Few things 1)your friends are either not Moroccans or they lied to you. In fact as Moroccans we rather say that we are Africans than Arabs (which we are not) I like to monkey around a lot so I poke fun at my Afro American friends by telling them that I have more “African blood” than them (a way to say I am more African than them 😂) 2) Moroccan planes were always well kept and we do have some of the best pilots in the world. 3) service in the other hand was always horrible but has extremely improved for the last few years and I am glad you were happy with it. I hope you have enjoyed your stay in Morocco and please come back soon and more often 🙏

I spent two very happy years living in Morocco & have since then visited it a few times, I like the place and the people - and of course the food and the very varied scenery. I ‘ve flown on RAM a few times and think it overall pretty decent, I also lived for a number of years in France & have visited many times - RAM holds up pretty well against Air France, for example, although the aircraft do tend to be a bit older, but as you found decently cared for and the friendly service is a definite plus. Looking forward to your 787 review now. PS/ I’ve always thought of Moroccans as North Africans or Maghrebins, not really as Africans as such, and I don’t really think most Moroccans think of themselves that way either, although of course the country is a member of the OAU/AU.

Hi, Amazing work Josh! 👍🏻 I'm Moroccan and I'm proud to be African. You asked us if we take offense to being called Africans? Not really, well It depends because there are two main ethnic groups. In Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, One group is Arab ethnic with origin from the Arabian peninsula and Iraq from the middle east from centuries ago. While the other ethnic group is the (Amazigh) ethnic group, you know them as (the Berbers) they are the true native Africans. Native to North African Mediterranean basin Like me. (berbers are Mediterranean African Caucasoid ). To be precise. The Amazigh Berbers don't take offense if you called them Africans, because they are native Africans, But they would correct you by saying we are North Africans, not Africans because they look night and day different from all other Africans in the rest of the African continent. However, they would take more offense if you called them Arabs instead of Africans or North Africans. While the Arab ethics in the region however would often take offense if you call them Africans instead of Arabs because they naturally feel more connected to the middle east rather than the African continent because they originated from ME 500 to 1000 years ago that's why. I'm an Amazigh Berber African female native to North Africa and I feel connected more to Africa by far, rather than the middle east, so I wouldn't mind at all that people call me African, and it also puts a smile on me even further if they call me for what I am and it is (north African) 👈This is me in my profile picture

As a North african I never heard anyone say they don't want to be called "African", Usually you'll hear people saying they don't want to be called "Arabs" (because ethnically we are not Arabs, we are Amazigh/Berbers but influenced by Islamic culture and arabic language) but everyone in North africa knows they are African, usually in normal dialect language the word "African" is used in most cases to refer to "subsaharan" African (in dialect we just reduce "subsaharan African" to "african"), And refer to ourselves as "North" African or "Maghrebi" (as in part of the Maghreb), but we all know we are African are never have I seen or heard anyone say they don't want to be called as such. We do not like though when people say we are "part of the middle east"

The people that have always lived in North Africa are Amazigh not arabs, arabs only came to share their religion and most of them left when the Amazigh controlled back the area, only a couple of Arab tribes settled in North Africa and none of them make up any significant percecntage of the population, unless there was an ethnic clainsing of entire region then you can't change the entire genome of the population, if you say North African are Arabs then you admit Arabs did what Europeans did to the native americans (killed everyone and replaced them) but that's not the case We north africans are before everything North Africans ethnics then citizens of our distinctive countries after that you can choose whatever identity you want

@@jonasw3945 Arabs came to North Africa before Islam. Berbers themselves are of many ethnicities and not only one as you may think. Also speaking Berber doesn’t make you Berber. Berbers didn’t grow from that soil. They are also migrants who came from different parts of the earth and settled in that area. @@adamwz248 Berbers are the indeginous people of North Africa, nobody came from nothing and at least we know berbers didn't come from the middle east. Arabs also didn't come from the soil neither did the Europeans, neither did the Chinese, so should we all call them Arabs ? What kind of logic is that ? What we know is that humanity came from Africa and we are Africans, the only indegenous people that ever lived in the Maghreb region are the berbers and so that's what we are, speaking berber doesn't make you berber, it's your ethnicity not your culture. Arabs didn't come to North Africa before Islam, you are very wrong, there is no recorded historical evidence of a mass immigration from the Arabs before that, Arabs came to spread islam and they did after killing a lot of berber who resisted the invasion, Arabs ruled of a some years and then got overthrown and left, some tribes like banu Hilal and others did immigrate to North Africa later on but that's it, a couple tribes can't possibly change the entire existing population. Or else we would all be calling France part of the Maghreb since the amount of people from the maghreb region that immigrated to France just during last century far faar exceeds the people that came from the middle east to North Africa since forever. How are you so suure you are Arab ? And what does the Prophet has anything to do with it ? If you are Sahraoui then you are from the sahraoui population that inhabited the African Sahara, it has literally nothing to do with the middle eastern arab region.

So, the Maghreb in general. The term was later applied to the whole continent. As for whether Mediterranean Africans are African, I've had Libyan friends who were European in appearance and one who looked pure sub Saharan African. Many Arab looking Egyptians have tightly curled African style hair.

A full hot meal service on a one hour flight is not 'insane' as you put it. Have experienced it in Economy on several occasions in years gone by. In fact I have even experienced it in Economy on Royal Air Maroc on a full Boeing 727 on Tanger - Madrid in the late 80's. It just requires sufficient cabin crew on board. Can see nothing 'insane' about a full meal service on the slightly over 2 hour flight from Cairo to Jeddah on a full service airline.

Ethnically, the people of those countries are Arabs.. The north African region is part of the Middle East which extends from Mauritania in north west Africa to Turkey in Asia.. The people of those nations prefer not to be called 'Africans' because they see it as a different culture, but geographically speaking, those countries are indeed African.
