The Engine doesn't really come into its own until its done 2000 Miles plus then it is super smooth and much faster than it sounds. The worst MPG I have had is 78 MPG usually 84 MPG. I ran it in a bit old school stuck to 40 MPH for the first 300 miles the gradually built up to 60 MPH up to the second service. now its done over 2000 Miles it will cruise at 65 to 70 all Day and the top speed is 84 [Wich is exactly the same as a CRF 250] without the screaming engine and VIBRATION both are 24 BHP. The Scram is not a SUPERBIKE but is a Super Bike to Ride.

At my time of life lighter, simpler and less powerful makes a lot of sense. I've had big fast powerful bikes, and they were great at the time but it's time for a change. I also like the look and concept of these bikes too, in fact I wouldn't be worried by having to ride one of them on fresh snow. The fact is lighter bikes can be a lot more fun and are a lot less scary when they get away from you.

I recently purchased a Scram 411, and i agree with your review of it , I love the bike and it is fun to ride even though i'm still in the break in period. I did put on a PowerAGE slip on exhaust and it sounds great. The quality ,fit , and finish is excellent , along with a very reasonable price . They are made in India . I watch all of your videos , keep them coming , Thanks ,Ernie

Loving my Scram, even though I've yet to ride it on a dry road! My dealer said not to get paranoid about the handbook guidance on running in - advice was "just be gentle with it", which means don't accelerate harshly and avoid riding flat out. I'll keep it below 60 mph until it's first (300mi) service and avoid revving it hard. It feels fine - you can feel an engine under stress, so don't go there!

Good points and pretty much the way I went initially. Mine is now at 1300 miles and is going like a train with a glorious sound and so much character in all aspects. Beware sage like advice from dealers….they just want your cash 😂 (of course) you’ve got a fantastic bike there 👍🏻

I bought a scram 411 and I didn’t bother with a test ride as I researched the bike loads and it’s everything I thought it would be and more. The sales chap said they were going out of the door more than any other model in the show room and I can see why after having it for a month . First service done and a few extras added to make it a perfect machine. Phase 2 of the running in process is the next thing.

  • @thebingleywheeler

Hi Nicola yes the relays suffer from an excess of white grease for shipping purposes. This applies to the whole Royal Enfield range and can cause running/starting issues on some bikes. Also the relays aren’t the best quality so an upgrade at the same time as cleaning out the excess grease is also a good idea. If you have a look at this video where I clean and replace the relays on all 3 of my Enfields you can see what needs to be done kzread.info/dash/bejne/iIFnxLeapau1lM4.html

I rode an XT500 to Portugal and back three times and once return to Greece in the '80s. All from just north of you, Skipton. I look back on that bike fondly. I like the look of the 411. It's a shame it doesn't have cross-spoke wheels, enabling tubeless tyres. I already have an air-cooled scrambler - Yamaha SCR950. A 411 would complement it nicely. The braking sounds like my SCR. Front and back together. Good review and nice to see the old area.

I currently have a Kawasaki versa 650 which has a detuned nija 650 engine. Other than passing, I don’t really use the available power from the engine. I live in west Tennessee and we have a deer over population here and you have to keep that in mind when riding through the back roads of Tennessee. I am seriously thinking about the scram 411 since I notice that I seldom ride over 60 MPH. I am approachging mid 60s and I am looking for a smaller simpler bike to ride. Of course you CAN ride a bike in ice and snow. I did in the 1950s on rutted ice. You let the bike go where it wants and just sort of guide it in the direction you want. it tends to go in a straight line anyway although it will jump around a bit. Pretty well keep your hands off the bars so the steering can jump around a bit.Of course you only go about 15 - 20 mph

Hi there BW, I just bought a Himi about 2 months and 2200 kms ago and am LOVING it. 100 mpg, comfortable riding position, enough power (especially as the engine has opened out now) and cheap to buy. I'm having the best time of my life on my Himi ... PS Re Running-in - When I bought my Himi I saw what is written in the handbook about speeds in gears, I tried it out and it didn't work for me. I kept it initially to max (and no labouring) 3000 rpm for 500 kms then 4000 to first service at 800 kms then gently easing it up to 2200 rpm and she gets a good work out.

It is not a Speed Demon! I have the first California Scram 411 sold. I immediately did my pipe and DNA Air Filter upgrade. My pipe is the Delkevik 8” Carbon Fiber model. Swapped the battery for a AntiGravity Lithium I have removed the side badges and the steel pipe they are on. Still have the turn signals to switch to EDS Tuff Lites and get rid of the rear lower plastic fender piece. As of now I took my bike across a scale and I’m at 379 pounds with a half a tank of fuel. I have been at 80mph on the freeway and cruise very comfortably at 65-70mph This bike is no speed demon in any way. It is a cruiser and nimble in traffic and lane splitting as we can do here. A total blast off road. Love the thumper sound of my pipe. My wife and I have several bikes each. 3 Harley’s, a Suzuki and a Honda XL600 Enduro The Scram was purchased to go on the front rack of my truck when towing our RV. Perfect for running to town or sight seeing. For the price it’s worth it. If I was really wanting a all around bike I would definitely buy something bigger with more power. I have seen cylinder bore kits and cams coming out which would be a huge improvement Other than that it’s a great little bike and is great starting when freezing

I was torn between the Classic 350 and Scram with the intention of riding through winter. Both seem to tick all the boxes you mention, except the Classic's more vulnerable finish. That said, I went with the 350 and, surprisingly, I've never had a bike that keeps itself so clean and is so easy to wash. I'll give it a dose of ACF50 and if it does develop a patina then so be it. Do you find the Scram's mudguards allow more dirt and spray to get on the bike and you than on the Classic? Enjoyed the "homecoming" BTW.

But for an everyday do it all bike " my only bike " it became tiresome after a few months, basically down to the engine power. It copes fine in town obviously but get it out on the open road it shows its lack of pace . Overtaking needs to be planned ! Dual carriage ways etc 60 mph is your lot really as any faster the engine is revving its tits off. If it had the 650 twin engine it would be bang on the money. Iam considering a 650 interceptor .

Love my Himmy! so I don't need a Scram , CEAT tyres are fine, as they are in fact Pirelli's Indian subsidiary, much like Bybre and Brembo.Everyone loves the Scram, all those that have ridden it, and those just looking,Enfield did it again! Cheers, DINO.

What is your opinion on hard luggage on the Scram 411 vs soft clip-on bags? Is it a weather concern?

Hi I just think that the semi rigid Givi looks better than the metal RE cases (which in black don’t have the best paint finish). The semi rigid luggage comes with waterproof covers so no weather worries 👍🏻

@@thebingleywheeler thank you so much. I'll pick them up. No I am in the US. Based on the videos I've seen the skyline color is available in the US, Australia, India. It's a shame because I think it's an absolutely gorgeous color. The silver spirit is definitely a close second

I'm in the USA. These British motorcycle videos disturb me as you guys drive on the wrong side fo the street. That said, I'm thinking of getting a RE. Here in Nebraska, we get horrible weather, from scorching 100+ F heat to -20 F and blizzards to tornados. I currently have a Yamaha XV1100 Virago and a Suzuki VS800 Intruder. Thinking of selling one or both and getting a new RE. I just wish they made a model with a shaft drive. Chain drives suck. I hate everything about them.

Believe me life here is far worse regardless of the side of the road….you have vast open spaces to explore…. Here wealthy land owners just tell you to get off their land….especially if you’re on a motorcycle
