃😳👌😎😜

As I understand it, they were encouraged to wear day dresses, as Charles wanted to keep the whole affair a little less formal and wanted the women to feel more comfortable. I thought most of the women looked just fine, except Katy Perry. Hers looked like it didn`t fit well and the hat looked like she was just trying to grab attention- typical for her.

I thought Finnegan Biden looked perfectly lovely for the occasion. It was good to see her there with her grandmother, the First Lady of the US. Thank you, Finnegan, for being there looking so lovely.

Where was Prez Joe?

Some commentators mentioned the women's shoes, but I didn't see what was so special about any of them. Almost all were pointed-toe spike heels, and except for the color, they all looked alike to me.

Don't be nasty. Criticising peoples' outfits and looks. For a start, nobody really knew what to wear. No tiaras allowed even for Queens and Princesses of other countries. A more understated look. The ones you've given a tick to, are all thin & willowy while you've carefully chosen people with less perfect figures. The most important thing was that they were all there.

There definitely some bias at work here. Lady Louise certainly looked lovely in her floral dress, but some former prime minister wife with similar was viewed as too casual. Maybe because the PM's lady isn't 19 and beautifully statuesque.

Can you imagine living under this type of scrutiny!? I think some dressed down a bit, just so that they would go unnoticed. Other's really tried to get into the spirit, and still others were just trying to look respectable and not gather too much attention. Impossible situation for many of these ladies to undergo.

Hysterical that many women you are bashing with a poor outfit choice have made their mark in ways other than being simply a clothes hanger. When you have a brain, a doctorate, an Oscar, or a career, you don't have to worry about stuff like this. Even Charlene was a world-class athlete before she was a royal. I live in Washington where women with brains actually do things in blue suits, and Jill Biden's outfit was fine--she was attending like a diplomat, and none of the men attending as diplomats were subjected to thumbs-down stuff like this. Admire the lovely dresses all you like and give them a thumbs up. But then shut up. Emma Thompson doesn't have to be bashed for not wearing lemon pastels like Louise and Pippa. I like Louise and Pippa, but demanding that Dr. Jill and Amazing Emma look like them is ludicrous. The intellectual and social peers in Jill and Emma's worlds have a very different brand of what's cool than twenty-year-olds do, and they look just great. Even the very strange-looking MP I have some degree of empathy for, because her male colleagues with her same job were exempt from scrutiny altogether. How was Boris's hairdo, by the way? So freaking sexist.

The wide hats were challenge for the MANY people seated behind them.

Joanna Lumley ( 77) looked perfectly lovely remember her age so in navy and white ..looked just right , plus sensible wedge suede shoes from Van Dal just right for the for cobbles and stone flooring and navy tights ..cathedrals are cold placed to sit for hours
