🎵Royal Opera Masterclass with Antonio Pappano #3: Stephanie Wake-Edwards (Tales of Hoffmann/Nabucco)

Find out more: www.roh.org.uk...
As part of our #OurHouseToYourHouse Masterclass series, Royal Opera Jette Parker Young Artist Stephanie Wake-Edwards is coached through arias from Offenbach's The Tales of Hoffmann (Les Contes d’Hoffmann) and Verdi's Nabucco by Music Director Antonio Pappano.
This session sees Stephanie rehearse the Violin aria from The Tales of Hoffman and 'Oh! dischiuso e il firmament' from Nabucco, accompanied by pianist Susanna Stranders .
The Jette Parker Young Artist programme supports the artistic development of talented singers at the beginning of their careers. Young Artists are employed as salaried members of The Royal Opera and immersed in the life of the Royal Opera House over a two-year period.
The specially-tailored programme includes extensive daily coaching in languages, stagecraft and vocal techniques, alongside training for cover roles, performing in concerts and for smaller roles on the main stage.
The Jette Parker Young Artists Programme is generously supported by Oak Foundation.

I was fortunate enough to hear/see Stephanie at a masterclass given last year by Juan Diego Florez. She reminded me of Daniella Barcellona. I thought then that she has a great future. I shall watch her career with interest.

Love this!! I appreciate his knowledge of the voice sooo much, and the way he talks it's obvious how much he works with DiDonato ;) Stephanie does great work as well and so does the pianist!

This aria actually occurs during the Antonia act, not the Olympia act. It was a lost aria which was discovered in 1987 and added into the Met Opera revival which was telecast in 1988.

Yeah, we found it in the Alkor edition of the opera. It’s typically now an insert aria to give Nicklausse something to actually do in the Antonia act. There was also a really interesting re-write of Dapertutto’s “Scintille Diamant" to insert into the Olympia Act after the eyes trio, to give Coppelius an aria in the Olympia act if Dappertutto is singing "Tourne mirroir" (which is the same tune as "J’ai des yeux" which is often replaced by the trio now). I’d be very interested if a recording of this version of the aria exists

@@kiwi_tenor It does exist. I believe that this is the recording which encapsulates the Michael Kaye version. Here is it with Samuel Ramey (the late Jeffrey Tate conducting). Enjoy! kzread.info/dash/bejne/dGiM2aisndnHqKw.html

@@kiwi_tenor Here is another recording of it with Jose Van Dam (Sylvain Camberling conducting). These recordings came out shortly after more music had been discovered. In order to preserve it, a couple of the recording companies produced a couple of new recordings to make them available to the public and to HOFFMANN lovers (like myself). Enjoy! kzread.info/dash/bejne/gWuKxbCro7POe8o.html

In my humble opinion, Stephanie is very good. However, I do wish she could stop herself from saying "yeahyeahyeahyeahyeah" or even "yeahyeah".

I think it's just her way of staying verbally and mentally engaged, a lot of folks (and cultures!) say short words in succession to show they are focused on the conversation 😊
