    @@13dg I'm a former crew member, and was onboard when it happened, Let me correct you on that. after a few hours of our very own deck crew trying to contain the fire, it was declared fire out by past 12 PM. Nobody left the ship may it be guest or crew as the ship is still seaworthy after the fire took place that morning. The company have just decided to get what we called the riding crew or the contractors to join us onboard, to fix the damage while the ship continues its voyage

    +Beverley Powell (BAP1) all passengers are told that the general emergency alarm means go to muster / assembly stations, unless an announcement is made prior saying otherwise (ex crew emergency drill). All passengers do a muster drill before departing and their muster station number is on their key card.

    With 12 yrs onboard exp. my advice is: anytime you see an anything similar you are going to get to you room for your lifevest (and warm clothing, no open shoes, nothing sharp, no high heels) asap and get closer to you muster station. Be ready to be mustered. Always follow crewmembers instruction bc from that moment You depend on Them. THEY know the drill, you dont. You peeps watching the fire, sunbathing while the ship on fire... come on... you are (supposedly) adult for gods sake... act like one. As far as RCI is concerned: RCI is safe, very safe.

    Exactly. Good advise Sailor Popy. If I would have seen this on the ship, I would have immediately gone to my room, grabbed my important stuff, and been ready to head to my muster station. The crew will basically down play any situation to avoid panic but use some common sense. If you see smoke like this, there is a fire you need to be ready to abandon ship ASAP.

  • @sail0rp0peye

    @sail0rp0peye

    8 жыл бұрын

    +Gesse Jilmore Your claim is plainly wrong. Here is why. Guests never hear the first alarm which is only sounded in the crew area and depending on the code word used (alfa, bravo, charlie etc) it only involves a smaller response team (eg.Alfa Team), specialised to tackle that particular situation, and NOT the whole crew. A response team is then deployed literally in a matter of just seconds. Consequently there was no way for you to have heard the first alarm. The seven-short-one-long blast you heard first at 01:18 (General Emegency Alarm) was actually the second blast but the first you as guest heard. Should the situation have escalated even more, you would have heard one-long-blast (Embarkation Signal), meaning time to embark the life boats and leave ship. I hope that helps.

    Was on that ship when it was maybe a year old, and at the time, the largest cruise ship in the world. That was back in 2007. That was my first RC cruise. Really enjoyed it. Also remember the day the crew had their practice drill. We were all eating breakfast (some had already gone on shore) when the alarm went off. Nobody told us what was going on though. Everyone just kind of looked around a little confused.

    People are just casually slowly strolling along even after the alarm. Hello, quickly get to your cabin and get your passport and essentials and family together and meet at your rally point. There is a fire on a ship. When you see thick black smoke and flames, don't wait for the alarm or continue lounging, chatting and laughing before realizing that it is actually happening.

    There's dangers with what you are suggesting. It could cause a stampede with people running one on top of another! Keeping calm but acting sensibly (life jackets etc) is the best way to deal with such situation. Panic moves are as dangerous as the fire itself.

    If this had been a Carnival ship it would be breaking news, no one knows about this or the other fire last year on RCL that had passengers in life jackets at their Muster stations for 6 hours

    wcare05 It's because Carnival is known for its disregard for safety on all its vessels, Carnival is solely a money making cruise company, Royal Caribbean on the other hand has a safety-first mentality and is focused on the guest experience. RCL is far better than Carnival in the sense that it delivers a safe, enjoyable experience to all on-board.

    Why? I was on this cruise and we weren't far from the dock in Jamaica. The fire was put out quickly and the rest of the cruise went on without any problems. The fire started in the engine room and traveled up an exhaust shaft, that's the flames you see at the top. The fire suppression system extinguished the fire in the engine room and crew extinguished the remaining flames and hotspots from above. The alarm was to get everyone accounted for and we evacuated from the dock. Very few people panicked because we were at shore.

    Ships tend not to have a dedicated fire alarm, the manual switches and smoke detectors alert the bridge, and someone on the bridge sounds the general alarm if required

    You know what scares me the most about cruising ,,it's this fire. I don't ever want to get in those life boats I've seen video of them falling. Also you have to count on a crew member actually showing up to lower it. In an emergency they might not

    That actually happened to the Harmony of the Seas (I think that's their newest ship) in France during a crew drill.
