Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Essential Mods - Handlebar Tidy up plus

Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 Essential Mods - Handlebar Tidy up plus: The new Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 lends itself to a bit of modification and is one of the reasons I bought the bike. Even though I'm hugely lacking in the skill department I do like a tinker in the garage! In this video I do some basic tidying up of the bike including changing out the wing mirrors and levers....thanks to Tec Bike parts for supplying the kit!

I do always think that you need to invest in a decent tool set. At the very least, a Ratchet. I’ve had the halfords advanced tool set for over 6 years now and it’s invaluable and comes with a lifetime warranty.Combine that with a decent set of handled Allen keys, torque wrench and other bits, and you’ll be laughing and no longer struggling. Keep up the good work dude!

Great. Ideal watching this at home, what with the bad weather and me recovering from a cold. True what a weight some of those parts are. I just bought a second hand 2019 CB500X as a second bike (to my T120) and took the pannier racks off, which weigh a helluva lot, but adding a centre stand, which also weighs a lot. Those bar end mirrors look great. Well done and thanks.

Morning Andy, I use the TEC bar end mirrors and leavers on my 865 Bonnie. I also use their rear brake & gear leavers, plus rider and pillion foot pegs. It made a huge difference to the look of the bike, but the trouble with ‘modding’ is thats it’s quite addictive....I now have a large storage box full of OG parts that I’ve replaced and my Bonnie looks drop-dead-gorgeous! Looking forward to seeing where your ‘slippery slope’ takes you.. All the best, Andy 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿

A good little tip which does use the grab handle, is buying a bicycle rear light from Wilkinson that flashes alternately or just on, so if you are unlucky enough to break down or get a puncture in a unlit road you will still have rear lights, as it does not seem possible to have lights with ign switched off (Wilco light fits in mins to grab bar)

Two things for me in this install I would have done differently. I would always cover the tank when working on the handle bar area. Sometimes, I even cover the front fender as I have made expensive mistakes as the spanner or socket drops free and onto the metal painted bits. Also, you could have pulled out the factory bar weights by attaching the factory screw back into the weights, then using a large pair of pliers or crescent wrench to provide a solid piece to hammer against using a dead blow mallet against to drive out the screw/bar weights. Then use the new bar end/weight as it was designed. Good video though, with good content. Looking forward to see your transformation of the RE. Cheers from Arkansas.

Yay, Enfield content! To each their own and all, but I (IMHO and no offence meant of course) think that these CNC type levers and bar end mirrors are not really in keeping with the retro look (and im biased anyways as I hate bar end mirrors!) of the bike. But hey, vivre la difference. Good effort regardless, considering you dont seem to have any tools!

A good habit to get in to is, every time you take a bolt out or nut off add some anti seize grease before you put it back. (Or if it was threadlocked, replace the threadlock.). It makes life so much easier further down the line. I'm interested to see how the scamblerize project evolves as I was contemplating one of the new Norton Rangers but can't really justify the cost of one as a second bike. This may be a more wallet friendly option.

Looks a wedge better. On my Moto Guzzi V7 I was able to turn the mirror mounts upside down to hide the holes, but it doesn't look like you can on the RE

Those bolts for that rear bar could be used to secure saddlebag mounts, maybe.

Hi TMF that would be a cracking idea to scramblerize it. A good pair of nobbly tyres, 2 into 1 titanium exhaust, beak front mudguard ( GS style), tidy up the rear end with a GS style number plate, matt black the engine, paint the wheels black, sump guard, engine bars, you could even get Del Boy involved foand Sealey for some tools

The interceptor is the perfect scrambler base, I plan to do the same . The seat is gone the day I buy mine.

It does look better without the mirrors. It would look sick with out the turn signals also but i guess those are needed items. Its a sweet bike for under 6gs US brand new i might just have to buy one.

Looks heaps better minus the grab handle!👍🏼 Just an aside TMF in getting that end weight off with said “dubious” Allen key. Just a tap on the drive end(?), not the leverage end of the key as you “try” to undo it sometimes can be enough to loosen it. But yeah done the bloody same with inferior tools! Like the adjustable levers too, & bar end mirrors. Looks trick😎

Bar end mirrors. The big pain in the butt to put on almost always. Would recommend a tiny under the bar mirror rather then nothing.

Hello TMF loving the MODS.. the bar ends worked out ok.. But what may make your life easier later is the fact that if you had simply wound back the allen head screw with the key and tapped the allen screw back into the bar it would have pushed the wedge shaped cone inside the bar end, which causes the aluminium bit that you were thinking of filing down to expand and grip the inside of the bar then the whole thing would pull out. I'm sure that if you look at the one that came with the mirror you will get the idea. But they'd on as it is and they won't go anywhere. I'm sure that many people will inform you about this but it is one in the memory bank for later..Best regards

Good evening Mr Flyer. I'm looking at the TEC bar end mirrors for my Inter too. They have a good vid that might help you eliminate that gap and make them more rigid. Looking at the bar end weight and the end of the handlebar they are half-recessed so that they fit together without spinning. TEC recommend that you get busy with a file for a minute or two and do this to the part they supply. That will close up the gap and help stop anything moving. Good vid though. When will we see you actually riding it, and when will you tell us about those aftermarket pipes (did I miss it?). Keep up the good work.

Nice videoTMF, i would say that not grinding the lugs off, where the sissy bars go, is a better idea, you might want to put them back on if you sell the bike at some stage.

TEC Bike parts do produce quality accessories. Good to see your honesty in letting the viewers know that the accessories were given to you, as there are a few motorcycle KZreadrs I use to watch who have now turned into Social Media Influencers and allowing viewers to think they have been out and bought parts, accessories, tools etc. No doubt the lure of money and the thought giving up the mundane day job has turned them into snake oil salesmen. Surely KZread should make it compulsory that youtubers declare free gifts, I follow a channel called Double Boost and when John does a reviews he is always dead honest and declares that the tool was given to him and when people use the affiliate links he is paid a small commission Great new website ------------------------------

That insert comes out. If you screw the bolt back in a few turns and then tap it; you'll break the taper that is holding the (two piece) insert in and you can draw the piece out with the bolt. There should be new inserts with the bar end mirror set.
