this is why charles and anne are so close, their early years their parents were sent on tour six months at a time, their parents missed birthdays christmas and all the early development of those two eldest children. When the duke of edinburgh was interviewed about it by terry wogan there was tears in his eyes talking about how much they missed the children, how after one tour charles didn't recognise him at first it had been so long

You can clearly see that the Queen Mother and probably Princess Margaret were the ones that gave Charles and Anne a sense of family while their parents were away. How much things could turn out differently if Edward VIII didn't abdicate, if George VI was healthier and Elizabeth were given enough time to have an actual family life, we'll never know. I guess they 'get on with it'.

King Charles and Princess Anne here remind me so much of Prince George and Princess Charlotte. I can only imagine an outing like this with the entire family including their Grandmother Diana.
