Royal Enfield Classic 500 Tribute Black. Some thoughts about it. Walk around, comments, start up.

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

Some of my thoughts about the now discontinued Royal Enfield Classic 500. This particular example is one of the 1000 Tribute Black C5 made to mark the production end of the UCE500 OHV "Bullets". Includes start-up and engine sound. Stock exhaust.

Well thanks. More like a summary of why I bought a time machine. There are many things I left out, but I might add that now that they all but killed ICE, and the future is obviously electric, what can be more beautiful than putting the first miles on the oldest new bike you can get?...

I own a 2018 Classic 500. It´s a wonderful machine. I rode all kind of bikes for 50 years, i can say that it is one of the most pleasing ones, and i don't intent to swap it. In the worst case i would buy a second bike, as one of those you refered.

The ideal number of motorcycles is always the ones you currently have +1...That being said this one is so special I have no intention of ever parting with it, would sell all my other bikes first. Each one is special in its own way, but the classic 500 is like going back in time in an English showroom in 1961 and buying a bike brand new. Now tell me how can you get that experience nowadays when progress and chasing horsepower has got people admiring plastic-clad transformers?...I much prefer newly built relics of a bygone era, tbh.

@@poatemaine6200 Me too man! I have had a RE Pegasus Classic 500 since 2018 and it’s my 22nd two wheeled motorised vehicle in my 74 years. My other bike is a 1983 Harley Ironhead, which I love to bits, but if it’s for a long run, like across the 🇬🇧 channel to France and Spain, I’ll use the Enfield. Same bike here! There is something special about it...just makes me grin every time. My BMW 1200RT serves as "get there" duty but when I just need to feel the breeze and return to my early riding days, the Classic gets the call every time. Got rid of the ponderous exhaust silencer and knocked off several pounds and the bike breathes better. Short bottle punjab with a baffle and some glass matt sounds great. Full US Military markings have folks wondering if it's a 1940's courier motorcycle. Always makes for great convos.

@@poatemaine6200 If by "past 40" you mean "over 40 years old", from the yonder side of 60, I couldn't agree more. Now an early-retiree, I am most DEFINITELY in no damned rush. Hell, I'll pull over on the riverside road I particularly enjoy thumping along to help turtles cross it safely. Even when younger my riding style was described as "like following Grandma to the doctor's". Age hasn't made me any rasher as a risk taker. On the other hand, if by "40" you meant velocity, as in miles per hour, while my elderly Bullet can handily scoot well up into the high 60s or even low 70s with no great fuss, I indeed generally like to burble along sedately in the 40s or 50s dodging the butterflies. Having previously owned a couple of MUCH quicker Norton 750 twins (I still have an old Desert Racer N15CS), I suspect my old Bullet's far more "relaxed" gait is probably helping keep me alive. It's hard to really "push the edge" astride a full-blown engineering fossil and what is basically your Grandaddy's bike. It has its own primitive and elemental, almost "equestrian" virtues though. It just oozes "character ".

@@BilgemasterBill heh I meant over 40 years old. My previous bike was a 140 hp GSXR. While fun in its own right, it is useless. The Enfield is more like meditation, there is a much closer connection to everything around you. Plus, I love the clickity-clackety of the rods, cams and valves. Also, I love the fact that it doesn't push me for a destination.

I kind of see why, given that the new models have nothing to do with the old OHV. But I would honestly be just as happy with a second hand one with 3000 plus on the odo. These bikes are seldom used to their potential, people get bored and they end up as garage decoration. I bought this bike not just because looks, but for the authenticity with a touch of modern conveniences such as abs and FI. Of course you can buy an old bike but in my experience 60 year old bikes are very inconvenient to own and especially use.

Your model is probably better if it has carburetor. I am not of fan of EFI and 20 sensors on a single cylinder... If I had a choice it would have been carbureted, as if you understand how to tune them they are much better especially where I live, flat and nice weather year round.

I agree, that's one of the reasons I went for the last 500 ohv. It was clear that the new 350s with the modern ohc architecture, while more performant and reliable (allegedly) were going to lose the last traits of classic singles. But that is a nuance you catch much easier if you had close contact with old thumpers at some point before trying these enfields. The new 350 sounds good, looks good, but the feeling just aint right... Just like in a dream, you can tell something is amiss.

mine came without. I suspect the dealer thought they were packaging lol. Sounds good to me and the airflow is probably better. From what I hear they dry up sometimes and fall on their own. I wouldn´t sweat it. Keeping the stock exhaust on these last models is far more important (unless you map the fueling).

The RE Classic 500 was discontinued in 2020 as the engine could not pass the European emission laws (which are getting stricter year over year). Thus you can only find them used, and prices for a nice used one are higher than what they were then for a new bike. I own a Classic 500 and love it, truly unique bike, people stop beside me on a red light, turn down their side window to compliment the bike!
