Just saw this video and agree with your thoughts regarding the Shotgun. I took one out for a test ride about a month ago and rode it round the Denbigh moors where the roads were virtually deserted. I had ridden the interceptor and SM and for me the Shotgun was easily the best for comfort. My main negatives were mainly the weight at 240kg {and that's before adding an accessories like crash bars}, the instrument cluster and minor points like the mirrors and the colour options. Royal Enfield quality is improving with each new model. I'm looking forward to the Classic 650 and the Scrambler although I doubt wether I would part with my signals 350 but it could have a bigger brother to keep it company!

Hi Dave, Do you know, and it's been a while now since I rode them but I think overall I preferred the Super Meteor. But let's be honest there aren't many bad bikes about now. Those two are just different flavours of the same bike. I thought you had a Himalayan? Royal Enfield do make some great stuff, they need to keep the prices where they are now and not try to compete with the "of premium" brands. 👍

@@shottostravels I do still have my Himalayan, it's a bike that I can't bring myself to part with. I've had it coming up 3 years now, it was the Potteries demo bike so had a few accessories fitted. I do agree that these days bad bikes are extremely rare. I just like looking at new bikes 😁😁

Good review Keith. I saw the shotgun at my dealer. He told me to take it for a testride, i said no because i knew i was sold and had to have one, ha ha. I want to wait for the classic 650 to have a good compare. But the shotgun is a strange, yet wonderfull bice. Thanks again for your video. Berry

Morning Keith, I took a Shotgun out for a test ride myself, I also had an Interceptor, for three years and 10,000 miles, and thought the seat and footrest positioning was better than the Interceptor and the handling was better as well, it's a great bike, and again it's very like my 350 classic with a bigger engine.. Good review 👍 Cheers Mel

I've shared this with my Hunter riding friend over in New Zealand who is considering one of these. They're not in the showroom over there yet. I never used the Tripper on my Meteor but - call me eccentric - I prefer the offset speedo on my Hunter and that Shotgun 😂 Interesting that you owned an Interceptor in the past but now have the Classic 350. For me the lighter weight of the 350 j series over larger bikes is what I enjoy so much, especially as I spend much of my riding along country roads and narrow lanes. Nice chatty review 👍

Thankyou for your comments. You're eccentric! No you're not, we all have our preferences. I do like my Classic 350, It does fulfill my needs perfectly but when has that ever stopped me changing bikes.🤔 I have been a serial changer over the years, I wish it wasn't so. It has cost a lot. But then again, we all have our weakness! I hope you're mate manages to get his leg over a Shotgun in New Zealand, it's certainly worth a test ride! Ride safe mate 👍

Thanks Keith👍 I didn't like the Shotgun 650 at first either - especially that rear mudguard which looked a bit too "fendery" if that's a word. And yes, a bit of a concoction. It almost had an identity crisis and to be fair, even Siddhartha Lal said as much at the launch. But the look has grown on me - a lot. And seeing it in the flesh in the grey colour scheme it looked a corker. I think any identity crisis it may have had has gone now. In fact I think it's actually carved it's own niche. It has been suggested that it was a market test before the inevitable Classic 650. RE would be foolish to upset their domestic market and the Classic is so well rooted that it might have been too much to suddenly introduce a 650cc parallel twin and expect immediate acceptance. But, experiment or not it's great to have the Shotgun 650 now as it provides even more choice for us. I can tell you're impressed and you are kind of making a case for having both. The Classic 350 is a keeper for most people and it has it's own very specific use case. Several of those I follow on KZread have sold theirs only to buy another having realised that they still need a Classic 350 in their lives regardless of any other bike(s) they have.

Thanks Mate that's all good stuff. It's interesting to see that the top Enfield man agrees. I think you're correct, it will find it's own place. It's definitely grown on me and it rides great! I think we are all waiting for the highly rumoured 650 Classic. That'll be fun. They are certainly making the most of the engine/ platform and there's nothing wrong with that. I wonder why they don't build bigger bikes. Eg Can you imagine a 1000/1200 cc adventure bike? To rival big GS's or KTM's Perhaps that would not be of interest to them in the home market, people possibly couldn't afford or even use one like us Europeans. Who knows? Thanks for your thoughts Ride safe mate 👍

@@shottostravels According to MotorInc (great channel) the domestic Indian market is slowly changing and higher capacity bikes are starting to be in demand. Whether this will extend beyond 650cc I'm not sure - I suppose it depends on their licensing rules?

@@shottostravels The looks and hardware on the Super Meteor are a step up from the Shotgun I believe. Also my wife, like me, has also been riding over 50 years. She is finding her current bike a little tall. She could use my Meteor 350 if I purchase the Super Meteor is what I was implying,🙂

Had to laugh when you went to see Gordon banks ,South Yorkshire lad like me grew up in Tinsley on the edge of Sheffield, as a kid he was'nt liked by my Aunt, he used to take the mickey out of her ,one day she'd had enough and she threw him in the brook on the local fields .He was an excellent goal keeper though . When do you get your new Shotgun then Keith :D

A very enthusiastic review ! I get the impression that you like this bike .😅 A better looking bike than the Super Meteor for sure , and conventional foot position is a relief but looks a bit drab . It needs a jazzier paint job . There seems to be a trend to go back to the austere 1950s paint colours . ( Suzuki Vstrom 800 for instance is awful ). RE love to fit ugly exhausts to their bikes too . ( new Himmy is the exception ) The weight ? 240 kg wow , that's only 5 kg less than my 1200 Tiger which is a big heavy lump . So it's not a bike for me , maybe if RE turn out a good looking 650 Classic ( or Bullet ) I could be persuaded , let's see . So the Shotgun is " close, but no cigar ".

Great looking bike but that is the worst colour, in my opinion. The one thing I think they got totally wrong, is the styling of the exhausts. They stick out way too far and are too long. Definitely bar end mirrors and after-market exhausts needed.
