Royal Enfield 350 Classic. Is it any good as a daily rider?

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this episode, we look at the Royal Enfield 350 Classic in a review that attempts to answer the question. Can it be used as a daily rider, or a weekend poodler?

I commute around a 1000 miles a month on mine. Apart from having to keep on top of the aluminium on the engine covers and fork legs to stop corrosion. It’s a perfect bike! Talking to my Enfield mechanic. He said it’s restricted to 80% power via ECU, so you can full throttle it in 5th on the faster roads and it won’t harm the engine. Basically it’ll do 70mph all day long.

I live in southern Austria , where most of the roads are twisty , and the straight bits are 100 kph , so my chrome/ bronze 350 is just perfect for chilled , relaxed riding

I ride two-up most of the time. Being torquey it doesn't really make much difference even with a full-sized Fiancé on the back. Love it 👍

It’s a hopeless daily rider! Early Spring mornings as the daylight starts to stretch out it’ll distract you from the commute, take you away to fun places and you’ll get absolutely nothing done. It’s a wonderful, joyous means to explore, to just bimble, or to follow one of Simon Weir’s rides. I absolutely love mine.

Great reply John lol . Picking up mine this week ( Red and Chrome) But as I'm retired all I do is ride for fun and only in fair weather . Going from a Kawasaki 900 to the Enfield is a big down size but I've found modern style bikes spectacularly high spec and performance but totally souless . The Enfield has character and soul buy the bucket full

The new Enfield 350s are truly excellent. Nice that you have a family of Enfields to compare with. I am a downsized 65 year old riding a Meteor. The seat height and tank size attracted me, but I am really not sold on the forward footrests. Perhaps there is a Hunter coming. I live in the German countryside and it really does everything I need. Don't mind a couple of stops on the autobahn but with 75% of traffic driving at 60mph because of the horrendous fuel prices, it's not a problem. You were rightly very complimentary of the handling, that comes from 50 years of Harris Racing's chassis development. The top speed is electronically governed, check out Hichcocks dyno test video. You can ride these things all day against the stop without harm. But why. Great review.

I'm considering the Hunter for daily commuting aswell, in my late 30's, here in South Bohemia. I think the seating position is something of a cultural habit actually...the Birts seem quite used to forward pegs, the Americans take that to extreme with cruisers, while here in continental Europe, we prefer the more upright position.

Like wise Tim. I'm 69 and want to down size from my Vulcan VN900 which is a decidedly foot forward cruising bike. Even with 900cc I rarely go above 65mph but at 650lbs its not a great town bike. So the little 350 classic burbling along at 60 max is fine. And lets be honest the chrome model just looks fabulous. Brings back a love affair i had with my old Matchless G12 . Chrome , burnished alloy and pinstrips ( gorgeous) Fun before performance is what im after and the RE will fit the bill, as my wifes little Mazda MX5 fits hers.

Hi thanks for your detailed review 👍😁 Along with other folks comments who comment on my films and vise versa to add to your main question; definitely yes to daily riding as an everyday bike 👍 10 months near daily use as my only transport it starts every time, and apart from some degreasing some over greased electrical connections which were upsetting the speedo and engine management light going on there has been nothing gone wrong, absolutely nothing has gone wrong with this bike in 5000 miles, and after the winter zero rust on original parts - spokes need pre winter treatment being non stainless but this is a 4K bike!, my van engine replacement bill is going to be way more than this brilliant bike! Check my real world daily use channel of this bike if your not convinced, The U.K. is obsessed with bhp and top speed, use your mobile phone when out riding and look at the real average speed you actually ride and that’s the secret of the Classic 350, it has a bigger character 😁👍 Cheers Bruce

My ‘23 Halcyon green classic is an enjoyable ride; used appropriately it’s been a great bike. Seems to be bulletproof in build quality too. Thumping along at 50mph in the rolling farmlands of N IL and S WI has been a real pleasure. Money well spent.

I've been commuting on mine since last year. My route covers basically all types, Dual carridge, A & B road, Urban and even a chunk of country roads to get into Birmingham. It handles everything with exceptional ease, its nimble enough to get through traffic and the pleasant amount of low end torque gives you enough grunt to handle the vast majority of situations. The only situations where I've found limitations and perhaps just abit more rider caution is dual carridgeways and motorways (I Have once taken it on the M42 and M6 with no issues it was just boring) but if you want to overtake or join a carridge you do need to think about it a bit more to be safe. Otherwise its a completely brilliant machine thats fun to ride and great to look at.

It is remarkable just what a great riding experience this bike delivers. It's an entirely modern, refined and capable bike that retains the character of older Enfields, but without the foibles. It's precisely the right amount of performance so that you can use every bit of it. One thing, the speedo flatters to deceive, reading a good 10% over, but it doesn't _matter,_ because you'll have a blast anyway.

I'm late '50's & will probably have one as my next bike (downsizing from V-Strom 650). The Hunter also looks great with it's moden styling, personally I don't like the meteor at all but RE really do have something for everybody don't they...

Useful review for me as I’m thinking about one of these as a runabout & commuter but at 6’3” I was worried it would look like a monkey bike and not go very fast. Of all the reviews I’ve seen then the answer appears to be yes it might be undersized and a bit slow but it’s loads of fun. Also useful input from Patrick as my daughter will no doubt be climbing on the back at some point so it’s good to know this one won’t hurt her bladder 😂

I DO wish they'd kept the kickstarter as well as having the electric, as on earlier Enfields. Instances arise where the battery is too weak to start the bike, particularly in cold weather, and you get stranded. I have a Ural sidecar rig, one of the few bikes still having both kick and electric, and it's really nice to have the kickstarter as a backup. A couple of years ago my electric starter crapped out and for about six months I just used the kickstarter until I finally got it fixed. My bike usually starts second kick every time. That being said, I really like this Enfield 350.

Had mine 7 months. Used for daily commute if you want some decent response out the engine buy a decat pipe and DNA air filter which certainly improves power up hills which it would otherwise struggle with. Some parts starting to rust so prepare them for winter or change to stainless steel. It's a great ride !

Great review mate as always If I wanted a RE work bike Id go for the meteor as its way easier to keep clean . Apart from without tank cheeks I can see the paint (specially the metalic) suffering from abrasion The Classic is way nicer to look at but chrome and burnished alloy casing take more looking after. However im retired and fair weather rider so the classic would be my choice purely as it looks fabulous.

Well now you've got me questioning my choices. I'm just about to take my CBT and had my heart set on the Hunter in Rebel Blue next winter (a wise man once told me, "always by a bike in the winter") after I get my full licence. The looks, the price, the fact it has the same engine as it's sisters' but is somehow more perkier and yet smoother than they are just does it for me. The Classic, while looking nice, doesn't. But the Classic in that configuration? Something is stirring in my loins. It's just rust on those steel spokes compared to the alloy mag wheels of the Hunter holding me back. Still that's nothing some masking tape on the brake discs and ACF50 can't fix. Then you top off a great video by telling us you're reviewing the Keeway RK V125C in your next video. The bike I plan as my first. I'm so looking forward to that, I hit the notification bell

Of course she's a daily ride! In fact I'd leave larger bikes for weekend longer hikes. Now I've got my Classic350, I can look at my leisure for a decently priced Bonnie 110/120/Bobber. My 350 now has the DNA breather and decat pipe; that gives a throatier note, definitely more torque and a great old-time pop and crack when I'm engine breaking down steep declines. She's a keeper 👍

Although I enjoyed your review as I already mentioned. I ride a Honda SH 300i it’s a twist a go scooter with 17” ish wheels This is the ultimate every day bike with protection from British weather for your legs and a screen for for your upper body together with heated grips and bar muffs enabled my trip to Aberdeen and back every month 310 mile one way in relative comfort regardless of the weather for years. And always a 80mpg. And it wizzes through traffic and will sit all day at 70 mph and will readily ramp up to an easy 80 for a quick overtake before settling back to the 70 mph cruise mode. Having said all that I am going to get a Enfield for my sunny days riding in the dales it just looked bliss along them bumpy country roads.

I found it is a different kind of riding, I always was intrigued by the B5 but poo pooed the idea of owning one because of the 27 horses and pondering looks although the overall look has always been extremely pleasing. All I wanted was speed, power and sharp handling which I have enjoyed for many years at sensible levels. However KZread reviews and main players on here for the Royal Enfield convinced me to buy a B5 to give it a chance… In short I absolutely love my it. My B5 I love everything about it and if honest I would have bought one years ago. It’s characteristics make it such a pleasure to ride and just relax taking in the surroundings is therapeutic. I must be honest and say I do miss sports performance sometimes and fancy a good ole buzz however a few miles on the Bullet sucks me back into the chilled side and realise that speed is not everything 😂 Long may the Bullet live on in any engine size.

Having owned the classic 350 here in the US for several months, I have to say the hard rev/speed limiter at 72mph is a drawback. The bike could go faster, it could handle the interstate at 75mph. You'll feel a discomforting stutter as the bikes pulls you back to 72 on a downhill. I would recommend the monkey which gets twice as much efficiency but no limiter, or the continental/int which can do all speeds at about same efficiency

Have to disagree about bar ends, had some fitted to my interceptor and they had quite a big blind spot, so changed back to regular ones, pity as they looked great, it's a each to their own thing.

I test rode a 350 it was the most comfortable bike I have ever ridden. Better than my 500 classic, better even than my 650 Int. Better than my Vespas or my Piaggios. Better than a Honda Pacific Coast or my Halcyon 450, Better than a Suzuki Boulevard. Here in the States freeway riding is an inevitability. I had it up to 60mph... and I was left wanting. Wanting just 2 more HP. Perhaps some simple add-ons will make it a more viable option.

There’s a point of confusion in many motorcycle videos. When you mention your inseam, are you talking about the length of your pant legs, or the distance from crotch to ground with your shoes on? Thank you in advance.

Was in with my himalayan today and had the scram 411 on loan. Looked at the 350 and 650s. Royal enfield are lovely looking simple bikes. Really enjoyable machines to ride. 350 is lovely but I feel having the himalayan if I got another enfield it would be the 650 just for the extra pole when going longer distance.

I'd be very tempted to daily a 350classic. Do you think it's artificially limited to 70? Certainly gives the impression of being capable of a bit more. Are cast wheels an option? Tubed tyres don't help for an easy diy puncture fix.

@Motors for the Masses Your information does not suprise me, they want who they want. Well, you tried, and they are at least aware if your intentions and area coverage should circumstances change. Perhaps advertise your website more on the videos, may lead to more parts or unit sales, at least views. Consider a rebrand or building development but of course this would be costly. Otherwise, keep doing what you're doing - many appreciate your charisma and efforts.
