I was in the same situation (bought the DNA filter before they advised getting the different cover) so i gave this a try. And thank you for the video, what an amazing amount of difference this made. Without a doubt the best improvement i made to my Classic Reborn so far. 👍👍👍

I literally just went out and did this to my classic 350.Took an inch and a half holesaw to start with then decided to trim off the rest. Took me about 10 minutes. Started up the bike and definitely a noticeable difference in sound. Let the bike run for 15 minutes before I took it for a ride. For me, a really big difference in acceleration. Before the bike was great, however, it just felt a little constipated. Doing this really helped. Full disclosure, last week I did my own valve adjustment and installed a fuel X lite at the same time. I’m sure that made a difference. Cheers from the Pacific Northwest!

Thanks for sharing. Yes I agree that the air loosen up that constipation and helps the accellration some. Havent tried the fuel X yet but Ive heard that it gives a smoother ride. I just got the Classic back from the service shop and got valve adjustment there. Next time I will do it myself because I walked out of there almost without an arm and a leg 😅

Yes, indeed! I won’t name names but my local dealer service department is a joke. 127 miles in after buying the bike and my speedo went tits up. Took the bike in and spent four hours waiting for them to tell me that the speedo went tits up. After that it was like pulling teeth to get in contact with them where they finally told me it would take 2 to 3 months to get a speedo. I ended up going to Hitchcock‘s and bought one from them and put it in my self in less than 10 minutes. I’m sure there’s some good service departments out there. Anyways, valve adjustment is easy and straightforward. Still fantasizing about a classic 650 coming out in 2024! Cheers from the Pacific Northwest!

@@norwayrider6339 As I have fitted the DNA filter and Fuelx Lite at the same time I can't compare them separately. But next week I am getting the bike dyno tested for Horsepower and torque curves. I will announce the results in a video.

This modification would also increase air-flow to a standard (OEM) filter. And should do the same for an RE Meteor. I might use a small hacksaw and finish with sandpaper.

Did you leave the larger outer cover on or off when you changed your filter. I bought the filter and the open cover, but there is another cover over that which holds the RE booklet. Did you leave that cover off?

I put that back on. Handy for storing manual and registration papers.

DNA Air Filter "Cover" is better more air intake and it seals more all around. especially if you want to use the normal air filter again you have a problem, dna filter is good for clean streets when it gets dusty the normal one is better.

Thank you for the comment, and I agree. However, the premise of my video is that if you do not have the DNA cover or want to spend the cash, this is a way of doing it. I think the difference to the DNA cover is minimal. I personally would not bother with changing the filter depending on riding conditions. There is also the document cover on top of the air filter and on top of that, the penel cover. If dust seeps through there, in my opinion, the stock paper filter won’t do much difference. Cleaning the air filter though, is important. Will try and find substitute to the DNA service kit.

Is it worth considering that the improvement can be achieved even with the stock filter, by just punching a big hole in the intake spout?

Yes some owners are keeping the original filter and either modifying the cover like so, or buying the DNA cover. I plan to buy both the filter and cover.

Thank you. Good question. I have not measured the consumption or compared to before the mod. Im guessing it is minimal since the consumption on the Classic 350 is very low. I ride every day til and from work and rearly refill. I might try to test out on a long trip next spring.

this seems like a safer choice for dusty environments like where I am from.

the air filter 110 euro , what about fuel, contsuntion ? 5 more miles Mph at max speed ? acceleration , 5 sec less ?

Hi, the airfilter alone is about 60 euro + tax and shipping so I dont know if it will be worth it just for reduced fuel consumption (if any). It wont affect max speed at all. Acceleration and respons feels better and quicker but has yet to be meassured. A side by side ride comparison would be great but I dont have that kind of resources at this time.

Hi Marcc, I have only made this performance mod and I realy feel there is som gain in all gear levels but most in the torque and high speeds. For me it was worth it.

@@MarccTec i just did it this afternoon and the result is more than noticeable. Removed the plastic plate before the filter that can hold your papers too (got pannier bags anyway)

Guys, I did the mod. And I made an extra that increased the hole size. Great mod for the cost of zero bucks. Torque gain in low rpm and power gain in high rpm are noticeable. Thank you very much for this video. I did no adapt time in idle, just installed the part and put the tires on the street, zero issues, just happiness! And yes, factory air filter.

Im still in 2 minds as if the DNA air filter claim actually allows more air than the standard filter . £49 DNA filter £16 for a standard. Tried the standard filter but took off the cover and fitted stainless steel tabs using the 3 cover screws to hold it in . It made a huge difference in perfomance, IMHO I dont think the DNA filter would work any better

You might be right, I can’t tell for sure. I should have had runs with each of the changes with sound and speed measurements. It’s so long ago now that I’ve grown used to the bikes sound and feel 😊 The DNA filter is washable though, if that counts😊

Most authentic part of this video is your use of a Morakniv. It seems like everyone in Nordic countries has them as an essential tool, much like the French and their Opinel. You could clean up your cutting with some fine grade sandpaper to smooth the plastic and remove the burrs.

Thank you for commenting. Yes the morakniv is versatile and costs almost nothing and sells in every builder shop. When I grew up, tollekniv was the thing though. I was also thinking smoothing out with sandpaper but couldnt find some fine enough at the time of the shooting. Maybe I will make a short with that next.

I thought so as well but then it will damage the inside of the tube. I don’t know if that will matter though.

I'm wondering why more RE owners don't do this. If you buy the modified cover, then you are stuck with an extra cover that you will never use. BTW, a Dremel and a bench vice would make this so much easier.

I agree. Simple but fairly easy though. Dremel is that type of tool that you don’t know you need before you need it. So I never get around buying one😊

@@norwayrider6339 Just an update. I modified my Enfield's air filter cover and I ended up using a hacksaw like you did. The Dremmel couldn't quite complete the task but the bench vice did help considerably.
